After Wu Lang said those words and watched Lian Shouren, Lian Shouyi leave dejectedly, Old Master Lian no longer insisted on worshipping at the archway now. Thus, they avoided the archway and walked along a side path, naturally entering through the side gate instead of the main entrance, thus entering through the cross courtyard into the main courtyard.
Once inside the front hall, they let Old Master Lian and Lady Zhou sit on the kang (a traditional Chinese heated bed), and Lian Manman’s family perford another greeting ceremony. Maid Xiao Xi brought hot tea, and everyone settled down.
Old Master Lian and Lady Zhou sat on the kang, none of the others, including Lian Manman, sat on the kang. They all found chairs to sit on.
Lian Shouxin bent his head, while Lady Zhang kept looking at Lian Shouxin with concern.
Silence, at first nobody spoke.
Old Master Lian also bent his head, seemingly concentrating as he stared at the teacup in front of him. After a while, he finally extended a hand, picked up the teacup, sipped, and imdiately began coughing violently, as if he were trying to cough out his heart and lungs.
Lian Shouxin slowly lifted his head, seeing Old Master Lian’s face turn red from coughing, his brows twitched slightly.
"Xiao Fu, Xiao Xi." Lian Manman called out towards the outside.
Servant Xiao Fu had returned with Wu Lang, had just led the mule to the cross courtyard and settled it, was outside with Maid Xiao Xi attending when he heard Lian Manman’s call and hurriedly entered the house.
