Now reading: Chapter 46 46: 46-Attack from Reborn: The Rookie Detective, a Action novel by jackrose.

Joking aside, Jack really shipped Angela and Wesley as a couple. Although they bickered, their relationship remained strong.

In fact, excluding the self-dramatized relationship of the Hunters, this couple was probably one of the few truly positive couples in almost every Arican TV series. They faced life-or-death crises together, navigated the various challenges of daily life, and eventually had two children.

Jack thought to himself, 'It wouldn't be bad to live a normal, loving life like theirs.' He walked with Nolan to the parking lot. Hannah had already taken the unconscious Angela ho.

Los Angeles has a temperate climate, so even in December, the nightti temperature was still in the teens. The cool night breeze invigorated the slightly tipsy pair.

Nolan's old Ford pickup truck was parked closer. As Jack approached his car, preparing to wave goodbye, a screeching tire screech suddenly sounded behind them.

A chilling sensation shot up Jack's spine from his tailbone to the back of his head, instantly erasing any trace of alcohol.

He shoved Nolan to the right side of the pickup truck's hood, then ducked inside himself. Almost imdiately, a sharp screech of brakes was followed by a burst of gunfire, bullets raining down on them like hail.

Jack pressed Nolan's head down, trying to hide them both behind the front wheels. The thin steel plates of the civilian car offered no protection against the automatic rifle fire; only the engine and thick wheels could withstand full-power rifle rounds.

Ti seed to drag on endlessly. Almost every car alarm in the parking lot went off. Jack pulled his Python revolver from his holster, silently counting to himself, but the gunfire seed incessant, continuing relentlessly.

Soon, Nolan's pickup was riddled with bullets, the fuel tank ripped open, and the dangerous sll of gasoline filled the air. Just as Jack was about to risk a counterattack, the gunfire finally ceased.

Worried it was a trap, Jack feigned peeking out. Finding no reaction, he leaned out halfway to retaliate, only to see two red taillights.

"Fuck!" Jack cursed. The earlier hail of bullets hadn't sent his adrenaline soaring, but his rage was clearly off the charts.

Nolan was still crouching beside the car, his face covered in cold sweat. He'd never experienced a gunfight like the one at Bronson Tower; the sudden attack had clearly terrified him.

Jack pulled him up and made him call the police, then pulled out his phone and dialed Hannah's.

Although the attack was most likely aid at Nolan, he gave a brief overview of the situation just in case, instructing Hannah to wake Angela and return quickly to prevent them from being attacked as well.

Now Jack roughly understood where that woman's threat to Nolan had co from. If he rembered correctly, Zoe died protecting Nolan in the aftermath of this event.

A surge of irritation welled up inside him. He silently reminded himself to stay calm and not let concern cloud his judgnt. He only knew that Zoe had died because of this incident, but he couldn't recall the specific details. Now wasn't the ti to regret not watching the show carefully; he could only take it one step at a ti for now.

Less than five minutes later, Hannah's Mustang sped into the parking lot. She jumped out and nervously checked Jack's entire body, only relaxing when she confird he was unhard.

Angela, who had been forced to wake up by washing her face with a bottle of ice-cold mineral water, looked at the ss on the ground, her eyes still sowhat dazed, seemingly still wondering what she had missed.

Ten minutes later, a large number of police cars arrived with sirens blaring, followed by Tim, Lucy, Nyla, and others in plainclothes who had also received the news and rushed over from their hos.

Tim stared wide-eyed at Nolan's old pickup truck, now a complete wreck, his face filled with disbelief. "Who did you two offend?"

Jack pointed at Nolan. "You should ask Nolan. It was probably aid at him. The shooter was obviously heavily ard. We'd barely reached the truck when he opened fire on us with an assault rifle equipped with a modified drum magazine, firing over a hundred rounds."

"By the ti I was about to retaliate, he'd already gotten back in his car and sped away. I only saw his taillights; I couldn't even make out the license plate. He must have been a seasoned professional."

Still sowhat shaken, Nolan shook his head, looking bewildered.

Lucy and Nyla, who had finished speaking with the night shift officers, approached.

"The night shift officers questioned the surrounding area, and no one saw the gunman."

"Or rather, no one wants to admit to seeing him," Nyla added.

"They found the car the gunman used; it was reported stolen this afternoon."

At that mont, Zoe and Commander Gray walked up from behind the group.

Zoe revealed the truth: "According to intelligence, you're wanted by the Southern Front."

Tim seed sowhat displeased: "This old rookie got a bounty on his head from the mob before ? Looks like I need to step up my ga. This is unbelievable."

Well, that was very Tim-esque.

Angela, now fully awake, clearly had a different opinion: "This shouldn't have anything to do with Nolan's police status; it's more of a personal grudge. Otherwise, there's no reason for him to be targeted by a white supremacist group like the Southern Front."

Nolan was even more confused: "Excuse , a white supremacist gang? A kill order? What's going on?"

Commander Gray explained: "Normally, gangs don't target police officers; it would cause them a lot of trouble. They only issue a kill order if a police officer insults a gang mber."

Nolan stared blankly at everyone, seemingly not understanding what they were talking about.

Jack sighed: "I think it must be that woman you arrested today. You forgot the threats she made against you."

"She tore her dress in public and insisted that I embarrassed her in front of everyone," Nolan suddenly realized.

Zoe nodded. "Astrid Heather, the woman of the leader of the Southern Front gang, one of the most violent gangs in California."

"Because of that woman's influence, the Southern Front gang leader has now ordered all gang mbers to hunt you down," Commander Gray added.

"And what about ? I'm the reason Nolan arrested her." Nyla's face lit up with anticipation; like Tim, she seed to consider being hunted by the gang an honor.

The stern-faced commander looked helpless, unsure whether to be pleased or angry at his subordinate's optimistic, suicidal attitude.

"Nolan was the one who handcuffed her, so the kill order only applies to Nolan."

Nyla's expression still held a hint of resentnt as she glared fiercely at Tim, who seed relieved. This African-Arican policewoman, retired from her position as a veteran undercover detective, was clearly audacious.
