"Happy, happy," Old Master Lian hurriedly said.
"Grandpa, let’s talk inside the house, it’s cold outside, don’t let you two get cold," Wu Lang suggested.
"Alright, alright, let’s talk inside, everyone head inside," Old Master Lian agreed with a smile, and a large group of people then headed towards the courtyard.
Once in the Upper Room, everyone took their seats, Old Master Lian and Lady Zhou still sat on the kang, Lian Shouxin and Wu Lang sat on chairs on the floor, Lady Zhang, Lian Zhizhi, and Lian Manman sat on the edge of the kang, and Xiao Qi looked around before squeezing in with a cheerful smile to sit next to Lian Manman.
The room was obviously just tidied up; the watermarks from wiping the cabinet hadn’t entirely dried, and the kang was warr than usual. Observing the Old Lian Family, looking at Lian Shouxin’s family, they seed to be sowhat cautious.
"...We planned to co yesterday, but there were so many things to do, ti dragged on, and it was already dark so we didn’t co over, worrying we’d disturb your sleep..." Lian Shouxin and Wu Lang began to explain.
"It’s alright, we’re family, and you have important matters to handle," Old Master Lian was very understanding.
"Grandpa and Grandma, how have you both been lately?" Wu Lang, who had recently returned from a trip, specifically asked after Old Master Lian and Lady Zhou.
"Good, we are doing very well. Wu Lang, you seem to have grown taller. Wu Lang is promising," Old Master Lian praised while inquiring about Wu Lang’s experiences in the capital and asked in great detail about the Emperor summoning Wu Lang.
Wu Lang patiently answered all the questions.
"Wu Lang has brought honor to our Old Lian Family, which is such a blessing. It’s like smoke rising from the family ancestral grave, sothing we wouldn’t even dare dream of," said Old Master Lian, trembling with excitent. "Old Fourth getting this official position fulfills my lifelong wish. This calls for a big celebration."
As Old Master Lian spoke, he asked Lady Zhou to take out money to buy wine and at and organize a banquet for everyone to celebrate together.
"Dad, don’t rush just yet," Lian Shouxin promptly stopped him. "We actually have sothing to discuss with you first."
"Grandpa, we’re happy in our hearts, and that’s enough. As for celebrating, we should refrain," Wu Lang comnted. "We are grateful for the Emperor’s great benevolence, so living honestly and responsibly is the right way."
"Dad, after getting this position, I haven’t slept well recently," Lian Shouxin earnestly told Old Master Lian, "Not out of happiness, but out of worry. I’ve been thinking about what happened in Taicang these days."
As soon as Lian Shouxin finished speaking, many in the room, including Old Master Lian and Lian Shouren, turned pale.
"Old Fourth, that’s all in the past. Everyone’s here to share in your happiness, so let’s not bring that up," Old Master Lian said.
"Dad, you don’t understand what I an," Lian Shouxin replied. "I’m not trying to revisit old issues; I’m just thinking we shouldn’t repeat past mistakes."
"Yes, we can’t repeat past mistakes," Wu Lang agreed.
"...The idea of one person achieving success and everyone else benefiting doesn’t work for us. My official position doesn’t carry much real power, but tenant farrs value it highly because we are straightforward and timid with my position. But we ourselves mustn’t overestimate our worth. What we were like before, we must continue to live honestly."
"Dad, let make this clear from the start. No matter who it is, no one can use my na to act arrogantly or take any advantage of others. Nobody can think that because I got this position, everyone else can do anything they want. That won’t do. Whether it’s our ho or the old family ho, our family discipline must be strict, stricter than before."
Lian Shouxin spoke with strong conviction.
Old Master Lian was montarily stunned before nodding.
"...In the next few days, we will draw up a family rule for us to follow. The old family ho doesn’t have to follow ours exactly. We separated long ago, but so rules cannot be broken all the sa," Wu Lang added.
"As for the old family ho, there are national laws and village rules. If anyone uses my official title to do anything unscrupulous, I will deal with it. The rules on this matter will be stricter than national laws and village rules," Lian Shouxin further stated.
Lian Shouxin and Wu Lang’s words left the mbers of the Old Lian Family looking at each other in dismay. They understood that while Wu Lang had achieved success and Lian Shouxin beca an official, they wouldn’t be able to benefit from it. Instead, they would face stricter constraints.
