Regarding the question about giving the MC a tail—
My main idea was to make the MC a more complete big cat. Sabertooth tigers naturally have a weakness in speed—they can only reach around 48 km/h, which is slow compared to modern big cats. They're built more like tanks and rely on ambush rather than speed.
Since the MC is ant to be an improved version, I gave him more speed. The tail helps with balance, especially during sharp turns and high-speed movent, making his combat and hunting more effective.
If this explanation still doesn't work for you, that's fine. No story is perfect, and I'm still learning as I go.
