But by so unfortunate stroke of luck, their son slept soundly, while she alone worried for two whole hours.
Xiaoxiao thought, it would be great if their son could be this cooperative during their escape tomorrow.
Xiaoxiao hugged Yang Ming and started inquiring about the night exploration, "Honey, how did it go? Is the village road easy to navigate? Are there any dead ends?"
Yang Ming brushed his wife’s hair with his hand and replied, "Mm, I’ve scoped it out. Luckily I went. The village isn’t big, but the roads twist and turn, mostly leading to dead ends. Only a few roads lead to the village entrance."
Yang Ming paused and continued, "If you’re unfamiliar, you could easily get lost. I’ve also scoped out most of the houses; we need to avoid the ones with dogs tomorrow. Unless there’s an unforeseen event, we should be able to make it out smoothly."
"Mm." Hearing Yang Ming’s words, Xiaoxiao felt relieved. She tightened her grip on Yang Ming’s arm, feeling a deep sense of gratitude.
"Honey, after you left, I was really scared, so afraid sothing would happen to you, afraid the villagers would catch you."
"Alright, I ca back safely, didn’t I?" Yang Ming comforted his wife, feeling warm inside.
"Darling, I can’t live without you." Those were the words Xiaoxiao most wanted to say at that mont. She’s always been that kind of person, daring to love and hate, saying whatever’s on her mind.
"Mm." How could he feel differently? He thought the luckiest thing in his life was having his wife sent to him from a far-off place by fate.
"I can’t live without you either."
Yang Ming knew this night exploration had scared his wife, so he didn’t ntion the encounter with the suspicious person.
"Wife, sleep quickly. It’ll be dawn soon, and tomorrow we have a lot to prepare for. We’ll be busy."
"Mm."
Xiaoxiao agreed, and Yang Ming’s safe return relaxed her completely. Soon, she fell asleep in Yang Ming’s arms.
Listening to his wife’s steady breathing, Yang Ming closed his eyes and fell asleep.
The night was very quiet, and everyone in the courtyard was sound asleep, except for one person who remained awake.
That person was none other than the strange man who inexplicably appeared in Anding Village.
He was awake entirely because of Yang Ming; the sound of Yang Ming’s footsteps returning to the courtyard had woken him.
This man had a quirk; if he woke up once he fell asleep, he couldn’t fall back asleep. So he had to lie on the kang with his eyes closed to rest.
Suddenly, a ow outside his window, a sound only he could hear.
He opened his eyes, a gleam of clarity flashing in his deep gaze.
He suddenly spoke, "Co in."
The newcor, hearing his command, quietly pushed the door open and whispered, "Boss, everyone’s here to pick you up."
The strange man sat up, a slight smile at the corner of his mouth, "No need. You all go back."
"Boss, if we don’t pick you up, how will you leave?" The newcor was puzzled. Word was the villagers wanted to burn the Boss; this village was extrely dangerous.
"You shouldn’t worry about that. I won’t be going back for now."
"..."
Seeing the newcor not moving, he continued, "Why aren’t you leaving? Waiting to be discovered at dawn? Do you want to be burned?"
"Then, Boss, take care of yourself." The newcor finished speaking and quietly left; the Boss’s words were not to be disobeyed.
After the person left, the strange man lay back down, continuing to rest with his eyes closed; he wasn’t ready to leave just yet.
