“Master, what’s the big idea?” Little Blue asked curiously.
“Making money, of course!” Yaeger replied with a smile.
“Making money is great!” To Little Blue, money ant more delicious things to eat. The more Yaeger earned, the better her als would be.
“At the current odds, betting ten million on myself would only net forty million in profit. While that’s not a small amount, when it cos to money, the more the better,” Yaeger said as she turned to Little Blue and continued:
“The way they’ve set the odds shows they’re fairly confident in Lucky’s strength, but still have a lot of doubt about mine. After all, they only have my early battle records to analyze. There’s not much useful data in those. They’re lacking more comprehensive reference material. If we provide that to them… What do you think? Wouldn’t they adjust the odds?”
Little Blue blinked her big, adorable eyes. “Master, are you saying we should deliberately appear weak to get them to raise the payout odds?”
“Exactly,” Yaeger nodded.
“The problem is, there’s not much ti left before the duel. That doesn’t give us a lot of room to maneuver,” said Little Blue.
“It’s not that difficult, actually. Think about it…who would the betting syndicate turn to for intelligence related to ?”
“Vera!” Little Blue replied imdiately.
“Exactly. All we need to do is discreetly leak so intel from the Ability Managent Departnt. Vera will pick it up and then resell it at a high price,” Yaeger said with a smile.
“No problem at all. But Master, is there anything in the Ability Managent Departnt’s files that could make people underestimate your strength?” Little Blue asked, puzzled.
“There is. Back when I was at the Rosen Hotel, Ronald showed up and ca after . Given the situation at the ti, I opted for a tactical retreat,” Yaeger said, then added with a subtle smirk, “But I’m guessing the official report doesn’t put it quite that way.”
If she had gone all out back then, she could’ve taken down that Old Man Tian.
“Let take a look!” Little Blue perked up with interest and effortlessly accessed the departnt’s database, as if she were opening her own front door.
Sure enough, she found the report in question.
“Ugh! Shaless! They actually wrote that Old Man Tian beat you back!” she huffed after reading it.
“Heh. That’s exactly what we need,” Yaeger replied calmly. “Now go make sure Vera ‘happens’ to discover it.”
“On it!” Little Blue nodded and began moving her small hands through the air.
anwhile, on a small island overseas, inside a luxurious villa… Vera stretched lazily as she glanced at the large screen on the wall.
Lately, she had been absolutely swamped with work. With Vera 1, 2, 3, 17, and 18 all gone, her workload had skyrocketed. She was buried in so much data processing that she felt like puking every day.
“So tired… Damn you, Ronald! When I finally get a break, I’m going to skin you alive back in Cathay!”
In her mind, all her current suffering was Ronald’s fault. Her hatred for the old man was growing by the day.
Ding-dong!
Suddenly, a high-priority alert popped up on the screen.
“Oho? Looks like my little crawler picked up sothing juicy. Let have a look.” She tapped the keyboard, and a new window opened on the screen, displaying the intercepted intel.
“Well, well… A classified ssage from the Roc City Ability Managent Departnt to Yanjing. Sorry to say, no matter how much you encrypt it, it’s no match for Vera!” She cheerfully typed away, breaking the encryption in under fifteen seconds. “Whew, this is so spicy intel.”
She carefully read the report sent by ‘Xina’ to ‘Lisa’ in Yanjing. As she read, a delighted smile spread across her face. “Heh. So that damned Princess is good at bluffing, huh? Turns out her real strength isn’t even on par with that frail old Ronald!”
Then again, it made sense. For soone just stepping into the Grandmaster realm, beating Ronald would’ve been an absurd outco.
“No matter how withered he is, a cal is still bigger than a horse. Old Man Tian’s still a seasoned Grandmaster.” Vera reined in her amusent and started calculating the intel’s value.
Not long after, she sold the information for a hefty price.
“Hehehe, this money was just too easy to earn.” After finishing the transaction, Vera lay back on her bed in utter satisfaction, basking in delight. Unbeknownst to her, her starfish-like sprawl on the mattress was being broadcast live.
“This girl’s kind of clueless, huh,” Little Blue said with a laugh.
“She just doesn’t know you exist,” Yaeger chuckled as well.
“Obviously! I’m miles ahead of her in terms of skill,” Little Blue declared proudly.
“Now we just wait for the odds to climb.”
“Mm! I’ll keep watch non-stop! By the way, how much is Master planning to bet?” Little Blue asked with curiosity.
“Naturally, we’re going all in.” Yaeger pulled out her phone and checked the balances on two of her accounts. There were still forty million left.
“That much? If it multiplies five or six tis, we could buy so much delicious food!” Little Blue said excitedly.
“You and your bottomless stomach.” Yaeger pinched her soft, rosy cheeks.
“Heehee!” Little Blue giggled mischievously, brimming with cuteness.
Letting go of her, Yaeger pulled out her phone again. As she checked the ga’s update progress, she said, “When the odds hit one to seven, place the full bet.”
“Got it!” Little Blue raised her hands high, smiling like an overjoyed child.
Yaeger sat on the bed, bowed her head, and browsed the ga’s official website.
There was a countdown tir displayed prominently. There were thirty minutes left until the servers reopened. At that mont, countless people were glued to the countdown, and just as many were fervently discussing it. The online community was in a frenzy.
Most voices were full of curiosity, but there was no shortage of anger either. So players had been re monts away from completing a quest or finally slaying a monster they had been battling for hours…Only to be forcibly logged out at the last second, suffering severe losses.
On the official site, the comnts section was being flooded by raging complaints. The volu of profanities being hurled was practically an eyesore. Yet the developers gave no response. The website might as well have been unmanned.
Yaeger closed the browser and slowly lay down, choosing to use the remaining thirty minutes for a brief rest. She no longer had much interest in what the outside world was up to.
Unlike Yaeger, however, the major factions had already sprung into action. One high-level eting after another was being held in rapid succession. They took the first-ever ga update extrely seriously.
Ti slipped by, and the thirty minutes ended quickly. The first official update of the ga had concluded.
“It’s ti to head back in and see what’s changed.” Yaeger closed her eyes, preparing to log into the ga.
Just then, Little Blue suddenly exclaid, “Master! The odds hit one to seven!” Her voice was brimming with unconcealed excitent.
“Place it all. I’ll treat you all to a feast tomorrow night.” Yaeger smiled.
“Yay!” Little Blue clenched her tiny fists, her eyes sparkling with delight.
Without delay, she used a set of forged high-society identities to place the full wager. After completing the transaction, she happily skipped out of the room.
Yaeger closed her eyes once more and re-entered the ga.
