To this day, they had not spoken about what happened at the Yu Mansion that night.
Ella tried to broach the topic a couple of tis but Adrian seed to avoid talking about it.
After a while, Ella also stopped ntioning it. Now, Ronan has left. And Ji Yan was buried under imnse work pressure at King Empires.
So, the Eve Mansion was relatively empty, except for the regular people in the place.
And now, Ella had made up her mind to talk to Adrian about certain things.
She quietly fed him the entire bowl of chicken soup and Adrian let her do so, without any complaints.
Ella then wiped his lips with the silk napkin.
Just as she was retracting her hand, the man grabbed her wrist.
The napkin dropped on the table. Adrian pulled her hand close to himself as he gently massaged it.
Ella blinked. Lately, she has been used to this too. He let her feed him but right after, he would hold her and massage it, afraid that she was sore.
"If not for , nothing would have happened to you that night," Ella said suddenly.
Adrian’s movents paused for a brief mont before he continued massaging her hand religiously again.
Ella sighed, "The only reason you resorted to harming yourself was because you were afraid that I would be hard by them..."
Ella had thought about it for a long ti.
Riri had always been the one who perceived signals and seed to understand everything so when she had sent him out, she had hoped that Ji Yan was still around.
It was also Ella’s wild guess that Ji Yan must have brought a huge troop of people along with them for Adrian’s safety.
So, there was no way Adrian would be clueless about these arrangents. It would have probably taken him just one signal before Ji Yan rushed in.
Yet, he did not. Even under the influence of drugs, Adrian was looking for Ella.
The reason he did not summon his people was out of fear that sothing would happen to her. So, before anything, he must find her first.
And that was why, the mont he saw Ella, safe and sound, he no longer forced himself to be conscious through his injuries.
But rather, he collapsed on her.
"In the future, you don’t have to," Ella lowered her gaze, pulling her hand out of his grip, "Don’t be hurt because of , Adrian. I..."
"Is it a burden to you?"
Ella looked at him, stunned.
For a mont, both the people looked at each other, not saying a single word.
Ella opened her mouth, "You have many people who care for you. I don’t want you to act so recklessly..."
"Do you?" Adrian propped the side of his head on his fist, gazing at her.
Ella’s fingers curled around the table, "What do you think?" She responded to him just as he would usually.
And in response, he did not seem pissed at all.
But rather, a small smile played on his lips too, "You are all I care about, Elle. Even if I die protecting you, I—"
Ella pressed her palm on his lips, a deep frown settling between her brows, "Don’t jinx yourself like that. I would believe you if you just said it straightforwardly!"
Adrian’s eyes twinkled, "You... trust that much?" His lips brushed against her palms like the wings of a butterfly as he uttered each word.
Ella: "_" Sir, you... Can you not say such things? This lady has been thin-skinned these days ahh!
Ella quickly retracted her hand as if it was on fire.
She cleared her throat.
As the atmosphere between them gradually cald, the ambiguous air still persisted.
Inhaling a deep breath, Ella started solemnly, "That’s not all. Actually, there is sothing else I want to talk to you about."
Adrian looked at her, "Mm?"
"The Yu Family has hard you this ti. During the entire fiasco, I was not hard but I was used as bait to lure over there..." Ella paused, her eyes lowering for a mont as she said, "You... don’t have to consider ."
Adrian did not say anything.
"Deal with this situation however you’d like and do whatever you want with them. It wouldn’t change anything between us," This ti, Ella t his gaze resolutely.
Adrian arched a brow, one couldn’t tell what he was thinking at that point.
After a soft pause, Ella added in a smaller voice, "Just leave them alive."
...
Ambrose Mansion.
"Mrs. Ambrose is still unwell, it seems..." Max’s mother, Mrs. Hill, remarked.
Mr. Ambrose nodded slowly, "That’s right. My wife is quite delicate so the weather of Vermilion City has been quite unbearable for her lately."
"What about you, Mr. Ambrose? Your wounds seem to be healing well," Mrs. Hill sighed again, "Did you find the culprit?"
Mr. Ambrose’s injuries had fairly healed and he was no longer bedridden now. But one could still see the traces of violence that he went through.
"Those were so random goons, I just happened to hit bad luck that day..." In reality, Mr. Ambrose still couldn’t track back to the person who had attacked him.
But this was not sothing he would tell others and risk exposing a flaw in his authority.
"Is there a reason for your sudden visit?" Mr. Ambrose neatly changed the topic.
Mrs. Hill did not insist on it. Rather, she smiled, "I have co here with a heavy heart today."
"What do you an?" Mr. Ambrose frowned.
"I think the partnership between the Ambrose and Hill family can no longer happen."
Mr. Ambrose’s eyes darkened, "Nonsense! We would soon beco in-laws, how can you say such things?"
Mrs. Hill tilted her face to the side, sighing in pity, "It would be our honor to beco your in-laws. But the youngsters have their own ideas now. As much as I favor Ruby, our Hill Family has been keen on our principles for years. We cannot accept a daughter-in-law who works in the entertainnt industry!"
