The ginger soup was too strong, even with added brown sugar, it couldn’t mask the spiciness. Still, it was much better than drinking that bitter dicine. Lian Manman almost pinched her nose as she quickly drank down a large bowl of brown sugar ginger soup while it was still hot, then was laid down by Lady Zhang and Lian Zhizhi with two thick quilts placed over her.
"Sleep for a while, sweat it out, and you’ll feel better," Lady Zhang said.
Lian Manman didn’t resist, nodded while lying in the quilt, and closed her eyes. Don’t underestimate such simple traditional thods, they are the most straightforward and effective treatnt when a cold is just beginning. Even in Lian Manman’s past life, she often received such treatnts, thus Lian Manman still had faith in them.
Not knowing how long she had slept, Lian Manman woke up feeling her breathing through her nose had beco smooth, and the tightness and weariness in her body had disappeared. The little girl herself has strong immunity, combined with effective traditional redies, treated in ti, truly just a sleep and a sweat and she’s fine.
Opening her eyes to look around, the room was empty, sunlight practically spilled through the curtains over half the kang.
It seed it was almost noon, and Lian Manman had learned to determine ti by watching the sun’s shadow. She slled a faint scent wafting in from the outer room and heard people talking quietly. Lian Manman looked at the tightly closed door, sat up, and called out "Mother."
The door almost opened in response.
First to look in was Xiao Qi.
"My sister’s awake." Xiao Qi’s face broke into a big smile, he said loudly.
Having said that, Xiao Qi ran over, leaned on the edge of the kang looking at Lian Manman with a smile. Then Lady Zhang, Lian Zhizhi, Lian Shouxin, and Wu Lang all ca in one after the other from outside.
"Manman, how are you feeling, better?"
"Sleep a bit more."
"Have another bowl of ginger soup."
"Feeling better? If not, quickly ask the doctor to prescribe dicine, drinking dicine’s faster."
The family surrounded Lian Manman, speaking one after another.
"I’m fine, completely fine, nothing at all," Lian Manman said with a smile.
Lady Zhang sat beside Lian Manman, reached out her hand, touched Lian Manman’s forehead with the back of her hand, then brought her hand back to her own forehead.
"Cool, and hearing your voice you’re fine too," Lady Zhang said.
"I told you I’m fine," said Lian Manman.
Seeing Lian Manman looking energetic, the family finally relaxed.
"Brother, Xiao Qi, why didn’t you go see the play?" Lian Manman asked curiously.
"Sister, you were sick, I didn’t go to see the play, I stayed ho to keep you company." Xiao Qi said, "Mother was afraid I’d disturb you, didn’t let stay in this room, I stayed in the other room with you here, sister."
"You’re the most well-behaved." Lian Zhizhi teased Xiao Qi, then turned and smiled at Lian Manman and said, "Because you were sick, our father and Wu Lang went to the theater to have a look and ca back. Xiao Qi, being the most well-behaved, went with our father for a look too and ca back, despite the excitent he didn’t stay."
Since it was her family hosting, setting up the stage, they had to go to socialize a bit, then return, being worried about her illness.
Lian Manman didn’t say much, but she felt warmly inside.
Seeing Lian Manman not willing to sleep more, Lian Zhizhi climbed onto the kang and lifted the curtain. Without the curtain’s obstruction, sunlight poured through the glass window, imdiately flooding in.
Lian Manman squinted her eyes slightly, the warm sunlight shone on her face, on her body, this feeling matched exactly with her inner emotions at the mont. Being just a bit chilled, everyone stayed by her side like this.
Lian Manman knew this feeling was happiness. Warm, moist.
"Have another bowl of ginger soup, I’ll go make it," Lady Zhang said again.
"Mother, don’t drink now, drink it tonight, okay?" Lian Manman quickly stopped her, "Mother, I’m a bit hungry, is there sothing to eat?"
People with a cold usually have a loss of appetite. Lian Manman said she was hungry and wanted to eat, Lady Zhang was very happy because this further proved Lian Manman had recovered.
"Outside there’s pig’s head boiling, and pig’s feet, mother will fry you two more dishes," said Lady Zhang.
"Yeah, let’s all eat together," Lian Manman nodded and said.
It happened to be lunch ti soon, Lady Zhang and Lian Zhizhi went out to arrange.
On the second day of the second month, so places have the custom of boiling pig’s head, eating pig head at. Lian Manman’s family slaughtered a pig last year, specially keeping a pig’s head to eat today.
After a short while, Lady Zhang and Lian Zhizhi with others had set the dining table in the east room, Lian Manman changed clothes and went to the east room.
Pig’s head at was naturally the main dish on the table, but of course it wasn’t an entire pig’s head put there. Pig’s head was boiled until cooked, not greasy at all, deboned, cut up then plated, served with mashed garlic, soy sauce, truly a delicious dish.
Lian Manman felt indifferent about the pig’s face, pig ears, what she loved eating was the pig’s tongue, commonly known as tongue at. And her absolute favorite to eat was the tender at behind the pig’s eye socket.
That could definitely be called the tastiest part of the pig, just too little.
When Lian Manman’s family ate pig’s head at, the at from the eye socket was always reserved for Lian Manman and Xiao Qi. Today, both pieces of at were placed in Lian Manman’s dish.
After lunch, Lady Zhao and Lian Yeye ca. It turns out this mother and daughter also knew Lian Manman was sick, ca to visit once in the morning, but Lian Manman was asleep, so they didn’t disturb her. After lunch, these two figured Lian Manman should be up, so they ca again.
Seeing Lian Manman well, Lady Zhao and Lian Yeye were happy together.
"Sister Manman, my dad went to the temple, asked the Abbot to choose a date, this month my family’s house will start construction!" Lian Yeye also brought Lian Manman good news.
