The Wu Family wants to build a new house for Lian Zhizhi’s marriage. Based on Lady Wu Wang’s intentions, they still plan for Lian Zhizhi and Wu Jiaxing to live as a couple in a two-story yard. Lady Zhang was overjoyed and didn’t worry about the trouble.
"What’s the trouble," Lady Zhang imdiately laughed and said, "If you build a two-story yard again, won’t there also be a wing room? Once it’s constructed properly, it will definitely co in handy."
As the saying goes, reciprocation leads to favors. The Wu Family wants to build a new house and a new yard for Lian Zhizhi, so Lady Zhang is willing to make additional furniture to accompany Lian Zhizhi’s dowry.
"Since you sincerely want to build a house, I won’t stop you. I know your family’s resources, they’re adequate for this. Once there’s money, it should be used to make ample hos for the children and grandchildren... How about having soone finalize the dinsions and details these days? I will invite a couple more carpenters..."
Lady Wu Wang and Lady Zhang continued their conversation with increasing joy until it was ti for lunch. As they were about to eat, Lady Zhang invited Lady Wu Wang to stay for lunch, but Lady Wu Wang did not. There’s still a lot to prepare due to the upcoming construction, so after discussing with Lady Zhang, she needed to return to discuss preparations with Wu Yugui and Wu Jiaxing.
Lady Zhang knew Lady Wu Wang had many tasks, so she didn’t insist.
Lian Shouxin and Wu Lang returned from outside, and Xiao Qi also ca back from private school. The family gathered around the table for lunch.
At the dining table, Lady Zhang talked about Lady Wu Wang’s proposal to build the house today.
Lian Zhizhi and Lian Manman already knew about it from Wu Jiayu beforehand, so they were not surprised. Only Lian Zhizhi, knowing the new house was to welco her, blushed and ate quietly, without speaking. Everyone else shared Lady Zhang’s happiness.

"Then let’s cover everything. When Lady Buhuai married into the Wang Family, the furniture and setup in those rooms were all part of the dowry," Lady Zhang said.
"Indeed, we should hire a couple more carpenters," Lian Shouxin, after taking a bite of rice, thought for a mont and continued, "Since we’re building a house, there’s definitely..."
Halfway through his words, Lian Shouxin noticed Lian Zhizhi lowering her head even further, and then he stopped talking.
It’s clear that starting the house construction promptly indicates they’re eager to welco Lian Zhizhi.
"Her aunt told about this matter," Lady Zhang continued, "We’ll hire soone to choose an auspicious day in the next couple of days. In my opinion, it should be set for the winter months, or the twelfth lunar month would be suitable too."
For farmsteads like organizing weddings or other joyful events, it’s typical to cluster these occasions in the winter months or the twelfth lunar month. Firstly, it’s because it’s a ti of year when farming activities are less demanding. Secondly, after the autumn harvest, every household’s granary is stocked with grain, leading to fewer financial constraints. Lastly, hosting celebrations during these months allows leftover food from the feast to be preserved longer, reducing waste.
Moreover, children born in the three winter months are often healthier and more resilient than those born in the sumr, as these months allow farmstead families to be both idle and well-fed.
After lunch, the children left the house, while Lian Shouxin and Lady Zhang remained seated on the heated brick bed. With the children gone, the elderly couple resud discussing Lian Zhizhi’s marriage.
"Zhizhi is seventeen this year; even if they didn’t bring it up, the marriage should occur," Lian Shouxin stated.
"I was thinking this year too. Her aunt told everything this morning. This year we’ll arrange Zhizhi and Jiaxing’s matters. Next year, we should proceed with Jiayu’s," Lady Zhang said. "Her aunt also told how the incident with Old Master scared them imnsely a while ago. Now seeing him recover, they’re relieved."
Even though there was no one else in the room, Lady Zhang subconsciously lowered her voice at this point.
"It was seeing Old Master in good health; otherwise, the building of the house might have been neglected, focusing only on arranging the children’s marriage," Lian Shouxin nodded.
"Zhizhi is truly fortunate, with blessings in her fate, rising from hardship to comfort," Lady Zhang returned to her regular tone of voice.
In the afternoon, Lian Shouxin and Wu Lang went to town with the carpenters. They stayed until dusk, returning only after having dinner at the Wu Family’s place. Before dinner, Wu Jiaxing invited Lady Zhang and her daughters to join them, but they stayed back and only let Wu Jiaxing take Xiao Qi from the private school for dinner.
Lian Shouxin drank wine at the Wu Family’s house, and his face flushed red, emitting a cheerful ambiance.
