Lian Shouxin paced back and forth on the ground twice before he ca to a stop.
"Let’s all calm down, it’s just that he had a bit of horse piss and lost track of his words. Just like Wu Lang said, his plans are futile!"
Lian Shouxin was angry too, but he still wanted to placate everyone. Old Master Lian and Lady Zhou were already anxious and upset over Zhao Xiue’s matter. Lian Shouxin wanted to suppress this incident to avoid giving the elderly couple more trouble and fueling the fire.
"Dad, they say truth cos out when you’re drunk. I think when we’ve heard sothing, we can’t just pretend we haven’t," Lian Manman reflected and then said. Lian Shouyi’s words revealed his intentions. If they didn’t nip his plans in the bud early on, his greed would only grow, and that would surely lead to trouble later on.
So people won’t be grateful if you step back; they’ll think you can be pushed further. While Old Master Lian was still healthy, sensible, and able to restrain Lian Shouyi, they had to make things clear.
"This does need to be discussed properly," Lady Zhang nodded in agreent.
The family discussed for a while and then got up to head to the old house.
On the way, Lian Yeye kept her head down, lost in thought, until at last, she ran up to Lian Manman.
"Sister Manman, what are we going to do in the future? My dad and mom are so honest, and I’m just a girl..."
"Yeye, if you don’t want to be bullied in the future, you need to take a stand today," Lian Manman told Lian Yeye.
Back at the old house, Lian Shouyi, Lian Shouli, Erlang, and Sanlang had just returned from work. Lian Yeye and Lady Zhao sought out Lian Shouli, and a group of them headed for the Upper Room.
Because of Zhao Xiue’s demand for a division of the family, Old Master Lian had blisters on his mouth from frustration, and Lady Zhou was also showing a worried face.
"What’s the matter?" Old Master Lian, seeing the odd expression on the faces of Lian Shouxin and Lian Shouli and that both families had assembled, asked.
"Dad, there is an issue. You’ve heard what second brother said outside, haven’t you?" Lian Shouxin said.
The corners of Old Master Lian’s mouth twitched involuntarily.
"That damned fool, he’s just spouting nonsense; don’t take it to heart!" Old Master Lian raised his hand and cursed.
"Grandpa, you might not have heard everything," Lian Manman said, "Dad, tell Grandpa what you heard."
"Hmm," Lian Shouxin nodded, and then recounted to Old Master Lian all of Lian Shouyi’s drunken words, especially the part about dividing the property.
"Grandpa," Lian Yeye cried after listening, "Third Uncle wants to take our house. I’m not counted as a person, but what about my dad and mom? Where will my dad and mom go to live? My parents have no son; they can still work and make money for the family, are they not considered people? What if my parents get old, won’t they just be thrown on Nanshan? What’s the point of my parents’ hard work now, just to be thrown out? What’s the point of us three living, just let my second uncle kill us with a knife, we’ll clear out the house for him now."
"Go call your second brother over!" Old Master Lian’s head was steaming with rage, and he motioned to Lian Xiuxiu.
Lian Xiuxiu went out and soon brought Lian Shouyi over.
"Dad, what happened?" Lian Shouyi, guessing sothing, didn’t dare move closer to Old Master Lian as he entered.
"You damned fool, instead of working properly, you’ve been scheming against your own family all day!" Old Master Lian cursed Lian Shouyi, again recounted what Lian Shouxin had reported hearing, and asked if those were indeed Lian Shouyi’s words.
"Dad, I was drunk that day," Lian Shouyi first tried to explain, and then completely denied it, "those were rumors spread by others, I definitely never said those words."
"Without wind, there won’t be waves. Old Second, let tell you today, the house in town, what I say goes, it must be sold. No one should get any ideas about it.
"Old Fourth left when he divided from the family and was at a disadvantage; you should be thinking of compensating Old Fourth, not eyeing Old Fourth Family’s house, so put that thought to rest!
"And as for Old Three’s family, that’s your own brother; I’m still counting on you to look after him. They have just Yeye, a girl for now, but there might be issues in the future. You also should not covet that house."
Having said so much in one breath, Old Master Lian began coughing.
"Grandpa, my parents can work now, but given how Second Uncle behaves, can we really count on him to look after my parents in the future?" Lian Yeye beca anxious upon hearing Old Master Lian’s words, which seed to convey that without a son, there was no house.
Old Master Lian was also worried. Lian Shouyi and Lady Zhao had only one daughter and needed the more fertile Lian Shouyi’s branch to watch over them. There was also the concern about who would care for them in old age. Old Master Lian had plans for this, but due to deep-seated hopes that Lian Shouyi and Lady Zhao were not too old and might still have a son, he found it hard to settle matters now. So he kept his words ambiguous.
"Just kill us three now and vacate the house for you," Lian Yeye launched herself into Lian Shouyi’s arms.
"You little wench, how dare you talk back to !" Not taking Lian Yeye seriously, Lian Shouyi grabbed her hair and flung her aside.
Lian Yeye, enraged, clung to Lian Shouyi’s arm and bit down hard on his wrist.
Lian Shouyi yowled in pain.
"They don’t see us mother and daughter as people; what’s the point of us living?" Lady Zhao cried and rushed over to help Lian Yeye. She was gentle and only tried to pry Lian Shouyi’s hand from Yeye’s hair; had it been soone else, they would have surely left Lian Shouyi’s face scratched and bloody.
"I’m not a person; I’m not a man!" Lian Shouli, who had been sitting quietly at the side, suddenly let out a harrowing wail, reminiscent of a dying beast, despairing and in pain.
That Lian Shouli didn’t lunge at Lian Shouyi but instead thumped to his knees on the ground. He began to kowtow resoundingly, his direction unclear to anyone.
At this, everyone around was taken aback.
