It’s not about soone dying or passing away, but rather a life being taken. Lian Manman snapped awake, fully alert. With the curtains drawn, she couldn’t see the outside sky clearly, but judging from the weak light filtering through them, it was probably just after dawn.
Lian Zhizhi woke up earlier than Lian Manman and was already sitting up, getting dressed.

"Duo’s mother... died?" Lian Manman exclaid in surprise.
Currently, within Lian Manman’s family, naturally, they refused to address Lady Gu as the eldest uncle’s wife, only referring to her as Lian Duoduo’s mother. The rest of the family also stopped addressing Lady Gu as the wife of the main house; even though sotis they used that title in front of her, there was no respect implied at all, rather, the tone was more mocking.
It’s understandable. Lady Zhou stepping on Lady Gu was one aspect of it; the other, more significant reason was Lady Gu’s viciousness being exposed.
"Yes, miss," Xiao Xi responded.
Lady Gu actually died, and using the term ’a life was taken’ clearly indicated she didn’t die a peaceful death.
"How did she die?" Lian Manman asked, already dressed and putting on her shoes.
As Xiao Xi brought warm water to assist Lian Zhizhi and Lian Manman with washing up, she shook her head, saying she didn’t know either.

Lian Zhizhi and Lian Manman, after quickly washing up, ca out from the west room, just in ti to et Lian Shouxin and Lady Zhang, who had just finished dressing and stepped out from the east room.

"You already know?" Lian Shouxin asked, then quickly realized that the question didn’t need an answer.
"Duo’s mother... really..." Lian Manman asked.
"It should be true. Your father and I will go over to have a look; you two sisters don’t go, just stay at ho," Lady Zhang said.
Generally, when the family stepped out for business, most tis Lian Zhizhi stayed at ho to watch over the house, but Lian Manman could never sit still. With such an occurrence, expecting her to wait at ho for news was impossible.
Lian Manman instructed Xiao Xi to stay at ho with Lian Zhizhi, wrapped herself in a cloak, and followed Lian Shouxin and Lady Zhang out.
