"All done?" Walker asked, sticking his head out of the pickup truck's cab.

Clang! clang!

Jack patted his pockets; the brass-cased bullet casings rattled inside. After tossing all the bodies into the pickup, he ran back to collect all the spent bullet casings he and Hannah had fired, and even used twigs to clear away so obvious tire tracks.

Walker started the pickup, loaded with bodies and drugs, and drove into the depths of the desert. Jack followed closely behind in Ford F-150. A dozen minutes later, the two vehicles entered a small ravine.

A short while later, Jack reappeared in Ford F-150. Walker sat in the passenger seat, staring blankly at the blazing firelight behind them through the rearview mirror.

"Aren't we polluting the environnt a bit? The animals around here must be going wild tonight," Jack joked, seeing Walker's silence.

Walker forced a smile. "I just don't understand why Stan would do sothing like this. How many people like him are hiding within our ranks?"

"I thought nobody in Texas would bother with these 'whys.' They'd just find one and take them out." Jack joked.

"Liam always says I overthink things. Maybe it's because I've been away from ho for too long serving in the Navy? God knows, that kid is the most unconventional one in our family. He beca a lawyer through his own hard work, and now he's an assistant prosecutor."

"Even after he ca out, Mom and Dad didn't say much. God, they're so devout they go to church every week."

Walker complained about his brother, but his tone was full of pride.

Jack had never had siblings in either of his lives. Listening to him, a thought arose in his mind: maybe he should find a chance to see his family in this world, like taking a trip to Hawaii.

This thought was fleeting; soon the Ford F-150 returned to the scene of the accident, where Hannah was anxiously waiting outside.

"How's Emily?" Walker jumped out of the car, asking anxiously.

"She's fine, just unconscious, but the penetrating wound needs further treatnt." Hannah opened the car door, and the two children inside shielded their mother, their expressions filled with worry.

"We can't go to the hospital, the gunshot wound is too obvious. Let's go straight ho and see if we can find a doctor to stitch it up."

Although Walker was heartbroken for his wife, as an experienced ranger, he knew very well why Jack had instructed Hannah to wait here.

"Leave it to . You have Molly and Bonham prepare the dicine and sterilized needles and thread at ho."

Jack, ever the resourceful one, imdiately stepped in. He checked Emily's wound; Geri had done a good job, using gauze from the first-aid kit to stop the bleeding, and combined with his previous treatnt, the blood loss wasn't severe.

"By the way, where's Geri?" Jack looked around, not seeing the pretty bar owner.

Hannah chid in, "I told her to drive her own car ho first; our four cars would be too conspicuous."

Walker confidently assured her, "Geri is our best friend; she's trustworthy."

Jack, of course, wasn't worrying unnecessarily. After all, Geri was a trusted friend. He simply reminded her, "Rember to tell her to burn the blood-stained clothes."

Then Jack drove off in his Firebird. Although there were no caras on the roads in Texas, there was no guarantee that so highway patrol wouldn't co looking for trouble in the middle of the night.

That way, if he got caught, Jack would only get a ticket, which was much better than Walker's whereabouts being exposed. He could already foresee the uproar that would ensue when news of Stan's disappearance spread; the head of the Departnt of Public Safety was no ordinary officer.

Although he was confident that even if the wreckage of the gasoline-covered, burnt pickup truck and the bodies were found, even if forensic experts intervened, they wouldn't be able to find any clues leading to the Walker family, so people wouldn't care about evidence. Once that so-called "Northern Nation" discovered that the Walker family had been in the vicinity, endless trouble awaited them.

On the way back to the ranch, Jack was still thinking about whether there was anything he had overlooked, but the only place he could think of was Emily's supply points. However, the tire tracks nearby had been mostly cleared, and after a rain, nothing would be left, so there shouldn't be any need to worry about people associating it with that area.

If things really turned out that bad, he would just have to find a way to send all those gangsters from the 'Northern Nation' to et their maker.

The group returned to Walker's ranch at nearly 2 a.m. Molly and Bonham were already waiting at the villa gate with lanterns.

Emily, who had already woken up and had been enduring excruciating pain, was carried out of the car by Walker. Molly had already prepared a large table, laid out clean sheets and plastic sheets, to serve as a makeshift operating table.

"What kind of drink do you like?" Jack asked with a smile, holding a needle and thread in his hand.

Emily looked at her husband with so confusion.

"Whiskey, I'll get it." Walker reacted quickly, taking a whole bottle of whiskey from the liquor cabinet.

Under the combined effects of alcohol and exhaustion, Emily fell asleep again.

The so-called surgery was actually just simple wound suturing. Forensic doctors not only need to be able to dissect people, but they also need to be able to suture them.

"Don't worry, the stitches will be removed in three days, and you'll be fine in two weeks at most."

Hearing Jack's reassuring assurance, the Walker family finally relaxed.

....

The disappearance of soone did indeed, as everyone expected, stir up a storm, but this storm unexpectedly took a strange turn.

The enraged 'Northern Nation' gang leader, Bill, directly issued a kill order to Stan, the head of the Texas Departnt of Public Safety, because all signs pointed to this person disappearing into the desert with his woman and millions of dollars worth of goods.

Now, Walker is extrely busy, even neglecting his wife who is still recovering from her injuries. All of the less than 200 rangers in Texas have been mobilized.

They are leading the state police to search for their superior's whereabouts on one hand, and to crack down on the 'Northern Nation' gang, which has made a huge mistake and attempted to challenge the authority of the Texas police on the other.

The Texas police, united as one, even directly rejected FBI intervention, determined to salvage their dignity.

Upon receiving this "good news," Jack and Hannah had already set off again, driving their Firebird and equipped with the gear Walker had provided, entering Louisiana.
