"I..." Lian Jizu glanced at Lady Zhou, then at Lian Lanlan, and finally at Lian Shouxin and the others, stamring without being able to say a word.

Lian Manman chuckled inwardly; Lady Zhou must understand what’s going on, right? Earlier, she threw propriety out the window, cursing Lian Shouli and Lian Shouxin, and shouting to the neighbors at the door. It was because she felt insecure—she was afraid. Lady Zhou knew that Lian Jizu had left her, abandoned. Clearly, she also knew that Lian Lanlan wasn’t dependable. She had no other options but to try to manipulate Lian Shouli and Lian Shouxin to survive.

But these two sons had already left everything behind, and now she wanted to trap them using mindless pestering.

Classic Lady Zhou style.

"Old Fourth, mom told how much she misses you. Old Fourth, co sit next to mom, get cozy with her. It’s been almost half a year since you last saw each other, right?" Lian Lanlan said with a smile, sitting beside Lady Zhou.

No wonder Lady Gu was willing to go to great lengths to pull Lian Lanlan into her fold. Lian Lanlan, with her position and personality, was the perfect buffer and lubricant for conflict.

"Mom... what’s going on here?" Lian Shouxin sat on the stool, slightly raising himself before sitting back down.

"...Your dad, that old bastard, he... lost his conscience... married a younger one..." Lady Zhou suddenly broke down crying. Unlike the dry wailing she had been doing earlier in the outer room, this ti she was genuinely sobbing, tears flowing freely.

"...While I was out visiting Xiuxiu, not ho, he brought so young widow onto the bed..." Lady Zhou cursed, rambling through her sobs.

Lian Lanlan coughed lightly twice, pulling out a handkerchief to fake wiping her face. anwhile, Lian Jizu lowered his head, and Lian Shouxin’s face turned red with embarrassnt.

"That... that can’t be. Jizu didn’t say it was like that." Lian Shouxin stamred awkwardly, "Jizu, didn’t you say it was just a misunderstanding? That the person ca out of your grandpa’s room or sothing."

"What did you say?" Lady Zhou wiped her nose, lifted her eyelids, and asked Lian Jizu.

"Oh..." Lian Jizu stamred again, unable to give a coherent explanation.

"What misunderstanding? Do you think I’m blind?" Lady Zhou grew furious. "When I went inside, that old bastard was pulling up his pants..."

The scandalous escapades of Old Master Lian, especially described so crudely by Lady Zhou, made the younger won in the family either bow their heads or turn their faces away, unable to hide their discomfort.

"...That had to be a coincidence. The old master... there’s really nothing between them." Lian Jizu muttered quietly.

"Nothing? Nothing, yet he said he’d make ands to that widow? Nothing, yet he forced to co back here?" Lady Zhou said harshly.

"Weren’t those just words thrown around in the mont?" Lian Jizu replied.

"Words thrown around? That old bastard has a wandering heart. He’s done with , this old hag... He’s a disgrace, with sores on his head and pus leaking from his feet..." Lady Zhou started cursing viciously again.

Lian Manman sat there, ignoring Lady Zhou’s tirades, lost in thought.

According to Lian Jizu, the affair between Old Master Lian and Aunt Ping was just a misunderstanding, a case exaggerated by Lady Zhou into sothing appearing real. But Lady Zhou’s details were so vivid that it seed there might truly be sothing unspeakable between Old Master Lian and Aunt Ping.

What really was the truth?

Lian Manman thought it over and realized she cared too much. Whatever the truth was, it ultimately had no bearing on her. What was crystal clear was how foolishly Lady Zhou handled the situation. Even if Old Master Lian and Aunt Ping truly had sothing going on, Lady Zhou shouldn’t have made such a public fuss. By causing such a scene, Aunt Ping was effectively left with no way out.

Aunt Ping didn’t even have a servitude contract binding her; Lady Zhou had simply invited trouble upon herself.

All she needed to do was endure temporarily, then find an excuse later to send Aunt Ping away. At ho, Lady Zhou could settle accounts with Old Master Lian as she pleased.

But Lady Zhou had not only raised hell—she went all out, driving Aunt Ping into a dead end while also forcing Old Master Lian into a corner. Her impulsive outburst brought her a "rival" for her troubles.

And afterward, Lady Zhou angrily retreated to Thirty Mile Camp—a move that was beyond foolish and entirely uncharacteristic of her. Typically, when she started a fight, she wouldn’t quit until she won—it was never her nature to back down. Retreating, especially after losing, was absolutely out of the question.

As for threatening to go ho, Lady Zhou might genuinely say that, but it didn’t an she actually wanted to leave—it was rely a threat.

This ti, however, her threat not only failed to make others yield but actually prompted them to take the opportunity to send her away from Taicang for good.

Lian Manman could almost envision the scene at that ti—Lady Zhou shouting that she wanted to leave, Old Master Lian in a fit of anger responding, "Go if you want to go!" And then, not a single person intervened to stop her; instead, soone quickly prepared carriages and horses for her departure. Before Lady Zhou could regain her footing, she was packed up and sent off.

Thinking of this, Lian Manman couldn’t help but suppress a smile.

Lady Zhou sat on the kang bed, cursing for ages before finally falling silent. She seed exhausted—after all, she was getting older and had traveled quite a distance.

"This kang is as cold as ice! Are you all trying to freeze to death?" Lady Zhou snapped bitterly, her nose scrunched and her face sour.

She still couldn’t speak decently, with every word biting at others. Of course, Lady Zhou’s way of speaking varied depending on her audience—when dealing with the third and fourth households, she was naturally accustod to being harsh.

After all, these two families were softhearted and indulged her whims.

"Brother Jizu, didn’t you hear Grandma? Hurry up and heat the kang for her. Grandpa, my uncle, and my aunt sent you over for this—to take care of Grandma." Lian Manman imdiately ordered Lian Jizu.
