"Yes." Lady Zhang nodded.
"Mom, this year we should get more chickens and ducks." Lian Manman said.
"Definitely." Lady Zhang replied, "We have plenty of space here, and enough bran for them to eat. I’m planning to add fifty chickens and fifty ducks."
"That’s a good idea." Lian Manman agreed.
"Mom, shouldn’t we also raise so geese?" Xiao Qi, his mouth greasy from eating, looked up from his bowl and asked.
In Lian Manman’s mory, geese were quite remarkable creatures. She rembered from her past life, when she was little, the geese at her grandma’s house were very fierce, they could guard the house and had once chased and bitten her. Those were adult geese, and their long necks made them taller than she was at the ti.
"Yeah, mom, let’s raise so geese this year." Lian Manman thought for a mont and said. Geese are large, and their eggs are huge, one goose egg is worth three chicken eggs.
"Geese are not easy to buy." Lady Zhang said. Around Thirty Mile Camp, raising chickens and ducks was common, but few families raised geese or sold goslings.
"Mom, my classmate’s family has geese. He told they kept goose eggs and plan to hatch goslings in the spring." Xiao Qi quickly added.
"Mom, didn’t you say one of our hens seems to want to brood? You planned to hatch chicks, so why don’t we just buy goose eggs and hatch them together?" Lian Manman suggested.
"That sounds fine." Lady Zhang nodded in agreent.
"Da Liangzi’s Wife has been doing a great job these past few months. Shall we keep her on as a regular worker at our place?" Lady Zhang suddenly rembered sothing else and discussed it with the family.
"She’s diligent and clean. Let’s keep her." Lian Manman thought for a mont and said. Over the past few months, she had observed with a keen eye that Da Liangzi’s Wife was a person of good character who never shirked work and was attentive and not talkative.
"I was thinking, since we’re adding so many pigs, chickens, and ducks, shouldn’t we give Da Liangzi’s Wife a bit of a raise?" Lady Zhang suggested.
"Mom, did you ask her if she’s willing to do those tasks and if she can handle them?" Lian Manman asked.
"I ntioned it to her, and she’s quite willing. She was worried we might hire soone else and not her." Lady Zhang said.
"Then when we get the piglets, we’ll give her a raise." Lian Manman nodded. Previously, she only needed to light the fire and help feed a few dozen chickens and ducks. Now with more work, it was only right to raise her pay. Besides, Da Liangzi’s Wife was a really good worker, and to keep her working with peace of mind, the raise was necessary.
After the al, the family had agreed on several matters.
Ti flew by, and before they knew it, the fifteenth day of the first lunar month had passed. Even though the first month hadn’t officially ended, in the eyes of the tenant farrs, the New Year celebrations were considered over. This also signified the true beginning of a busy new year.

After breakfast this day, Lian Manman went to Lian’s Shop. The shop was bustling with business, and Lian Manman entered directly into the kitchen from the back door. The kitchen staff were bustling with activity and greeted her with smiles as she arrived.
Lian Manman smiled and nodded, then walked over to the blackboard for a closer look.
Lian’s Breakfast Shop still used the traditional way of recording sales. Each type of food had tally marks beneath it to track the sales numbers.
In Lian’s Breakfast Shop, the three-flour stead buns were now divided into two types: the original version, and the one with added cornal. Currently, the three-flour stead buns with cornal were becoming increasingly popular. It’s not just that people liked trying sothing new; the addition of cornal made the buns softer and tastier.
Because of these cornal buns, Lian’s Breakfast Shop had attracted more custors, naturally increasing daily inco.
After checking the blackboard, Lian Manman went into the room, climbed onto the kang bed, and began reviewing the account book. She hadn’t been sitting for long when Da Hua, with its tail upright, walked in from the outer room, jumped lightly onto the kang, walked up to Lian Manman, owed at her twice, and then lay down beside her thigh.
Lian Manman lifted her hand and stroked the fur on Da Hua’s back.
The current Da Hua could no longer be called a kitten; it had grown significantly. The litter box that was specially prepared for it was no longer needed. According to Lian Shouxin, the shop was now very clean, and there wasn’t even a trace of a mouse. Xiao Qi had also told Lian Manman that he once saw Da Hua catch a mouse.
With three als of various soups a day, shrimp skins or small fish mixed with rice, plus mice as snacks, Da Hua was now a very well-fed cat.
Da Hua was very capable, but the household was too large; they needed to consider getting another cat, Lian Manman thought as she petted Da Hua.
After looking at the account book for a while, Lian Manman left the shop, wandered around the front and backyards, checked the trees planted last year, and inspected the riverbank they’ve built. She even crossed the small river and walked around the opposite bank before slowly returning.
Just as she reached the side of the shop, she saw Chunzhu’s Wife running from the village entrance.
Lian Manman was curious about why Chunzhu’s Wife seed in such a hurry, but Chunzhu’s Wife had already spotted her.
"Manman." Chunzhu’s Wife waved at Lian Manman as she ran over from across the main road.
"Aunt Chunzhu, what happened?" Lian Manman walked over to ask.
"Manman, your grandmother has returned." Chunzhu’s Wife panted and said.
