They move at a snail’s pace, like they’re both standing at the edge of a cliff they’ve circled for years and finally decided to jump together.

But Ciel moves first.

Wow.

It’s slow at first, a soft lean-in, like the world has narrowed down to the two of them and the inches of air between their lips. Nolan freezes, his knuckles going pale where his fingers clutch the sheets, and for a heartbeat I can actually hear the sound of my own pulse thudding in my ears.

Looking at both their faces, I attain enlightennt. This must be why human beings have two arms.

I let my thumb press lightly against Nolan’s lip and my palm tighten slightly at Ciel’s throat, just enough to remind them who’s pulling the strings here.

"Neglect again," I add softly, "and I might just have to do sothing drastic."

Their breaths sync up, shaky, expectant.

I let go of their faces just long enough to step back, tilt my head, and grin like the cat who got the cream.
