...

900 years ago, in a world segregated from the realm of humans — mortals — in its entirety, an oracle descended upon the clan of Spirit Foxes.

The oracle that descended was grand, it was sacred as it was carrying the mandate of heaven. It brought with itself trendous news that shook the Spirit Realm to its core.

"In Pyre’s embrace, a creature of fla aborn,

Ten tails afla, destiny hath sworn.

Through a millenia, it shall ascend,

To realms divine, where dreams transcend."

The mont the prophecy was made, the Spirit Fox clan rejoiced, taking pride in the fact that one day, soone will be born who’s destiny was to their god.

A god they had yet to have in ages.

So the clan waited and waited, everyday and every night passing by in the anticipation of the child of prophecy.

Old ones educated the young’uns afraid they might misstep and bring misfortune upon themselves.

Every soul in the clan awaited the creation of the destined ten-tailed fox. The buzz eventually faded when the prophecy’s chosen child didn’t co from the scalding pyres even a decade after the prophecy was made.

However, just when the foxes were about to completely forgetP the prophecy...

... It ca true.

The abode shook, the mountains of Sunrise Valley trembled with the sheer force of the land’s havoc. Thunderstorms began, lightning crackled, bright flashes streaking through the sky.

Panic set in, chaos followed, the foxes ran amok, their panic overwhelming their rationale when a flash of lighting struck their hos for the first ti.

Pandemonium descended upon them, those ethereal creatures helpless against the wrath of nature. Powerless, they could only hope to take cover under their clan leader.

Clan leader was old, older than any of them, hence he was wiser. He knew the wisdom of the ages and he knew how to read the stars.

Alas, those were the nights wherein no stars shone, their position unknown, the state of the moon hidden behind the thick blanket of rolling black clouds that poured and poured and poured indiscriminately.

As the old clan leader — perhaps he was 600 years old for he had a total of six tails — gazed up at the pouring heaven, expression stoic and his thoughts unfathomable.

One of the foxes dared to approach him, she dared to ask, her slightly form trembling and she had a tremor in her voice.

"Zongzhu*...?" She began, standing behind him and not daring to gaze at the sky, in an attempt to catch his attention.

The clan snapped out of his musings, young face a little befuddled as he turned to look at the young fox spirit. Against the crackling thunder, his tall silhouette was outline by the shadows.

"Yes?" He inquired, his voice as gentle as it ever was.

"What does heaven say about this disaster?" She asked quietly, jolting with a start when lightning struck with a resounding noise.

Amidst the relentless downpour, the heart of a forest in Sunrise Valley caught fire, trees went afla one after the other, embers slithering around and spreading like a plague, undeterred by the rain.

Destructive in its nature, in the glum darkness of the storm, it beca akin to a beacon. Though it was not hope, but loss, it was still a light illuminating everything around itself while simultaneously destroying it.

"... I cannot say for sure, young one." The clan leader’s wise gaze flickered to the clouded night sky as rain drops beat down on the land. "For Heaven’s will is now concealed even from ."

The woman pursed her lips together. "What a misfortune..."

The clan leader smiled, knowing glint in his eyes as he turned away from the window and walked deeper into his room. "I would not say that with such surety. Who is to say, perhaps this disaster will give rise to an unforeseen fortune?"

"What?"

"As they say, those who weather through a calamity descended upon them, they are destined for greatness."

She failed to understand his words.

Throughout the night, trees continued to go up in flas, tall embers, bright orange waves of unforgiving destruction rose taller and taller, as though they could dry up the storm clouds, as though they could burn away the torrent of heavenly tears.

The young fox stayed up the whole night, in the darkness of the storm and silence filled by its deafening roar, she laid on her bed, mulling over the words the clan leader said.

"As they say, those who weather through a calamity descended upon them, they are destined for greatness."

What did it an? She didn’t understand no matter how much she thought it over, restlessly tossing and turning in her bed did not help her.

She was curious to know.

...

The next morning, however, she found out the aning of the clan leader’s cryptic statent. Not only her, the entire clan of Spirit Foxes did.

Due to the flas that had swallowed the entire forest the previous night and still continued to burn, the clan leader beca worried and thus sent a team of three-tailed Spirit Foxes to see what remained of the forest and what beca of it. And if there was anything they could further save aside from putting the burning flas out.

However, what they did not anticipate in the slightest was stumbling upon the sight of a little kit curled up to itself, wrapped securely by its thick, luscious tail; in the middle of a burning circle of dancing flas.

Ignorant, the kit continued to slumber in unprecedented peace. The scorching flas danced around it, yet it showed neither signs of discomfort nor a speck of singed fur.

Embraced by a wide circle of flas, the kit was breathtaking, it was divine in every sense of the words. The bright light danced around it, not harming the kit in the slightest.

It had beautiful, amber fur, akin to the flas around it. Long, thick tail which circled its slight body almost protectively. Well-defined snout and a beautiful face, long pointed ears, frail and ethereal. Little paws huddled together and hugged closer.

It was small. It was beautiful.

The longer they gazed upon it, the longer they’d forgotten to breathe. The more they looked, the sooner they ca to a stupendous realisation.

"In Pyre’s embrace, a creature of fla aborn,"

It was surrounded by flas and pyre of what remained of the forest sacrificed in its creation.

"Ten tails afla, destiny hath sworn."

Upon closer look at the circle of flas around it, the peaking tongue of the embers were no more than, no less than ten.

"Through a millenia, it shall ascend,

To realms divine, where dreams transcend."

Should it beco a ten-tailed deity, this little kit was going to live a millennium and even more than that.

—This little kit is the prophesied fox who’s destined to be a ten-tailed deity.

As the foxes stood in daze, the kit stirred in its sleep, as if sensing the eyes upon itself, it let out a quiet grumble. The sound resounding in the area, the power behind it nearly forced them to their knees.

A mont later, as the kit purred, lazily it cracked open an eye. The shimring and wholly ignorant amber eyes glowed brightly.

That was it. This forced every single one of them to their knees with a loud thump.
