At 8 PM, at the Wilshire Precinct, Jack, munching on a hamburger, found Nolan, who was handing over banker Caleb Yost to the county sheriffs.
"I sent Hannah ho to rest. I just spoke to the hospital; the deputy sheriff nad Graham is out of danger. Let's go visit him."
Nolan's expression was sowhat strange. After a mont of hesitation, he said, "I just asked. Graham is single and has no wife, so that's why he asked to pass on his ssage to Beth."
Western nas are such a hassle, all sorts of abbreviations and nicknas, and you have to distinguish between first and last na depending on the level of intimacy. Jack sighed and pulled aside a county sheriff who was escorting a prisoner, asking,
"Does your Deputy Captain Graham have any friends or colleagues nad Elizabeth or Isabella?"
"My na is Elizabeth. What can I do for you?" A white policewoman, probably in her forties, approached from a distance.
Nolan looked surprised. "You know Graham?"
The policewoman nodded. "Yes, we've worked together for the past five years."
Jack finished his hamburger and stepped forward, asking, "Did he ever call you Beth?"
The policewoman's expression changed slightly, and she didn't answer directly. "Why do you ask?"
Nolan scratched his head and explained, "Well, we were the two LAPD officers who found Graham at the accident scene."
"He grabbed my hand before getting into the ambulance and asked to pass on a ssage."
"What ssage?" Elizabeth glanced around, her eyes welling up and gradually reddening, seemingly at a loss, yet also wanting to explain sothing. "I heard before that he might not make it, so…"
Nolan quickly waved his hand. "No, my colleague just contacted the hospital, and he's out of danger. Before…"
He hesitated, seemingly unsure how to begin.
Jack, feeling he'd rolled his eyes far too many tis today, simply picked up the thread: "He said to tell Beth he loves you."
Elizabeth seed incredulous, covering her mouth with her hands, her eyes sparkling with joy, but her voice trembling with emotion: "You're lying."
"No!" Nolan quickly vouched for Jack: "He thought he was going to die; those were his last words."
"So, it was you? You two are dating?" Jack, the gossip-loving observer, pressed on relentlessly. This was probably the only two small normal incidents in this awful day, besides receiving a kiss from the little girl, that could brighten his mood. He had to see this gossip through to the end.
Elizabeth's tears welled up, and she nodded repeatedly: "He's my friend, a really good one. There was a ti when I thought he'd ask out, and I hoped he'd say yes, but he never did."
Clapping up, case closed! Nolan and Jack high-fived in celebration.
"I think he must have regretted it very, very much back then. Now we're planning to visit him at the Central Hospital. Would you like to co with us?" John invited, and Elizabeth nodded excitedly while wiping away her tears.
"I'll drive." Jack excitedly crumpled the hamburger wrapper in his hand into a ball and tossed it behind him, landing perfectly in the corner trash can.
"What a fairytale ending." After hearing Jack's retelling of the gossip, Hannah, nestled on the sofa, blushed and kissed him.
"Oh, right." Jack seed to suddenly rember sothing and added, "Nolan and his Dr. Carrie seem to be developing a relationship. I saw them gazing at each other so affectionately at the hospital just now, it gave goosebumps."
"What about us? Valentine's Day is in two months, but I'll already be in Quantico by then. Should we move it up?"
Hannah wrapped her arms around Jack's neck, her hot breath seeming to raise the temperature around them several degrees.
Jack lowered his head and planted a kiss on her fair and sexy collarbone, about to explore further, but she pushed him away with a coquettish laugh.
"We agreed to wait until I ca back from Quantico before taking things further. Are you going to break your promise?"
Jack let out a frustrated growl and slapped the girl's pert bottom as punishnt for teasing him.
He hated agreents, whether with Hannah or Zoe — they were just too annoying.
In the days that followed, good things ca one after another. First, a series of basic life skills were obtained. So skills even rged and branched into derivative skills.
For example, the newly acquired bomb disposal skills rged with his existing chemistry and handicraft skills to create demolition and bomb disposal skills.
The suddenly abundant skill tree was dazzling, and while Jack was pleasantly surprised, he also deeply felt the scarcity of system coins. The 5 coins he received as a promotion reward, plus the 3 he had recently saved, only amounted to 8 in total, still not enough to upgrade even one master-level skill.
He was still hesitating whether to first upgrade his rifle shooting to master level, or wait until he saved 10 coins to upgrade his pistol to master level, thus gaining invincibility within ten paces.
Both skills had their strengths. Considering he would be working in the LAPD for a considerable ti and would frequently need to use rifles in major situations, Jack hesitated for a long ti before deciding to save up the 10 system coins and use them as needed.
In addition, he had acquired other skills over the past few months, such as lockpicking from Angela, and basic Spanish and French through self-study of language books and practice with colleagues.
However, ti was limited, and these skills remained at the beginner level. Jack didn't plan to waste system coins on them; normally, the beginner level was sufficient for most situations.
With continued learning and practice, his basic attributes continued to improve, and these skills would gradually upgrade during use.
The next good thing was that Jack finally had his own house in this world. After a series of tedious procedures, the white two-story house at 7765 Genesee Street was finally transferred to his na.
