Yang Qiu followed the customary etiquette in greeting Mr. Guo and Mrs. Guo. She stood beside Xiaotian, her head slightly bowed.
Mrs. Guo glanced at Yang Qiu and nodded slightly. Although the girl had a strong rural accent, she was well-mannered. Her heart felt a bit more satisfied. She said, "Well, don’t be so reserved, have a seat."
"Thank you, Mr. Guo, Mrs. Guo." Yang Qiu again perford the customary etiquette, then sat down next to Xiaotian.
Mrs. Guo gave a look to the little maid, who then served them tea.
Yang Qiu, sitting there, slightly raised her head, allowing Mr. and Mrs. Guo to clearly see her features.
Mrs. Guo couldn’t help but exclaim, "Looks alike, really alike, so much alike."
Yang Qiu just sat there, smiling slightly. She was quite proud of her appearance now because if she and her sister didn’t look alike, her sister’s identity might not have been confird.
Seeing his mother’s reaction, Guo Feng chid in, "At first glance, it feels very similar, but after looking for a while, it doesn’t seem the sa."
"No matter how you see it, there’s still a resemblance," Mrs. Guo chuckled, then looked at Yang Qiu, asking, "Your na is Yang Qiu, right?"
"Yes, Mrs. Guo, I’m Yang Qiu."
Mrs. Guo nodded and continued, "I’ve heard about you and Xiaotian being sisters. I never expected you could find each other after all these years. It’s really a cause for celebration."
"Thank you, Mrs. Guo." Yang Qiu’s face remained smiling, and to this mont, she still felt like she was dreaming.
Xiaotian’s face was also adorned with a smile. She shared the sa feeling as Yang Qiu, both sisters’ faces bead with happy smiles.
After the polite exchanges, Mrs. Guo inquired further, "Miss Yang, where is your ho, and who are the family mbers there?"
"My ho is in Yang Family Village, Shibao Town, Shanshi County. Both my parents are still alive. I have four older brothers, three of whom are married. The eldest brother has two children, the second brother has one, and the third brother has one." Yang Qiu answered truthfully.
Upon hearing this, Mrs. Guo’s brow furrowed noticeably. It was exactly as she suspected; Xiaotian’s relatives were indeed from the countryside. When they bought Xiaotian from a human trafficker, she speculated that Xiaotian’s family background wasn’t good. It was only poor rural families who couldn’t make ends et that would sell their daughters. She couldn’t possibly be the daughter of a wealthy family.
While they accepted Xiaotian as their daughter-in-law, the Guo family was, after all, a wealthy household, and Mrs. Guo couldn’t completely conceal her reservations about her in-law’s status. She even felt a bit regretful, thinking it would be perfect if the families were more evenly matched.
Despite her inner thoughts, Mrs. Guo didn’t show it on the surface. After all, she was from a distinguished family and maintained the proper etiquette.
However, Yang Qiu noticed Mrs. Guo’s slight frown with her sharp eyes.
Yang Qiu’s smile faded instantly, and her heart thumped. She wondered why Mrs. Guo wasn’t pleased. She didn’t think she’d said anything inappropriate or done anything impolite.
As she was pondering, she heard Mrs. Guo continue, "You’ve got a big family. Do you rely solely on farming for a living?"
This question from Mrs. Guo made Yang Qiu realize with a jolt. Was it because their family were farrs that Mrs. Guo was unhappy?
Could being farrs bring sha to her sister?
After all, her sister married into a wealthy family now!
But then she thought, even though they are farrs, their life isn’t bad now.
