What’s more, today is a joyous day, and with the ample preparation of ingredients, each banquet table abounded with dishes, including five at courses.
Relatives and fellow villagers seated at the tables were eating their fill, with grease lining their mouths, praising Captain Kang for knowing how to treat people well and boasting about him having a fine son-in-law.
In keeping with tradition, once the dishes were almost finished, Kang Li and Luo Yanqing, led by Big Uncle Kang and his wife, went from table to table, toasting the guests.
Owing to the tight space in the courtyard, there were eight tables; thus, it was Captain Kang who decided to set up the banquet outside in the village lane. This naturally attracted onlookers who stood at a distance, drawn in by the aroma wafting from the tables, almost each of them swallowing their saliva involuntarily.
Envious of those who were seated and eating.
Xu Chunxia stood among the crowd of onlookers, staring straight at Kang Li and Luo Yanqing. She harbored intense resentnt towards Kang Li’s good fortune, deeply feeling that Luo Yanqing was a thousand, no, ten thousand tis better than Zhou Weimin.
Yet such an outstanding man was Kang Libao’s husband!
How unjust the heavens were, why did Kang Libao have such good luck?
Hatred nearly spilled from Xu Chunxia’s eyes as she clenched her fists at her sides, the pain from her fingernails piercing her palms failing to snap her out of her emotional state.
"Third Sister... Third Sister, could it be that ’ti’ of the month for you?" Xu Chuni stood beside Xu Chunxia and suddenly caught a faint whiff of blood from her older sister, causing her to ask softly.
Xu Chunxia did not respond for quite so ti.
Realizing sothing was amiss, Xu Chuni grabbed Xu Chunxia’s left arm and pulled her out of the crowd.
On the way ho, Xu Chunxia ca to her senses and asked Xu Chuni, "What are you doing?" Hearing this, Xu Chuni looked slightly displeased, "I should be the one asking what you’re doing, Third Sister! You know well what the Team Leader’s House is up to today, why go and cast a shadow over it?"
With a grim expression, Xu Chunxia retorted, "How have I cast a shadow?"
"When I was pulling you out of the crowd, the resentnt in your eyes was about to overflow. And look at your palm."
Upon noticing the blood threading from Xu Chunxia’s clenched fist, Xu Chuni realized she had guessed wrong. It wasn’t that her sister’s monthly visitor had arrived, but that her fingernails had broken the skin of her palm, and that was the source of the bloody scent.
"Mind your own business!"
Having co to her senses, Xu Chunxia was aware of the cuts in her palm. At that mont, she t Xu Chuni’s eyes: "From now on, stop ddling in my affairs!"
Xu Chuni said, "Third Sister, you’re harboring resentnt towards Sister Li Bao." It wasn’t a question, but a statent. Without waiting for Xu Chunxia to make a sound, Xu Chuni continued, "But why resent Sister Li Bao? She owes you nothing and has done no wrong to you. Tell , on what grounds do you bear resentnt towards Sister Li Bao?"
Xu Chunxia said, "Why do you think?"
Both were country girls, so why was Kang Libao’s fate better than hers? She not only had loving parents and brothers but also ended up marrying a man who was a thousand, no, ten thousand tis better than Zhou Weimin after being forcefully broken off from an engagent. Today, they were even holding a grand banquet. Wasn’t this a display of flamboyance to soone?
"You’re jealous of Sister Li Bao!"
As soon as Xu Chuni uttered these words, Xu Chunxia grabbed her arm, forcing them to halt their steps. "What do you an by that?" Xu Chunxia asked in anger.
As the two sisters locked eyes, Xu Chunxia, filled with outrage, said, "Jealous of Kang Libao? Which of your eyes saw that?"
"Third Sister, it’s not just who sees the jealousy in your eyes." Xu Chuni freed her hand and continued on her way ho.
