"... I heard they were having dinner with the Wu Family, discussing Miss Zhizhi’s marriage, so they didn’t let the front yard people report. They’ve returned long ago, saying they will co back tomorrow." Xiao Qing replied.
"... His third uncle is soone of status. They didn’t co earlier probably because they saw there were many guests at ho. They chose to co in the evening, thinking there were no guests, but ended up coincidentally catching us discussing the marriage of Jiaxing and Zhizhi." Lady Zhang said.
"... Did they leave any ssage?" Lian Shouxin asked Xiao Qing.
"No ssage was left." Xiao Qing answered.
"Then it’s nothing major. I guess they just ca to know we’re back, and to congratulate us." Lian Shouxin thought for a mont, then said.
Lian Shouli lived nearby, and wouldn’t just co over for sothing special. The two families frequently visited each other, neither as guests nor rare visitors. The family set the matter aside and went back to their rooms to rest.
The next day, after the family got up and had breakfast, it was reported that Lian Shouli, Lady Zhao, and Lian Yeye had arrived.
"I’ll go to the front to have a chat with Third Uncle. Let Yeye and her mother go to the backyard." Lian Shouxin said.
Lady Zhang naturally nodded.
Lian Shouxin went out in his casual clothes, and shortly after, Lady Zhao and Lian Yeye ca in from outside. Everyone greeted each other, exchanged a few words, and Lady Zhang invited Lady Zhao and Lian Yeye to sit on the kang, chatting over hot tea.

"Take it, it’s proper etiquette." Lady Zhang said, "Yeye is a good child, unlike Manman and Xiao Qi who specifically ask for red envelopes and won’t take no for an answer."
Lian Manman laughed beside them.
"Yeye, quickly take it. We’ve all got one." Lian Manman nudged Lian Yeye, encouraging her to accept the red envelope promptly.
Seeing the situation, Lian Yeye blushed and happily took the red envelope.
Lady Zhao and Lian Yeye started asking Lady Zhang about Wu Lang’s trip to the capital, and the family’s affairs in the Prefecture City. Lady Zhang didn’t hide anything and explained everything in detail, leaving Lady Zhao and Lian Yeye envious, repeatedly comnting that Lady Zhang was fortunate and Wu Lang was successful.
"By the way, you ca last night. Why didn’t you let anyone inform us and just left?" Lady Zhang asked about last night’s event.
"We co often, and there wasn’t anything major. When we heard you were busy, we went back." Lady Zhao answered honestly.
"There weren’t any outsiders last night, just Jiaxing’s family, discussing the marriage and banquet arrangents for Jiaxing and Zhizhi. You shouldn’t have stood on ceremony. Your timing would have been perfect to help us calculate." Lady Zhang said.
"As for calculations and such, we may not be able to help much. Fourth Aunt, since my Sister Zhizhi is getting married, if there’s anything to be done, or if you need soone to run errands, just say the word." Lian Yeye said, "My parents and I have already agreed that during the wedding, we won’t sit at the banquet, and we’ll be helping out."
Lady Zhang wasn’t planning to have them work, rather, she intended to place them at the main table; however, she didn’t reveal this plan at the mont, only smiling and nodding. After all, the notion from Lian Yeye’s family was pleasing.
After chatting a bit more about Lian Zhizhi, Lian Manman asked Lian Yeye if anything had happened at ho during their absence.
"Nothing much, just the usual." Lian Yeye told Lian Manman, "Just that everyone is thrilled knowing Wu Lang t the Emperor, and both Fourth Uncle and Fourth Aunt beca officials. So people even ca to our house to find out more. We’ve been receiving so reflected glory, with more people coming to my father for furniture orders."
Lian Yeye laughed as she spoke of this.
"That’s a good thing. But it still depends on Third Uncle’s excellent craftsmanship." Lian Manman laughed too.
"Anything happening at the other side of the old house?" Lian Manman lowered her voice a bit and asked Lian Yeye.
"Sister Manman, I was just about to tell you." Lian Yeye said, "Just upon learning of this, our grandpa called my father over. I went along. Grandpa even shed tears, saying Fourth Uncle is bringing honor to the family. Grandpa asked Grandma to make a couple of dishes, had my father stay for a al, and they even had a few drinks together."
"Oh." Lian Manman responded, seemingly in thought, "That’s our grandpa, but what about the others?"
"Grandma didn’t say anything, just the sa as before, with a stern face. I heard her secretly asking the eldest sister-in-law if Fourth Aunt really beca an official." Lian Yeye responded.
Lian Manman glanced at Lady Zhang and couldn’t help but smile.
Lady Zhang remained silent, her expression quite composed, yet it was clear she was very interested in the topic between Lian Manman and Lian Yeye.
"The eldest sister-in-law surely replied yes, right?" Lian Manman said.
"Yes." Lian Yeye nodded and laughed along, "Fourth Aunt, Sister Manman, you should have seen this. When the eldest sister-in-law said Fourth Aunt indeed beca an official, the old lady’s face was sothing to behold."
"Did the old lady say anything, did she curse ?" Lady Zhang asked.
"I didn’t hear her curse." Lian Yeye answered, "She just seed very unconvinced, constantly saying that Fourth Aunt was riding on Fourth Uncle’s coattails. She also said..."
At this point, Lian Yeye stuck out her tongue and suddenly stopped speaking.
