In fact, after Rosalind led everyone along the forest path for 40 minutes, everyone's mood beca rather unpleasant.

The mountain mist had long since dissipated, the sunlight was exceptionally strong, and the mountain path was rugged and difficult to traverse, yet she maintained a relaxed smile on her face.

Lucy complained to Tim in a low voice, "I think she's playing us. Maybe she just wants us to co along on this picnic."

Tim agreed, "Yes, to have the LAPD completely manipulated and controlled, that's her sche."

Sean Delmont said righteously, "As long as it helps find the remains of three families, what harm is there in letting her enjoy herself?"

"And then, our esteed Assistant District Attorney can get a big appearance on your evening news?" Jack, lagging behind them by more than ten steps, teased Tyler Kelly in a low voice.

Tyler Kelly's breathing was a little rapid, her face was covered with a layer of sweat, and her cheeks were flushed, making her look exceptionally beautiful but her mood wasn't. "Isn't it a win-win situation?"

"Let's rest for a bit, we still have a long way to go." Rosalind stopped in a small clearing.

Commander Grey picked up the walkie-talkie: "Rest here, all personnel hold back."

Jack took two bottles of mineral water from his backpack, tossed them to Tyler Kelly and the caraman, and opened one for himself, taking a couple of sips.

Nolan also took out his backpack and took out a bottle of mineral water. Rosalind raised her hands, which were handcuffed behind her back, indicating that Nolan should feed her.

Just as Nolan was a little at a loss, Nyla rolled her eyes and took the mineral water from his hand.

Jack's keen senses alerted him to unusual activity. He called out to Commander Grey, "Besides SWAT, are there any other personnel deployed around here?"

Commander Grey, having just finished a bottle of water, looked puzzled. "No, what did you find?"

Jack's sharp gaze pierced through the woods, spotting a figure about twenty or thirty ters away. "There seems to be soone over there, but they look like they're in civilian clothes."

Everyone looked in the direction Jack was pointing, when suddenly a gunshot rang out, a bullet whizzing past Rosalind's head.

Nolan tackled her to the ground, and the others scrambled for cover. Only Sean Delmont, who had never experienced a gunfight before, stood there dumbfounded.

Almost simultaneously with the gunshot, Jack grabbed Tyler Kelly's arm, dragged her behind a large tree stump, and gestured for her caraman to lie down.

"Stay here and don't move." Before he finished speaking, another gunshot rang out, the bullet striking a tree trunk beside Delmont. Fragnts flew, causing him to cry out in pain as he collapsed to the ground.

"Ah, I've been shot! Help !"

The officers ignored him, scrambling for cover and returning fire.

"Stay put!" Jack reiterated to Tyler Kelly, then looked up at Tim, gesturing for a pincer movent from both sides.

Angela's pregnancy was still a secret, and among the group, Tim, his forr colleague, was the one with the best understanding.

Tim nodded in understanding, then bent down and disappeared into the left side of the woods. Before Jack disappeared into the right side of the woods, he pointed two fingers to his eyes at Angela, then pointed in the direction Tim had disappeared. Angela nodded in understanding.

Jack and Tim quickly surrounded the gunman from behind. A middle-aged Black man with a carbine was nervously changing magazines behind a large tree, completely unaware that soone had appeared behind him.

"Put down your gun! Put it on the ground! Surrender!" Jack and Tim shouted simultaneously. The officers facing the gunman imdiately ceased firing to avoid friendly fire.

"Hands behind your head, fingers interlaced, you're under arrest."

Tim stood still, gun in hand. Jack put away his Glock and took out handcuffs, cuffing the middle-aged black man kneeling on the ground.

"Is there anyone else besides you?"

The handcuffed black man cald down, his tone revealing despair.

"No, just ."

Lucy stepped forward and pulled him up from the ground, asking, "You ca here to save Rosalind?"

The middle-aged black man scoffed, "Save her? I ca to kill her. She murdered my wife!"

....

In the forest clearing, Zoe jumped out of the police car before it had even co to a complete stop and strode towards the crowd.

"What happened?"

SWAT team leader Hondo's face was grim. "Soone covered himself with a camouflage net and got out of my n's sight."

Rossi pointed to the middle-aged black man being put into the police car. "His na is Peter. Rosalind's third victim was his wife. The police have only found half of her body so far."

Nolan muttered to himself, "This family lost the lady of the house first, and now the man is going to be imprisoned."

Tyler Kelly finished her live report using the connection between the interview vehicle and the cara, and stood obediently to the side without a word, her eyes fixed on Zoe.

Jack glanced at her and asked Rossi in a low voice, "Do you think all of this was arranged by Rosalind?"

Rossi looked up at the woman being put back into the armored vehicle and sneered, "Didn't you notice her eyes just now? She was enjoying all of this. The location where you were attacked was definitely leaked to Peter by Rosalind's accomplices."

"She's crazy. If Peter had been a better shot, she would be dead by now." Nolan was sowhat incomprehensible.

Jack felt he had underestimated the woman: "Maybe Peter was chosen because soone investigated his lack of experience with firearms."

At that mont, Commander Grey and Delmont, whose head was bandaged, approached.

"Perhaps we should call it a day," Commander Grey suggested to Zoe.

"Impossible!" Delmont imdiately objected.

"Listen to , Captain Anderson, if we stop now, this operation will have to be repeated next week, maybe next month. Then, the scene will be at least twice the size of what it is now, with countless reporters surrounding this place."

Zoe rubbed her temples, a headache forming, and had to admit the man had a point.

"Let's continue then. Everyone be careful. I'll try to send more officers."

It was noon, and after a quick bite, they prepared to continue.

Seeing Rossi had followed, Jack was surprised, glancing down at his expensive leather shoes.

"Let's bet, this ti Rosalind will lead us to the burial site in less than fifteen minutes," Rossi shrugged.

The group continued their journey through the woods, Rosalind trying to strike up a conversation with Nolan.

"Well, I've been thinking, you saved my life just now, and I haven't thanked you yet. I practically peeled Peter's wife's face off, and even though I was such a ruthless person, you still protected . Why?"

This ti, even the usually mild-mannered Nolan no longer concealed his disgust: "It was my duty. I was just doing my job, not because it was you or anyone else."
