"...After all, they are children raised in the village. Even if they’re a bit mischievous, they won’t go too far." Lian Shouxin sighed as he said this.
"That’s true." Lady Zhang nodded in agreent.
Lian Manman listened quietly, not saying anything for a mont. To so extent, Lian Shouxin and Lady Zhang weren’t wrong. Comparatively, the village environnt was much more straightforward than the county town. Children from tenant farming families, imrsed in the family atmosphere and exposed to a simpler environnt from a young age, faced fewer temptations and were more likely to develop an honest and straightforward nature.
However, the Lian Family’s situation was sowhat different. Especially...
"Dad, Mom, haven’t you forgotten that Si Lang and the others stayed in Taicang for quite so ti?" Lian Manman thought to herself, but couldn’t help saying it aloud, "They weren’t farming in the village when they were in Taicang."
Lian Manman didn’t say much, just made her point.
Lady Zhang opened her mouth, then closed it again. Lian Shouxin also remained silent, his expression a bit gloomy. How could he forget what Lian Manman ntioned? Precisely because he hadn’t forgotten, he was worried.
"Dad, don’t worry too much about this." Wu Lang advised, "Didn’t we just agree with Shopkeeper Chiang to keep a close eye on things? If it doesn’t work out, they could just co ho."
As long as they returned to Thirty Mile Camp, no one from the old house would cause any major trouble.
"That’s all we can do." Lian Shouxin nodded.
The family chatted a bit more before they each returned to their rooms to rest. The night passed without incident, and the next morning the family had breakfast and started their busy day. First, there were matters at Shenyi Pawnshop, drawing up docunts, transferring ownership, and exchanging silver. Then they took a trip to the Shunde Store branch. During this ti, batches of cotton cloth, cotton, sheepskin, needles, and thread that they had purchased were being delivered, which needed people to tally, load onto carts, and so forth.
Since they took over the Shenyi Pawnshop, Wu Lang booked two tables at Lian’s Restaurant that noon. He invited the forr owners of Shenyi Pawnshop, the broker, the docunt writer, the governnt officials from the Yan, and the adjacent shopkeepers of Shenyi Pawnshop.
By the ti everything was handled, it was already late in the afternoon. The family quickly packed up, preparing to return to Thirty Mile Camp. Lady Zhang and Lian Manman were packing up inside when soone outside reported that Si Lang had arrived.
"Let him in." Lian Shouxin said from the outer room.
After the family returned to the county town, Si Lang heard the news and ca to visit, giving his regards to Lian Shouxin and Lady Zhang, which was only natural.
"If that’s all, then it shows he’s sensible." Inside, Lady Zhang spoke softly to Lian Manman while packing.
"We’ll find out soon enough if that’s the case." Lian Manman replied.
Lady Zhang handed the task she was working on to Lian Manman and went to sit in the outer room. Before long, soone led Si Lang in. As Si Lang entered, he gave a respectful greeting to Lian Shouxin and Lady Zhang.
"It’s been a few days since we last saw each other. How have Fourth Uncle and Fourth Aunt been?" Si Lang greeted with a smile while bowing.
"Your aunt and I are doing quite well." Lian Shouxin said, "Have a seat and let’s talk."
Originally, when they were in the village, Si Lang never greeted them, so seeing him do so now brought so happiness to Lian Shouxin, feeling that Si Lang had grown up and beco promising. He thought this and said it aloud.
"You’ve grown promising." Lian Shouxin remarked while looking Si Lang over, "It seems you’ve grown a bit taller... Kids really do need to venture out and gain experience."
Lady Zhang also observed Si Lang. He was wearing the sa set of clothes as yesterday. Indeed, clothes make the man; the children of the Lian Family were good-looking to begin with, and wearing this nicely made new outfit, Si Lang appeared to be a smart young man.
"This outfit looks nicely made. Who made it for you?" Lady Zhang asked.
"My mother made it." Si Lang replied from his chair.
"Ah, your mother’s sewing skills have improved." Lady Zhang remarked.
"...When did you start working in the city? How’s work at the shop? Are you used to living there? I heard that the shop usually doesn’t let people stay over; you’re being given special treatnt. Si Lang, you need to keep that in mind, appreciate their kindness. Besides that, just work diligently and do more tasks..." Lian Shouxin asked while advising.
"Yes, yes," Si Lang responded repeatedly.
"It’s work ti, isn’t it? Is coming here affecting your tasks at the shop?" Lian Shouxin continued to ask.
"Fourth Uncle, I asked for a leave from the shopkeeper." Si Lang replied.
"Right, now that you’re working at soone else’s shop, if you have to leave for any reason, you must inform them. You should only leave when they allow it. You need to follow managent when working for soone." Lian Shouxin explained.
Lian Manman listened clearly from inside, only shaking her head with a smile. She could guess so of what Lian Shouxin was thinking. It’s simply that he cares for his nephew, knowing that Lian Shouyi and Lady He are unreliable, and with Old Master Lian growing old and probably unable to teach Si Lang much, he wanted to be thorough in his advice the mont he saw him.
Lian Shouxin’s earnest intentions, she hoped, would not be in vain, and more so not disliked, thought Lian Manman.
"Fourth Uncle, I’ve taken two days off." Si Lang said to Lian Shouxin from the outer room.
"Ah, two days? Why take two days off?" Lian Shouxin asked in surprise.
