JJ bit her pink lips, remaining silent. She simply reached up and tucked a stray strand of golden hair behind her ear, staring at him for a long ti.
Just as Jack thought she was about to do sothing, JJ suddenly spoke.
"Reid said he assigned us the most likely location."
"Huh?" Jack didn't quite understand what she ant.
"Your acting is terrible. If you run into the murderer, you'll be easily exposed." JJ's face was getting closer and closer to his; now he could practically sll her breath.
This woman dared to question his usually prided acting skills, and Jack launched a rciless counterattack.
[A/n: Dude even a dead body could express more strongly than you ever could.]
"You an, like this?"
And kissed her lips softly with little force.
When Jack ca to his senses, he realized their bodies had unconsciously switched places, and now he was half-stuck in the passenger seat.
He didn't imdiately back out, but maintained the sa position as JJ, nose to nose.
"It's getting late, any later and we'll have to sleep in the car, dear Mr. Ritchie," JJ spoke again, her voice slightly hoarse.
Jack chuckled at her response, half-heartedly teasing her.
He got back into the driver's seat, released the handbrake, and the SUV resud its journey, driving along the mountain road for a while before finally stopping in front of a row of wooden cabins.
Next to the cabins stood a large neon sign, displaying the green word "VACANCY" indicating rooms were available.
The temperature was low that night, close to minus seven or eight degrees Celsius, but thankfully it wasn't snowing. Jack took two down jackets from the back seat and handed JJ the long, white won's jacket.
The car was still running; the row of cabins was just a reception area, and they would drive further in later. The hilltop cabins lived up to their na, each room being an independent little cabin, which looked quite unique.
The two wrapped their down jackets tighter and ran into the reception area.
A jingle sounded as the door chis opened, and a short man with a full beard looked up from behind the counter. Seeing the handso couple enter, he couldn't help but smile warmly.
"Welco to the hilltop cabins. How can I help you?"
"Give us a room, preferably one with good soundproofing." Jack grinned mischievously, and JJ, whom he was holding, playfully punched him.
"Ah, no problem. Each cabin is at least 30 feet apart, so you don't have to worry about being disturbed."
"It's $60 a night, including breakfast. Cabin number 10, you can find its location on the small map on the wall over there."
"Are you the only one here?" JJ curiously looked around the reception room. It was fairly clean, and everything was neatly arranged.
As she spoke, seemingly feeling a bit warm inside, she casually loosened her down jacket, revealing her figure.
The short man seed to act normally until Jack released JJ and walked aside to look at the map on the wall. Only then did he reveal a greedy look, sizing JJ up and down.
"The economy isn't great, so we don't have permanent staff. A cleaning lady cos every day, but I'm usually the only one here."
"You're lucky. The weather has been great these past few days, no snow or wind, so you can enjoy the snow-capped peaks in the distance."
JJ seed oblivious to his scrutinizing gaze, leaning lazily against the door.
"Honey, did you find it? I'm exhausted, this place has no cell phone signal, it's so boring."
"Found it, cabin number 10." Jack tapped a point on the map, then complained impatiently.
"You were the one who insisted on coming for a vacation, and now you're the one who's bored. What a troubleso woman."
"Hmph, you're already getting tired of , aren't you?" JJ acted like a petulant, unreasonable woman.
Watching the bickering young couple run back to their car, the short, bearded man's face darkened. He casually pressed a switch, and the large neon sign next to the reception cabin flashed.
The large green word "VACANCY" was replaced with a red "NO."
"Hey, honey, why aren't you taking your luggage?" JJ asked, surprised as Jack pulled her inside.
"Sleep in tomorrow, we'll leave at noon. No need to move anything, there's not a soul around here."
Before he finished speaking, JJ was scooped up in his arms, and Jack slamd the door shut with his heel.
JJ gasped and giggled, "No, it's so cold in here! Go turn on the heater!"
"Okay, okay, whatever you say."
Jack spent a little ti finding the remote for the heater. By the ti he went into the bathroom to quickly wash up, JJ had already brushed her teeth and was standing to the side, staring at him blankly.
"Waiting impatiently?" Jack casually washed his face, and amidst JJ's gasp, he picked her up again.
"Turn off the light." JJ whispered in his ear.
The room was plunged into darkness. The large wooden bed looked rugged and sturdy, but it was actually of poor quality, creaking incessantly.
JJ was having a hard ti, pretending to make all sorts of strange noises while whispering in Jack's ear. This was the first ti she had to do so.
"The vanity glass in the bathroom is one-way, and I even found half a bloody tooth tucked into the gap of the sink."
Jack was also struggling, but he was just enduring it. He used to play it for real, but this ti it was all acting, and he was quite unaccustod to it.
Of course, it was absolutely impossible for them to actually do anything. Not only would JJ not agree, but the suspect would definitely be watching from the shadows, and there might even be caras or sothing secretly filming. These things would be used as evidence later, and if it went to court, it would be disastrous.
"This room has been specially modified. The door has electromagnetic locks at the top and bottom, and they're very well hidden. All the furniture is fixed to the floor, including the bedside lamp, which is nailed in place."
"The other cabins we passed earlier had wooden snow guards outside the glass windows, but this room only has tal plates. Once they're locked, it's like a giant cage."
The two of them obtained enough information in just a few minutes through simple actions like washing up and looking for the heater remote.
"Should we notify Rossi and the others?" Jack's hand had already reached for the signal device that JJ had hidden.
