"And this Mr. Gaspare also volunteered to co with ." Jack stepped forward under everyone's gaze, then looked at the prisoner who was keeping a slight distance from the others.
Gaspare was slightly taken aback, looking at Jack who was smiling at him, and for a mont didn't know what to say.
"Co on, he was handcuffed before, don't think I didn't see it just because he was hiding it with his clothes. Are you two in cahoots? I saw you two go into business class, and not long after, that dead guy took him in too."
The bald white man suddenly erupted, whether it was because he was embarrassed by the female college student's accusations or because of his innate paranoid personality.
Flight attendant Bonnie stepped forward in ti, "Nonsense, Officer Tavelor and Officer JJ were doing it out of good intentions. I asked them to help supervise special passengers."
"Yeah, and the policeman in charge of guarding the prisoner died, didn't he? Who knows what you plan to do to us, I even suspect the plane…"
Before the bald white man could finish speaking, Gaspare rushed up and grabbed him by the neck.
"Don't insult Officer Karam! He's a good man. He promised to clear my na, that's why I'm going with him."
"Hey, hey, calm down, relax, relax." Jack quickly grabbed the burly man's arm.
Gaspare's arm was almost as thick as the old white man's thigh; only Jack could hold him.
"Alright, everyone, anyone with a normal mind knows why I chose Mr. Gaspare to go with us. It's already dawn, we need to leave here as soon as possible; it's too dangerous to stay."
Before Jack could finish speaking, the old white man, who had been pulled aside by the others, roared again, "I don't trust you! I won't leave!"
"OK, OK, don't get agitated. We're not forcing everyone to co with us. We've already inford everyone about the dangers of this island, and food and water have been distributed." Captain Torrance quickly stepped in to smooth things over.
Jack's final reminder was more than enough.
"I also suggest that those of you who want to stay hide. Don't easily trust the locals. There's a reason why Abu Sayyaf has been able to occupy the island for decades."
Captain Torrance's persuasiveness was quite good, thanks in large part to JJ's psychological "team building" in just one or two hours.
In the end, almost everyone was willing to leave with the crew. However, to Jack's surprise, apart from the bald, white man with a head full of conspiracy theories, the middle-aged couple from a certain Chingchong country also refused to leave.
He was still thinking of trying to communicate with them.
"Are you also one of our fellow believers?" The couple looked delighted and tried to grab his hand.
"I'm your neighbor," Jack muttered, quickly shaking his hand away as if he had touched sothing filthy.
JJ, sowhat puzzled, asked Jack what was going on. He gave a general description of the the fanatical groups most common in Chingchong. The others listening nodded in understanding, then kept their distance from the couple.
Jack and the "volunteer" Gaspare set off first, agreeing on markers along the way. The two captains and first officer escorted the group one after the other to prevent anyone from getting lost or falling behind.
"Since you say the people on the island are untrustworthy, why are you taking everyone to the nearest town for help?"
After traveling southwest along the main road for a short while, the two turned onto a forest path. Seeing Jack mark the intersection with small stones, Gaspare finally couldn't hold back his questions and broke the silence.
"Of course it's a lie. Our goal is just to hide the people first," Jack told the truth.
"I guessed it. We're heading north now. Are you planning to take a detour?" Gaspare's expression was mostly hidden by his ssy beard, but the smile lines at the corners of his eyes couldn't be concealed.
"Most of them are ordinary people living in normal society. Their understanding of so-called 'terrorists' is limited to television or online dia," Jack stated, stating the consensus they had reached with the two captains and the other crew mbers.
"People only believe what they see with their own eyes. Our horrific descriptions might get them to follow us, but only temporarily. As ti goes on, thirst, hunger, and exhaustion will cause them to constantly doubt themselves."
"What we need to do is, before that happens, get everyone to form a collective consciousness, establish a common goal, face the crisis squarely."
Gaspare's eyes almost spun with excitent. "Who are you and that pretty blonde? I don't believe Arican police would know this stuff."
"We're from the FBI, affiliated with the BAU. We went to Singapore for the International Psychology Congress, but we had to rush back to Los Angeles because of an ergency, and then…" Jack even explained what the BAU was. He had nothing to hide from this guy. With the captain's current persona and that pot-bellied look, he didn't look like he could fight. Gaspare's muscles were his only reliable backup.
"I'll definitely remind myself to stay away from people like you in the future." Gaspare expressed his flattery in a teasing tone, then tentatively asked.
"If we're successfully rescued, what do you plan to do with ?"
"What do you an, 'do with '?" Jack chuckled.
"The FBI doesn't handle Canadian cases anymore. Did you really kill soone?"
Gaspare shook his head. "I was only 18 back then, a reckless age, just in the wrong place at the wrong ti."
"So you ended up in the French Foreign Legion?" Seeing him open up, Jack went along with it, not caring whether what he said was true or not, as long as he wasn't so antisocial psychopath or Chingchong fanatic.
"Yes, the pay and benefits were terrible, but as long as you were capable, they wouldn't ask too many questions." Gaspare's tone was wistful, as if recalling so unpleasant past.
"Why didn't you take that gun? I know Officer Karam carries a handgun."
Jack glanced back at him, a bit of curiosity in his eyes.
