Pfft! Pfft!
With a few soft sounds, the lead prisoner and the henchman who had taken the lighter fell to the ground. Before the others could react, SWAT team mbers filed in, pointing guns at their heads. The shooters were Hondo and Luca, aiming for vital parts of the torso. The two, shot through the lungs and hearts, didn't even utter a scream.
"Don't move! Don't move!"
"Hands up! Don't move!"
"Face down! Crouch!"
Amidst the suppressed growls of the team mbers, the remaining prisoners obediently crouched down, covering their heads.
"Thank God, you're finally here." The prison guard, who had almost been used as a target for venting his anger, was so excited upon seeing the SWAT team that his voice almost cracked.
"Shut up! What's your na?" Chris, the only female mber of the SWAT team, restrained him, but instead of imdiately untying his hands and feet, she looked at the vice-captain, Deacon.
"Tari Abbotton, thank you, thank you for saving ."
Deputy Captain Deacon had a tactical PAD strapped to his wrist, connecting directly to the database in the command vehicle outside. He entered the na, and relevant information appeared on the screen.
"No problem, the photo matches, he's one of the guards."
Chris pulled a dagger from her boot and cut the ropes binding his hands and feet.
"Thank you so much, I thought I was really going to die this ti."
Tari Abbotton hastily wiped the snot and tears from his face with his last remaining undershirt, frantically picking up his guard uniform from the ground and putting it on.
"You still have the keys?" Hondo asked curiously, seeing him hang a large bunch of keys back on his waist.
"Yes, I have most of the keys to Block A. They took the spare keys after they took control of the control room, so they didn't take mine." Tari Abbotton nodded quickly.
"We need to find your other colleagues, do you know anything about that?" Jack asked.
"Yes, I found them. I saw them locked in their cells, but those guys from the 'Nine Gang' are tough to deal with, especially that Keitel Porter."
Tari Abbotton looked shaken.
"Are they tougher than us?" Hondo grinned, revealing his white teeth.
"You have two choices. We'll lock these guys up, and you can stay with them until we clear out Block A. Then the LAPD will open the iron gate here and co up from the third floor."
"Or co with us, lead the way, and rescue your colleagues."
Tari Abbotton glanced at the bound prisoners and swallowed hard. "Why not open the iron gate now?"
"LAPD officers aren't trained in this. We need to clear out Block A first before they can co in; otherwise, it'll only increase casualties."
As they spoke, the SWAT officers had already herded several prisoners into a storage room, binding them hand and foot, and even dragged in two corpses.
"Now, state your decision." Hondo leaned against the door, looking at the young prison guard.
"I'll stay with you. I feel safer with you." Tari Abbotton answered decisively.
Hearing this, Hondo slamd the storage room door shut and gestured for him to take out his key and lock it.
"Stay with , don't fall behind." Jack looked the guy over and decided he didn't look like a prison guard at all; there wasn't a trace of training in him. He casually asked,
"How long have you been working here? What did you do before?"
"Six months. I was a packer before." The guy nad Tari followed timidly behind Jack, looking completely like an ordinary person.
"Didn't you get any training before doing this job?" Deacon, who was walking at the back, was quite surprised.
"Maybe other prisons do, but not here. I saw they were hiring, so I ca. Now I think the $11 an hour might not be worth it."
"Ha, a private prison." Tan, who hadn't said a word until now ansered.
"Alright, this is none of our business for now. Focus on the task at hand. We'll talk about it when we get out."
Hondo interrupted the conversation and began assigning tasks.
"Chris, Strickland, and Tan, the three of you stay here and wait for us to co back. If anything unexpected happens, you are allowed to retreat to the stairs and have the people downstairs open the door for you to evacuate."
"We won't abandon you." Chris had just objected when Hondo glared at her.
"This is an order. We'll try to evacuate through the security door. You'll need to et us outside. Of course, this is the worst-case scenario. Team B is on their way and will co upstairs to et you as soon as they arrive."
"Understood." The three didn't say anything more and found their hiding places.
Hondo and Luca continued to lead the way, with prison guard Tari in the middle, and Jack and Deacon bringing up the rear.
"Team A calling command center. We are penetrating deeper into Block A and haven't found any hostages yet."
"Roger, Team A. The negotiation experts are buying us ti. You will have the advantage before those gangs realize you're there."
Jessica Cortez's voice ca through the earpiece.
With a prison guard familiar with the area, their progress was much faster.
Although prison guard Tari claid he hadn't received any specialized training, he had worked there for half a year and knew the terrain much better than SWAT officers who could only navigate by floor plans.
He led the group through the staff passage used by the prison guards, avoiding most places where people might gather.
"That's the guards' break room up ahead. From here, you can go directly to the deepest cells in Block A. But that 'Nine Gang' leader, Keitel Porter, and his n should be inside too."
said the guard, unlocking a door at the end of the corridor and pointing to a room around the corner.
The break room was noisy; the television was blasting, and there were occasional strange screams—it looked like a party.
Luca crouched by the door, gripping the handle with his left hand. Seeing Hondo nod to indicate they were ready, he abruptly pulled open the break room door.
"Hands up!"
"Let see your hands!"
"What the hell?" The three n who rushed into the room with guns froze. Luca, sowhat confused, followed them in and saw five or six prisoners in orange uniforms sitting obediently on the sofa, each holding a large tub of ice cream, happily eating.
Seeing the dark muzzles of guns pointed at them, the prisoners imdiately raised their hands, their faces filled with displeasure.
"You know there's been a riot in the prison, right?" Luca lowered his gun, his face filled with disbelief.
