When she opened them, he was helping her lie back down gently, arranging the blanket atop her.

She watched him quietly.

He walked to the door.

Ella’s gaze followed him.

He didn’t look back.

Not until the very last second, when his hand touched the doorknob. The man halted there for a mont and looked over his shoulder.

His eyes t hers again and then he stepped out, letting the door close behind him.

Silence filled the room again and the hospital room felt bigger without the man’s domineering presence.

Ella stared at the closed door, her lashes lowering ever so slightly.

The softness in her eyes vanished.

Her fingers curled slowly under the blanket and her eyes narrowed.

The mont Adrian stepped out of the hospital room, Ji Yan stepped forward.

A layer of sweat covered his forehead and his knees trembled.

There was a storm brewing behind Adrian’s calm eyes that made it unable for one to look straight at him.

The splintered corner of the iPad broke, drops of blood trickling down the corner.
