The al was quite enjoyable, and after eating, Yang Dong went to work in the fields for Yang Xiaocui’s family.
He ca back ho for lunch today for a reason—he was totally pissed off by Aunt Lan Hua.
Last night, he clearly delivered a full pot of food to Aunt Lan Hua’s house, with plenty of fish and at.
But what happened? At noon today, when Yang Xiaocui brought them lunch in the fields, it was still just watery soup with cornbread.
He’s supposed to be Aunt Lan Hua’s son-in-law, right? Shouldn’t the food be better to show him so respect since he’s helping their family?
But Aunt Lan Hua’s family really treats him like a workhorse, showing him no regard at all.
Clearly, they received so many betrothal gifts and money from selling hazelnuts.
He understands that their family isn’t doing well, and they may not want to spend that Silver. He gets it.
However, he definitely sent so much food yesterday; any other family would have saved those to feed their son-in-law later. But Aunt Lan Hua’s family? Not even a drop of oil for him.
He’s beginning to doubt whether he was drunk yesterday and forgot to send the food.
Seeing that miserable al, he got angry and refused to eat, telling Aunt Lan Hua he had so business at ho and left, not expecting that there were guests at ho—including that girl he mistakenly knocked on the door of yesterday.
Not only did he learn the girl’s na, but he also chatted with her for a bit.
Before he knew it, the afternoon slipped by, and he still needed to help with work at Aunt Lan Hua’s fields. He really didn’t want to go, and for so reason, he felt reluctant to talk to Yang Xiaocui either.
These past few days, Yang Xiaocui has been trying to chat with him, seeming genuinely concerned about him, and he was aware of that.
But he still felt uneasy. He thought it must be because he was being forced into marriage. Either way, it was very awkward.
Anyway, since they’re engaged, just leave it be for now. After all, it’s still a long way until the wedding. Maybe, over ti, he won’t mind the forced marriage anymore.
Regardless, Yang Xiaocui is a good girl.
Still, he doesn’t want to help Aunt Lan Hua with work anymore. He needs to think of a plan.
With this thought in mind, he headed to Aunt Lan Hua’s fields, and on the way, he overheard people talking about that swampy land of their family, saying they saw Uncle Wu with so people heading there, maybe to deal with the land again.
He suddenly had an idea. During yesterday’s al, he heard that Third Sister-in-law wanted to dig a small fish pond. His own family has a lot of work left undone; he can’t keep helping Aunt Lan Hua’s family. Their work is almost done anyway, just a few days left, and they don’t really need him.
So when he got to the fields, he said, "Aunt Lan Hua, I won’t be coming tomorrow."
"What? Why not?"
"Aunt Lan Hua, your field is almost done. My family still has a lot of work. There’s still work to do by the fish pond, so I need to go back ho to work. But I’ll leave the cart here for you. Just send it back to my family when you’re done."
Yang Dong didn’t speak too harshly as he still wanted to save face for Aunt Lan Hua, given that she’s his future mother-in-law.
Aunt Lan Hua wasn’t happy at first, but upon hearing Yang Dong say he would leave the cart, she thought it over. With just a few days of work left and having the cart, they didn’t really need Yang Dong, so she agreed.
Yang Dong finally didn’t have to help Yang Xiaocui’s family with farm work anymore.
