The next morning, Sera’s legal advisors arrived with draft alliance docunts.

Elara, Duke Romian, and Helena spent three hours reviewing every clause, every condition, every potential loophole.

The agreent was remarkably straightforward:

ALLIANCE AGREENT BETWEEN THIRD PRINCESS Sera BLACKWOOD AND FOURTH PRINCESS ELARA BLACKWOOD

SECTION 1: MUTUAL OBJECTIVES

- Both parties commit to eliminating all other succession candidates through legal, political, or military ans

- Resources are pooled for coordinated attacks on mutual enemies

- Intelligence is shared between both parties without reservation

- Military forces are coordinated to prevent friendly fire

SECTION 2: RESOURCE ALLOCATION

- Elara retains control of Port Crestfall operations and beast knight forces

- Sera retains control of intelligence networks and rcenary contracts

- Comrcial revenue from Elara’s operations: 60% Elara, 40% alliance fund

- Intelligence services from Sera’s networks: shared equally between both parties

SECTION 3: DECISION MAKING

- Major strategic decisions require agreent from both parties

- Either party can veto operations that conflict with core values

- Disputes are diated by neutral third party (Duke Romian designated)

SECTION 4: REFORM COMMITNTS

- Beast knight liberation remains Elara’s domain—Sera supports but doesn’t direct

- Civilian rights reforms remain Sera’s domain—Elara supports but doesn’t direct

- Both parties commit to implenting both reform packages if either becos Empress

SECTION 5: FINAL SUCCESSION

- After all other candidates are eliminated, both parties compete fairly for throne

- Competition is non-violent: political maneuvering, public support, imperial evaluation only

- Loser accepts winner’s succession and receives significant position in new governnt

- Winner implents both parties’ reform agendas as committed

SECTION 6: BETRAYAL CLAUSES

- Violation of this agreent releases the other party from all obligations

- Evidence of assassination attempts against alliance partner = imdiate dissolution

- Either party can terminate alliance with 30 days written notice

SECTION 7: DURATION

- Agreent remains in force until one party becos Empress or both parties agree to dissolve

- Minimum duration: 6 months from signing

- Cannot be dissolved during active military operations against mutual enemies

"It’s comprehensive," Duke Romian said. "Almost too comprehensive. Like she anticipated every possible point of failure."

"That’s because she’s been planning this for months," Elara said. "Sera doesn’t improvise. This docunt represents long-term strategic preparation."

"Which makes it more trustworthy or less?"

"More. Improvised agreents have gaps. Planned agreents have infrastructure." Elara signed her na at the bottom. "Helena, I need you to verify Sera’s intentions before she signs."

Helena nodded. "I’ll need to be present when she reviews the docunt. Her emotional resonance while reading each clause will tell if she’s genuinely committed or planning betrayal."

An hour later, Sera arrived with her own advisors.

She read through the entire docunt carefully, Helena standing nearby, sensing.

When Sera finished, she looked up. "This is acceptable. Very thorough. Your legal work is impressive, Duke Romian."

"Thank you. But before we finalize, Helena needs to verify your commitnt."

"Of course." Sera stood and faced Helena directly. "Ask whatever you need."

Helena extended her hand, focusing. "Third Princess Sera, do you genuinely intend to honor this alliance agreent?"

"Yes."

"Truth," Helena confird. "The resonance is clear. She ans it."

"Do you plan to betray Fourth Princess Elara at any point during this alliance?"

"Not unless she betrays first."

"Truth. Conditional honesty, but the condition is reasonable."

"Do you genuinely want to reform the empire’s systems—civilian rights, governance improvents—or is that just rhetoric?"

Sera’s expression flickered. "I genuinely want reform. This empire is broken. Corrupt. Inefficient. I’ve spent five years planning how to fix it. Elara is the first person I’ve t who actually understands systems thinking enough to help implent those changes."

"Truth. Strong conviction behind that statent." Helena looked at Elara. "She’s being honest. About everything. The alliance, the reforms, the commitnt to fair competition afterward. I don’t detect deception."

Elara nodded. "Then I accept the agreent as written."

Sera signed.

Duke Romian witnessed.

Helena witnessed.

The alliance was official.

"So," Sera said, sitting back. "We’re partners now. That’s going to take so adjustnt."

"Agreed. We’ve been competitors for six months. Shifting to cooperation will require conscious effort." Elara pulled out her strategic maps. "But we start imdiately. You ntioned evidence about Eleana’s involvent in Second Princess’s death. I want to see it."

Sera pulled out a sealed folder. "Complete docuntation. Witness testimony, magical analysis of the ’accident’ scene, financial records showing Eleana paid the servant who sabotaged Second Princess’s carriage. Everything you need to reopen the investigation and destroy her credibility."

Elara reviewed the docunts. They were thorough. Damning. If presented properly, they would completely eliminate Eleana from succession consideration.

"This is good work. Why didn’t you use it before?"

"Because Second Princess’s death benefited . One less competitor. But now, with the First Consort arrested and Eleana weakened, the strategic value of eliminating her completely outweighs the benefit of keeping this evidence hidden." Sera leaned forward. "We present this to the Emperor, request formal investigation, and watch Eleana’s faction crumble. Then we move on to the younger sisters—they’ll fall in line once they see what happens to people who oppose us."

"What about military threats? Baron Veltri, Count Hadrian, and Viscount Marrs attacked Port Crestfall. They need to be dealt with."

"Already being handled. My rcenaries are pursuing Veltri’s retreating forces. Duke Romian’s military is en route to secure Port Crestfall permanently. And I have agents investigating who ordered the attack—probably Eleana, but we’ll confirm before retaliating."

Duke Romian spoke up. "If we’re moving this quickly—eliminating Eleana, consolidating power, purging hostile nobles—we need to be careful about overreach. The Emperor won’t tolerate outright civil war between his daughters."

"The Emperor is dealing with the First Consort’s arrest and Lin i murder investigation," Sera said. "He’s distracted. This is the perfect ti to move decisively."

"Or the perfect ti to get caught and punished," Duke Romian countered. "His Majesty is old, but he’s not stupid. If you two start a war in the shadows, he’ll notice and intervene."

Elara considered. "Duke Romian is right. We need to move quickly but legally. Use official channels where possible. Make our actions look like legitimate governance rather than power grabbing."

"Agreed," Sera said. "The investigation into Second Princess’s death should go through proper imperial justice system. That makes it legitimate. And the military response to Port Crestfall’s siege is defensive action—also legitimate. We’re just very efficiently pursuing legal redies."

"Exactly."

They spent the next two hours planning in detail:

Week 1: Present evidence about Second Princess’s death to Emperor. Request formal investigation. Let imperial justice system handle Eleana.

Week 2: While Eleana is under investigation, approach younger sisters with alliance offers. Show them that opposing Elara and Sera is futile, but supporting them is rewarding.

Week 3: Eliminate hostile nobles who attacked Port Crestfall. Legal charges where possible, political destruction where necessary, exile as last resort.

Week 4: Begin preliminary preparations for beast knight liberation and civilian reforms. Start building popular support before formal announcents.

Months 2-4: Consolidate power, eliminate remaining minor threats, position for final succession decision.

Month 5-6: Final competition between Elara and Sera for imperial throne. Non-violent. Political. Winner takes succession, loser gets significant advisory position.

"This is aggressive tiline," Duke Romian observed. "You’re trying to control the entire empire within six months."

"If we don’t move quickly, soone else will," Sera said. "Power vacuums get filled. We’re just making sure it’s filled by us rather than soone worse."

"The Emperor might have sothing to say about that."
