Kang Li shook her head lightly and said, "Even though a husband and wife are one, they’re still two separate individuals. Comrade Wen Siyuan got into the research institute on his own rits.
Luo Yanqing was sitting in the passenger seat. Hearing what Kang Li said, a low chuckle would escape his throat from ti to ti.
By the ti they got back to the manor, it was already nearing eleven-thirty.
Following their usual al schedule, after lunch, Kang Li and Luo Yanqing accompanied Captain Kang and Cai Xiufen for a walk in the garden. As they chatted, Cai Xiufen started talking about how booming the hot pot restaurant run by Big Brother Kang and Elder sister-in-law Kang was.
Then she unconsciously thought of what Elder sister-in-law Kang had ntioned on the phone a few days ago, so she couldn’t help asking Luo Yanqing, "A few days ago when Ruirui and the others called, your sister-in-law also chatted with for a bit on the phone. Catching the aning Kang Li was sending, and seeing his father-in-law and mother-in-law both looking straight at him, Luo Yanqing realized there was no way to hide it. He could only recount how that night Su Man and Wen Siyuan had gotten into a fight and dragged Kang Li into it. At the end, his eyes were completely cold. "Since his wife dared to slander your reputation, I could only get justice for you through him!"
"How co Comrade Wen’s wife is such a mad dog?!"
When Cai Xiufen heard Luo Yanqing say that Su Man had slandered Kang Li, her face instantly darkened. She even thought that if she’d been there that night, she would’ve torn Su Man’s mouth to shreds.

Cai Xiufen looked delighted. "Your sister-in-law has always been feisty and fiercely protective of her own. Whether it was back when she was a girl or after she married into our village, she’s never let herself get the short end of the stick."
"I’ll pick out a nice gift for Sis-in-law next ti."
A smile filled Kang Li’s brows and eyes as she said, "I honestly don’t get it. Ever since I moved into the compound, that Comrade Su seems like she’s got nothing better to do than target . I really don’t know if I dug up her family’s ancestral grave or did sothing else to her, to make her latch onto like this and never let go. If you didn’t know better, you’d probably think she was madly in love with !"
"What are you talking about?"
Cai Xiufen asked, face tense.
"Nothing, I didn’t say anything!"
Seeing Cai Xiufen narrow her eyes, Kang Li got flustered and slipped into dialect.
Captain Kang shook his head rather helplessly.
Luo Yanqing was holding back his laughter so hard it hurt. He couldn’t help clenching his fist to cover his mouth and coughing twice to keep himself from laughing out loud.
Shooting Kang Li a look that said "Just listen to yourself trying to talk your way out of it," Cai Xiufen folded her arms and waited for Kang Li to go on. Catching the aning in her eyes, Kang Li gave a sheepish grin. "Mom, I was just talking nonsense. It doesn’t really an anything."
Cai Xiufen: "Do you or do you not realize you’re a girl?"
Kang Li nodded like a pecking chick.
Cai Xiufen: "If you know, then why are you talking nonsense?! What do you an, ’madly in love with you’? If soone else heard that, who knows what they’d say about you behind your back."
"You’re right to scold , Mom. I promise from now on I’ll watch my mouth."
She made a little motion at her lips as if zipping them shut, being all kinds of obedient.
"Keep clowning around, why don’t you!"
Looking at Kang Li’s little act, Cai Xiufen felt both amused and helpless. Then she said, "I really don’t know why that Comrade Su insists on kicking up such a fuss, fussing so much that even when Comrade Wen brought up divorce she still wouldn’t rein herself in. If one day Comrade Wen really hardens his heart and goes through with the divorce paperwork, I’m afraid her life won’t be so easy after that."
