"You can use that tablet for GPS positioning. These trackers automatically emit a low-frequency signal every 30 seconds, detectable even 20 ters underground within a mile."
Jack gratefully thanked Rossi. Having a powerful ally was always a plus; the LAPD didn't have such useful gadgets. He imdiately took a tracker from the box and handed it to Rossi. Rossi was taken aback.
Jack shrugged, indicating it was better to be safe than sorry: "You were the one who arrested her."
In the briefing room, the patrol officers who had accompanied Rosalind up the mountain that day were gathered together discussing, including Commander Grey, who stood to one side with his arms crossed.
"Is it possible it's just a coincidence, that another killer buried the body in the sa place?" Nolan had just suggested this idea when Tim, whose seniority was second only to Commander Grey, rejected it.
"Rosalind definitely had accomplices outside of prison. She revealed the burial site to them."
Nyla shook her head. "It's difficult. She's a death row inmate, and she's in solitary confinent. All her external communications are strictly monitored. It's possible to pass on so information discreetly, but when it cos to a conspiracy, if the amount of information exchanged is too much and too frequent. It's hard to avoid being discovered."
Delmont chid in, "Since she was put in that cell, she hasn't had any visitors except her lawyer."
Angela looked at the assistant district attorney with disdain: "Who's her lawyer? Is it impossible for him to be acting as a ssenger?"
"Absolutely impossible. I know her lawyer. He's an upright person and would never get involved in sothing like this. And even if he were a lawyer, they would be under close surveillance when they et."
Delmont's answer was decisive, with a hint of displeasure in his expression.
"Besides, I received information that the FBI actually searched Rosalind's cell thoroughly before we even left for Griffith Park, and they found nothing."
"Who told you we found nothing?" David Rossi and Jack walked into the conference room one after the other.
"Jack, tell us what we have so far and what your thoughts are."
Jack didn't stand on ceremony. David Rossi made no attempt to hide his assessnt of him. At the very least, Commander Grey had probably already realized that his performance in this case was crucial to whether he could get into the FBI. Besides, one should never appear humble at a ti like this.
"During the FBI's search of Rosalind's cell, they found a chocolate wrapper, indicating that even as a death row inmate in solitary confinent, she still had access to the prison's underground black market. Considering she'd been there for four years, it's reasonable to assu she had ample ti to plan and orchestrate her accomplices' actions."
"The two bodies we found earlier were likely reburied, not buried deeply or recently, possibly even just last night. Commander Grey should have noticed this as well."
The commander, arms crossed, nodded. "Yes, the new body is too well-preserved; it must have been kept in a relatively sealed container. Normally, if a body is buried directly underground, even without being discovered by scavengers, insects and small animals in the soil will cause serious damage."
"So, Rosalind must have sohow inford her accomplices of the original burial location, and then her accomplices dug up the remains, reburied them, and added a new victim."
"What was their purpose in doing this? Just to manipulate the police?" Lucy asked.
"It's not just about playing the police." Delmont's face was very grim. "Because the dia is here, this news will soon be known throughout the city. If the case cannot be solved quickly, it ans Rosalind will have more bargaining chips, and her next goal may very well be to obtain parole."
Everyone present looked at the assistant district attorney with hostility.
Commander Grey scoffed, "Let guess, inviting the dia for follow-up interviews, could it have been Rosalind's suggestion, or perhaps a hint?"
Delmont's face was almost as dark as Commander Gery pointed out, and he fell silent.
'This idiot's future is ruined', Jack thought to himself.
Rossi glanced at Delmont with an equally unfriendly expression, then continued, "Due to the LAPD's shortage of forensic personnel and the tight schedule, I contacted the Jeffersonian Institute. Dr. Temperance Brennan will lead her team to handle the autopsies of those two bodies."
Seeing Nolan's hesitant expression, Rossi gestured for him to speak.
"Uh, the Temperance Brennan you ntioned is probably my ex-wife's sister. But we haven't seen each other in a long ti."
Everyone turned to Nolan in surprise. Jack was speechless. Caos in Arican TV shows were commonplace; indeed, in the original series, Nolan's ex-wife Sarah was played by the actress who played Brennan in *Bones*, but in this stitched-up world, their relationship was portrayed in this way — sothing he hadn't expected.
Rossi nodded. "Their plane lands in two hours, and Officer Nolan will pick them up. But before that, you need to convince Rosalind to help us find the other two body locations. I'm worried there might be another body there too."
"Why ?" Nolan asked, puzzled.
Everyone's eyes turned to him again, thinking, 'Isn't this a rhetorical question?'
Lucy smiled and nudged Nolan. "Don't you think she's attracted to you? Can't you feel it?"
Everyone nodded in unison, including the still dejected Delmont.
Seeing the atmosphere inexplicably lighten, Jack shook his head speechlessly and continued analyzing the case.
"So our current goal is to catch Rosalind's accomplices as soon as possible. Before the autopsy results, we only have one lead: find the person running the prison's underground black market and pry a na out of him."
"Also," Jack distributed the tracking devices to everyone present, "given Rosalind's long-term planning, I have reason to believe she's investigated everyone she's been in contact with today. To prevent any unforeseen circumstances, everyone here should carry this."
Angela frowned, examining the small black disc in her hand. "You an, that crazy woman might be targeting us? Will our families be in danger?"
"My advice is to remind any relatives near Los Angeles to be careful recently. Also, please keep this on your person."
Then, Nyla and Angela boldly pulled open their uniforms and inserted the discs directly into their tops. Lucy blushed and didn't dare imitate them, glancing at the n present and muttering, "I'm going to the changing room later."
