Now reading: Chapter 214 214: 214-The couple(4) from Reborn: The Rookie Detective, a Action novel by jackrose.

However, the trace evidence tests are still inconclusive, as it's winter and typical traces like insects and pollen are scarce.

The cri lab is analyzing the soil residue in the tire treads, attempting to map the victim's vehicle route by comparing it to environntal samples, but this will take a long ti.

Based on the killer's modus operandi, the next attack should be within the next two or three days, and there may already be a victim, though no family has reported them missing.

Around noon, a group of local officers gathered at the police station office, munching on donuts brought back by Jack and Emily, while listening to the BAU team's case analysis and psychological profiling of the killer.

Several particularly astute individuals, aiming for detective positions, even prepared paper and pens, looking like obedient students — after all, not every small police station has the opportunity to receive assistance from an FBI psychological profiling team.

First, Hotchner: "The last couple killed, Jonathan and Rebecca Collins, according to their family, were vacationing near Reno last weekend and were heading ho, planning to find a place to stay along the way."

Reid traced a path on the map. "Following their route ho, they would likely pass through Sherwood, the area where the Corbins were last seen."

"After leaving Reno, they didn't use credit cards again, so unless they were carrying a large amount of cash, their accommodations certainly wouldn't be expensive."

"Given the killer's modus operandi, he needed ample privacy and a lot of private ti to commit the violence, which allows us to temporarily eliminate a large portion of the area."

Hearing this, Sheriff Bruner, the oldest and most experienced officer in the local police departnt, seed thoughtful.

"So, the killer we're looking for is likely soone working the night shift at a motel near Sherwood, sowhere remote on a mountain road?"

"And we think he's not too young, probably between 30 and 35 years old," Reid added.

"Why do you say that?" Sheriff Bruner asked, sowhat puzzled.

Reid explained, "Silently kidnapping a couple is a highly planned and difficult task. The killer needs ample ti to perfect his skills."

The sheriff seed to find the young man's deduction too hasty and slightly challenged, "Then he might be older."

"Don't worry about the killer's age; that's the hardest thing to predict. Dr. Reid is just making a probability-based deduction," Rossi interjected. "All the female victims were subjected to violence at the sa ti as the assault, indicating that the killer is a sadistic predator."

He then looked at Jack. Knowing his pop quiz was about to begin again, Jack obediently answered the teacher's question.

"A sadist needs to torture and observe the victim's suffering to find satisfaction, including psychological torture. The reason the killer only targeted couples is likely for this reason."

Jack paused, revealing a reason that many in the room had vaguely sensed but dared not delve into.

"He would force the husband to witness his wife being assaulted."

Sure enough, as soon as he said that, the expressions of the officers present, including Sheriff Bruner, beca sowhat unnatural.

Emily ignored the whispers and, following Jack's deductions, completed a psychological profile of the killer.

"The killer likely harbors an extre aversion to won, stemming from the cruelty inflicted on him by a woman, most likely his mother or stepmother."

"He may have witnessed her infidelity or similar behavior more than once. Growing up in such an environnt, he may have never been in a relationship, let alone married."

The officers, including Sheriff Bruner, nodded in agreent.

"We're investigating the Sherwood area for individuals with a history of cris against won, but this takes ti, and we're running out of ti. The killer is likely to strike again within two or three days."

"But we can't conduct a large-scale search. Even if we question people under the guise of investigating missing persons, it might alert the killer, causing him to change his thods or even disappear."

After speaking, Hotchner frowned, looking at the group of male officers before him, and continued.

"We've already requested assistance from nearby police stations and dispatched so officers, mainly female officers, who will arrive tonight and tomorrow."

"Dr. Reid has selected over 30 motels on remote roads near Sherwood, all with fewer than five employees. Over the next few days, you will pose as married couples with these female officers, each posing as tourists and checking into these motels at night."

Seeing the smiles on the male officers' faces, Hotchner interrupted their fantasies with a poker face.

"You must understand, this is an extrely dangerous job. We still don't know how the killer managed to control those four couples silently. Although the autopsy report didn't find any drugs in their bodies, the risk is still very high."

"Everyone will only be allowed to carry concealed handguns. Considering the killer's victims are won, the n posing as husbands are the priority targets. You must protect yourselves and your partners."

"This isn't so romantic mission. You must remain vigilant at all tis and not let the killer notice anything amiss. We only accept officers with undercover experience or relevant training."

Sheriff Bruner stepped forward, called out a series of nas, and then adjourned the eting.

The idea of posing as married tourists to check into a motel was devised by the BAU mbers. After narrowing down the suspects, a thorny problem arose: once the killer was found, how to pin the evidence against him?

No DNA evidence was found on the victim's body. Even if the cri scene was found, without direct evidence linking the perpetrator to the killer, the BAU's first case after its official formation wouldn't be perfect.

Because this case involves interstate cri, once the killer is apprehended, they will inevitably face federal trial, with the FBI involved throughout. If anything goes wrong during the prosecution, it's almost predictable how many questions will arise.

Therefore, when forr prosecutor Hotchner raised this point, Rossi naturally looked at Jack, and the two exchanged knowing smiles.

After all, no one is more experienced than Jack in these situations; a re predator is nothing compared to the cannibals from New xico.
