Lian Manman was deep in thought when she heard Lady Gu’s heart-wrenching cries from inside the room.

"My Huahua, my poor fated Huahua..."

Lian Huahua couldn’t have just died like that, could she? Lian Manman quickly followed Lady He into the west room. On the kang bed inside, Old Master Lian and Lian Shouren were both frowning, with Lian Huahua placed at the edge, lying along the kang side. Lady Gu sat on the kang, holding Lian Huahua, while Lady Zhou sat on the kang edge, with Lian Xiuxiu and Lady Chiang standing below.

Lian Manman approached and imdiately noticed Lian Huahua’s exposed leg, her heart tightening on the spot. The pants on that leg were burned to tatters below the knee, hanging in scraps, with Lian Huahua’s originally snow-white thigh going downwards all red and raw. There were one or two spots that seed to have burns and later got scalded with boiling water, which was simply too dreadful to look at.

Lian Huahua had already co to, gritting her teeth and enduring the pain, her eyes glaring wide, the expression within them chilling to the onlooker.

"What should we do now?"

"It’s the leg, the bones should be okay, fortunately she didn’t ruin her face," Lady Zhou said, frowning.

"This... ," Lady Gu just cried.

That is also ruining one’s appearance, Lady Gu thought to herself. Lian Huahua’s marriage wasn’t to an ordinary farmstead. For ordinary tenant farrs, a wife’s looks were secondary, focusing more on whether she was kind-hearted, could work hard, and bear sons. But for a family like the Song Family, obviously the demands were much more exquisite. The main reason Song Hailong insisted on marrying Lian Huahua was her beauty.

As soone with experience, Lady Gu was very aware that it was not only the face that had to be beautiful; the body must not be marred, especially for marrying into a family like the Song Family. If Lian Huahua’s leg were left scarred, her beauty, initially a nine, would drop to a re five. How could she then catch and hold Song Hailong’s heart? And without his heart, how could she establish a foothold in the Song Family?

The more Lady Gu thought about it, the more she panicked and grieved, crying so hard she could barely catch her breath.

"How precious Lian Huahua is. If it were I who got burned this way while cooking, would my family bother calling a doctor? Wouldn’t they just scold for being clumsy?" Lady He muttered indignantly under her breath.

Lian Huahua might or might not have heard Lady He’s words, but her gaze swept over coldly. Even Lian Manman, who stood near Lady He, felt the resentnt in that look.

Just then, urgent footsteps were heard outside; Lian Jizu had called for the village’s Doctor Li.

Everyone hurriedly made room, and Lady Gu, disregarding the separation of the sexes, asked Doctor Li to sit down beside the kang to examine Lian Huahua’s burns.

"This is a scald? What’s it from?" Doctor Li frowned as he examined Lian Huahua’s burns. It was common for villagers to suffer all sorts of minor and major injuries during everyday work, but such severe burns were rare.

"It’s... boiling water," Lady Gu pleaded tearfully, "Mr. Li, I beg you, save my girl. Whatever it takes, just please don’t let scars form. My Huahua, she’s only sixteen, and she’s to marry next month... "

Doctor Li was the only doctor in the village, and in this era, there wasn’t a distinction between internal and external dicine, especially among village doctors who were generally jacks-of-all-trades. While they could manage minor ailnts, serious illnesses or burns like these, and with such specific requests, were beyond Doctor Li’s capabilities.

"I’m afraid I don’t know how to treat your Huahua’s injury," Doctor Li said, "I normally prepare so ointnts for burns and cuts, mostly for the village elders. They are good for relieving pain and stopping bleeding, but I can’t manage to prevent scarring. Maybe you should go to Jisheng Hall in the town. I’ve heard they have special ointnts for scalds, certainly much better than mine."

"Please, at least relieve Huahua’s pain for now," Lian Xiuxiu suddenly interjected.

Lian Manman glanced at Lian Xiuxiu; it seed she truly cared for Lian Huahua. That incident hadn’t affected their relationship after all.

"Yes, yes, first alleviate Huahua’s pain," Lady Gu also urgently said.

Doctor Li nodded, quickly wrote out a prescription, and handed it to Lian Shouren.

Now that the injured Huahua had awakened, and he could not fulfill the request to leave no scars, Doctor Li felt there was nothing more he could do. After writing the prescription, he stood up, took his leave, and departed.

"We never should have called for him, what can a village doctor possibly cure?" Lady Gu beca sowhat anxious, and turning to the head of the kang bed, she said, "Then don’t just stand there, hurry to town to get the dicine and buy the ointnt back."

"Jizu, you go quickly, your sister’s fate is all in your hands now," Lian Shouren then instructed Lian Jizu.

Lady Chiang’s brow furrowed slightly, her eyes swept over the faces in the room, but in the end, she said nothing.

"Alright," Lian Jizu agreed with a sigh, and was about to leave.

"You as her father, can’t you make the trip? Not just to buy the ointnt, but to bring another doctor here, yes, bring Imperial Doctor Wang," pleaded Lady Gu, grasping Huahua’s hand, her tears never ceasing.

"Fine, I’ll go," Lian Shouren then stood up from the kang.

"Dad," Huahua suddenly spoke up.

After awaking, Huahua had looked at the wound on her leg and hadn’t spoken a word since, just biting her lip tightly. Suddenly speaking now, no one knew what she was going to say.

"Dad, go ask for Imperial Doctor Shi," Huahua said to Lian Shouren, "the Imperial Doctor Shi who treated Fourth Auntie’s illness."

"Right," Huahua’s words reminded Lady Gu, "Ask for Imperial Doctor Shi; wasn’t he from the palace? He has served the Empress Dowager and the imperial concubines, he must surely have effective prescriptions that will prevent scars on Huahua’s leg. Old Master, this is not just about Huahua’s life; no matter what, we must ask Imperial Doctor Shi to co."

"Dad, your daughter begs you, please must bring Imperial Doctor Shi," Huahua pleaded with tears.
