Is Lady Zhou really pretending to be foolish?
Lian Manman turned her head again, scrutinizing Lady Zhou. If she had suspected before coming that Lady Zhou was feigning foolishness, she was now certain that Lady Zhou was indeed pretending.
Lady Zhou’s act was very convincing, but there were still flaws. Although the flaw was fleeting, Lian Manman had already been intent on investigating, so she caught it.
When she sat down beside Lady Zhou, she felt Lady Zhou’s body tense for a mont. Imdiately, Lady Zhou made a couple of erratic arm movents to cover up this slight loss of composure.
But that was enough for Lian Manman to make the correct judgnt. Lady Zhou was ntally clear and fully conscious. Others getting close might not elicit a response, but Lian Manman was different. Lady Zhou was both resentful and wary of her, very unaccustod to Lian Manman’s approach.
Perhaps she also rembered how Lian Manman had exposed her previous feigned illnesses and fainting spells! That was quite a painful experience for Lady Zhou.
Once sure that Lady Zhou was pretending, Lian Manman felt more at ease.
There’s a saying: don’t chase a cornered criminal, but another says to strike a dog when it’s down. Given the situation, Lian Manman resolutely chose the latter.
"Grandpa, you really shouldn’t say that." Lian Manman pulled out a light yellow silk handkerchief from her sleeve and lightly dabbed the corner of her eye. "Seeing Grandma like this is painful for . "Grandpa, we’ll pay for Grandma’s treatnt, call the doctor, and get her dicine. You don’t need to worry about anything. She’s not soone else, she’s my grandma, who gave birth and raised my dad. We’ll never be able to repay her kindness in this lifeti. No matter how much it costs, we must cure her illness."
As she spoke, Lian Manman lowered her head and tightly grasped one of Lady Zhou’s hands.
"Grandma, don’t worry, I will... find soone to cure you." Lian Manman gripped Lady Zhou’s hand tightly, speaking emotionally, "You must hang in there, the days for you to enjoy yourself are still ahead."
As soon as Lian Manman grasped Lady Zhou’s hand, it was as if Lady Zhou was struck by lightning. Her eyes, which had been staring at the ceiling, suddenly fixed on Lian Manman, full of intense fear. Old Master Lian turned his gaze away, sighing deeply.
Lian Lanlan had been sitting by Lady Zhou’s side all along. Earlier, when Lady Zhou struggled furiously, Lian Lanlan comforted her with much effort and then looked at Lian Manman with a hopeful yet pitiful expression.
Since Lian Manman entered the room, Lian Lanlan hadn’t dared to speak first. She was waiting for an opportunity, either for Old Master Lian to bring up the matter of rescuing Jin Suo and her son, or for Lian Manman to inquire first. But after a long while, the conversation kept revolving around Lady Zhou.

Lian Lanlan couldn’t hold back anymore. Old Master Lian and Lian Lanlan looked at Lian Manman, their eyes brightening.
Old Master Lian was pleased; no matter the ti or whatever poor treatnt received, Lian Manman’s family always remained sincere and affectionate.
"...Understand what’s important, sensible..." Old Master Lian muttered in praise.
Lian Lanlan was delighted, more directly because there was hope that Jin Suo and her son could soon be rescued.
"However," Lian Manman sighed softly and continued, "My brother went to Prefecture City, quite far away. Before he left, he discussed with Mr. Loo about visiting so of Mr. Loo’s friends outside the area. It’s unclear where they are now. My dad, though, didn’t go as far, but this matter is complicated, and I don’t know which village he’s in. If he went into the mountains, that would be troubleso."
Lian Manman’s ’however’ was like a bucket of cold water, instantly leaving Lian Lanlan chilled to the core.
"Manman, this concerns lives..." Lian Lanlan hastily started to say,
"My mother is ill, the family already lacks people, continually sending people out without respite, we still don’t know what’s really happening. It’s easy to speak lightly about lives being at stake, isn’t it? Moreover, is your family’s issue more important than my grandma’s issue? Are the lives of your family mbers more valuable than my grandma’s?" Lian Manman imdiately turned somber, bluntly interrupting Lian Lanlan.
