Chapter 108

Duke Laurent

I look at the pictures.

Of my beautiful rose.

I want to tear them apart, claw them to ribbons but they are so beautiful.

Even when he is not alone, when that... other man is beside him the beauty remains.

That is the infuriating part.

And this is not even the bastard alpha from the report.

Another one.

Another face in far too many pictures, always near my rose.

Always touching what isn’t his.

Impressive, really.

Despite photography being hardly a real art, this photographer...I hate him, yet I must admit , he understands light.

He caught my rose soft. Warm.

A different essence of my rose.

These photographs... they show sothing different: Not my rose behind crystal glass, but so sunflower bright, glowing, simple.

Still beautiful, of course.

But not my rose.

Not the delicate, exquisite bloom ant to be protected, pedestaled, admired.

This... thing in the photos is bright.

Smiling.

Like a sunflower.

Sunflowers are fine.

Lovely, even.

But they are ordinary, my rose is not ordinary he is perfect.

A rose is rare.

This is why I kept him safe.A re mont outside, and already soone touched him.

Soone bred him.

I pick up a small photo, my rose holding a child.

His hair long, cascading like red silk.

He always cut it short when I asked him to grow it.

But for this stranger, he grows it beautifully.

My fingers curl around the photo.

I crumple it gently ,not enough to ruin the image, only to punish it.

I find another picture, a perfect one, he is alone here, his crimson threads, blowing in the wind, his golden eyes sparkling.

I slide the photograph into my coat.

Mine to keep.

A piece of him, until I retrieve the rest.

***

Duke Sebastian

So this is where he hid.

All this ti.

I look around, expression tight with distaste.

Pathetic.

He traded marble halls for sand.

For all that it’s worth, this house shows the bastard atleast had so finances.

I walk the kitchen slowly, tracing where his fingertips once were.

The drawers he opened.

The counters he leaned against.

Roses and wine.

His pheremones.

He spent much ti here — cooking, perhaps.

Then underneath it , another scent.

An alpha’s pheromones.

Bold. Confident. Territorial, even.

Disgusting.

I open the fridge.

Baby bottles.

I stare.

A child. I forgot about that.

So the bastard forced him to carry a child.

How predictable.

How vulgar.

It stings a little — the thought of another leaving their mark.

Yet... convenient.

If I take the child first, Ciel will co crawling faster than he did the day I first bought him.

Tighter leash, stronger bond.

A perfect solution.

And he will cry.

He always cried so prettily.

I shut the fridge door. Hard.

***

Duke Marius

I open a door and imdiately shut it, it was so full of alpha pheromones.

I close my eyes,inhale once.

I move to the next door.

A crib.

I shut it harder.

A child. I can’t believe a bastard, bred him.

Of course.

However precious he is, he is still an oga, always so willing to be mounted by any alpha.

Too easily touched by hands that do not know how to hold fine porcelain.

I should have expected this.

The world ruins beauty the mont it is allowed to roam.

This is why I wanted him kept apart.

Hidden.

Protected.

People don’t know how to treat art.

You admire it behind glass.

You don’t smudge it with your dirty fingerprints.

Even used, fortunately he is still exquisite.

A slightly bruised rose is still fragrant.

Still superior.

I open another door.

And I stop.

His scent.Thick, sweet, pure.

And beneath it , that alpha’s odor, faint as a stain.

Unacceptable.

I step inside what must be his room.

Sheets neatly tucked, toy on the floor, sunlight dusting the air.

His nest.

My pulse calms despite myself.

He made a ho here.

He tried.

He pretended he didn’t miss my walls, my security, my gaze.

I touch the headboard.

Warm, faintly.

I go to the closet.

The clothes are laughable, cheap fabrics in dull colors, bargain scraps, course material.

Dressing him like this...humiliating him in such diocrity.

My nose curls.

He deserves silk.

Cashre.

Clothes stitched with respect, not factory dust.

No matter. I close the door gently.

Soon, I will correct this mistake.

He will be returned to where beauty is worshipped properly.

Back behind the glass.

Where precious things belong.

***

Duke Richard

I stand in the living room.

High ceilings.

Glass walls opening to the ocean.

Sunlight spilling over polished floors.

Is this what he wanted?

A house by the ocean? He could have had all of this and more if he had simply asked .

There is nothing I wouldn’t offer him.

Gold, islands, armies, the world itself if he pointed to it.

All I ever wanted was to keep him safe.

Why won’t he see that?

The world is dangerous.

People take advantage.

People get ideas.

People touch what does not belong to them.

My fingers flex once, slow, restrained as I breathe through it.

He called it stifling.Maybe.

But everything I did was to protect him.

He is too lovely, too innocent, he doesn’t understand what lurks outside the walls I built around him.

He is not here.

I take a slow look around.

Child’s toy by the sofa.

A blanket folded with tender hands.

He bore a child.

My jaw tightens. That was why I didn’t let him roam.

One slip into the wrong hands and the world tries to claim what’s mine.

I am not pleased.

But I have seen the reports — the child does not resemble the other alpha much at all. If at all.

Besides, if the child does not interfere, he may stay.

I am not heartless.

When I retrieve Ciel ,he may even have more children, if that is what he desires.

Ours this ti.

But he cannot leave again.

Not ever.

I will make certain he understands that.

Firmly.

Gently.

Irrevocably.

He belongs where he is safe.

With .

A loud sound of tal against wood resounds, I turn to the source.

"I wasn’t expecting company."
