Lian Huahua knelt down before Lady Zhang, who was quick to try and pull her up.
"Huahua, what are you doing?"
"To be honest with you, Auntie Four, the Eldest Lady of the Song Family is a person who cares greatly about face. Though she wholeheartedly approves of this marriage and has treated extrely well, if any unfavorable rumors started on our side, she would feel that she had lost face, and the marriage might beco difficult. "Why would you say such a thing?" Lady Zhang said, "Auntie Four also wishes for you to marry well, but what can I do for you?"
"I beg you, Auntie Four, just keep an ear out. If you hear anyone speaking ill about us, I’d be so thankful if you could just defend a little." Lian Huahua quickly said.
"Isn’t that a given?" Lady Zhang naturally agreed right away.
All of the children from the Fourth Household were very filial, and with Lady Zhang’s agreent, the matter was halfway settled. Of course, there was still Lian Manman.
"These items, let Manman accept them." Lian Huahua then looked at Lian Manman sowhat ingratiatingly, "Manman, please don’t belittle these modest gifts. Once I marry into the Song Family, if I co across any good things, I won’t forget you, Manman."
"Huahua, you’ve made your point, and I’ve agreed. These items you speak of are too valuable; Manman couldn’t possibly accept them, so please take them back." Lady Zhang said.
"These are sincerely ant for Manman; you must accept them." Lian Huahua remained on her knees, as if she would not stand up until Lian Manman accepted the gifts.
Left with no choice, Lady Zhang discussed it with Lian Manman.
"It’s Sister Huahua’s sincere gesture; why don’t you just accept them?" Lady Zhang said.
Lian Manman glanced at Lady Gu and Lian Huahua. The old saying goes, ’a favor received is like a slice of your independence given away.’ It seed that Lian Huahua was determined to make her accept the gifts before she could be at ease.
Lian Manman did not want Lian Huahua’s gifts. However, she knew that, with soone like Huahua, if you didn’t accept her gifts, she would think you weren’t sincerely agreeing to her requests. She would not let the matter rest and who knows what she would do behind the scenes. Better to just accept them and settle her mind for the ti being.
"Sister Huahua, you are truly giving these to , you won’t regret it, will you?" Lian Manman asked pointedly.
"Why would I regret anything I give to Manman?" Lian Huahua said with a smile.
"Gifts are not that important, what matters is the sincerity behind them..." Lian Manman said.
"We are blood-related cousins; I am of course sincere with my own family." Lian Huahua quickly added.
After so more back-and-forth, Lian Manman finally accepted the items.
Lian Huahua and Lady Gu both breathed a sigh of relief, exchanged a few more words, and then got up to leave.
"Your father and I still have a set of clothes fit to be seen in public. These two pieces of fabric, the autumn fragrance color, let’s make a jacket and a skirt for each of you sisters from it. This red one, we will make a set of clothes for Wu Lang and Xiao Qi; I’ll sew them slowly, so they can be worn by the ti the Song Family cos to welco the bride." Lady Zhang said, holding the two pieces of fabric.
"The Lady Mother-in-law sent these because she is afraid that we might not dress well enough when the ti cos, causing the Song Family to comnt. The Second and Third Households must have also sent sothing, right?" Lian Manman said.
Xiao Qi then ran off pitter-patter, and soon ca back again.
"The Second Uncle’s side sent three pieces of fabric, and the Third Uncle’s side, only one." Xiao Qi reported back to Lian Manman.
Lian Manman patted Xiao Qi’s head, "Our Xiao Qi is so clever."
Xiao Qi just laughed, "Heh heh."
"Manman, why did Huahua suddenly give you the silk flowers and bracelets? What happened?" Lady Zhang pondered for a mont before raising her head to ask Lian Manman, "Did you say sothing, or do sothing?"
Lady Zhang was not at all foolish; she sensed sothing odd, especially since Lady Gu and Lian Huahua had deliberately hinted at sothing to her earlier.
"How would I know. Well, just as I was entering earlier, I happened to et Song Fu, the Butler of the Song Family, leaving after visiting our eldest brother..." Lian Manman didn’t hold back and told Lady Zhang everything that had happened at the door.
"Mother, tell what you think, that Song Fu is the Butler of the Song Family, and Sister Huahua will marry into the family as the main wife. We, as her cousins of the sa generation, were spoken to by the eldest brother as though we were re maids or servants. He fawns over a butler from the Song Family, yet belittles us so." Lian Manman concluded.
