The North Atlantic.
Inside a magus's workshop, located in a crevice of spaceti, a young man stared at the reddish, bubbling liquid in the flask in his hand, while using his other hand to jot down notes on a piece of paper. His red eyes carefully observed the changes in the liquid.
Around him, piles of discarded manuscript paper were stacked high. Even on the lab bench behind him, there lay the misshapen corpse of a creature that he hadn't had ti to clean up yet—the very picture of a standard magus at work.
However, the youth was not just a magus, but also a Dead Apostle.
Similarly, this place was not his workshop, but a hideout acquired through an exchange.
Just as the youth was concentrating, about to add a magical ingredient to the flask, a violent explosion, accompanied by a tremor, ca from outside the workshop, forcing him to stop his actions.
"They're here..."
As if he had long foreseen this, the youth sighed softly. Listening to the continuous and approaching explosions from behind, he put down the flask and turned his head.
And at the very mont he turned back, the laboratory door, which had been reinforced and sealed with countless spells, was torn apart from the outside as if it were thin paper.
In the rolling smoke, the youth only saw countless chains appear as if from nowhere and pierce directly through his body.
Imdiately after, he found his vision turning upside down. In his crimson eyes, he could only see a golden figure in a white dress.
Good thing I already moved the research data...
A head tumbled through the air a few tis before falling to the ground. The youth's life was ended in a matter of seconds.
And that golden figure, from beginning to end, never truly let its gaze rest on the youth. After ending his life, as if sensing sothing else, it smashed through the workshop at a speed that transcended common sense and disappeared over the sea.
The night was like water, with only the faint light of the moon visible in the sky, making the mountains and fields, already far from the city, seem exceptionally quiet.
At the Aozaki household, after enjoying dinner with Aoko and reviewing so Braille, Aozaki Rin went to take a bath.
As for Aoko, she was currently reviewing her schoolwork. Her delicate, fine brows would knit together from ti to ti, then relax, as she wrote and drew in her notebook.
Although she was allowed to stay ho from school for safety reasons, giving her plenty of free ti, Aoko had no intention of just letting herself go.
After all, she was planning to go live in the bustling city of Tokyo in the future and had no desire to spend her whole life in a small, pastoral town like Misaki.
To achieve this, she first had to maintain her grades, and she also needed enough money to support herself living in Tokyo.
Of course, regarding the money problem, Aoko had long been slowly saving up from her part-ti jobs. She imagined that after she graduated from middle school and settled down a bit, she would move to Tokyo together with Aozaki Rin.
Then she could work part-ti at a Live House while striving to get into a national university. And after returning to her apartnt every day, she would have her caring little brother there with her.
The corners of her lips curled up slightly without her realizing it. Aoko humd a little tune with a hint of rock style, her gaze focused on the contents of her textbook.
But just then, the doorbell rang abruptly, interrupting her train of thought.
"Who would be visiting at this hour? Don't tell Big Sis forgot her keys..."
Muttering to herself, Aoko glanced at the clock, which showed it was already past eight. She had no choice but to put down her pen, stand up, and walk toward the entrance.
At that exact mont, Aozaki Rin had also just finished his bath. Hearing the doorbell ring again, he folded the towel he had used to dry his hair, placed it aside, put his glasses back on, and asked with confusion.
"Do we have a guest, Sister?"
"I don't know, maybe they're here to see Mom and Dad? But those two are still at a friend's house for the ti being, so maybe the visitor doesn't know."
Shrugging her shoulders, she answered casually. Aoko scratched her face, walked to the entrance, and looked through the peephole. She saw a middle-aged man with gray hair in a black coat standing at the door. Aozaki Rin, anwhile, had subconsciously followed behind her.
"Looks like a foreigner..."
Aoko blinked, a little puzzled. She didn't know her parents' circle of friends was so wide. But confusion aside, it was a bit rude to just leave a guest standing at the door.
Aoko was subconsciously about to open the door, but at that mont, Aozaki Rin, who had been pondering what a foreigner might look like, seed to sense sothing, and the confusion on his face imdiately turned grave.
"Danger, Sister!"
Throwing his arms around Aoko's waist and kicking off the floor, Aozaki Rin and Aoko's bodies leaped backward a considerable distance.
At that sa mont, on the door that had been firmly closed, a sharp blade made of black sludge instantly erged, slicing through the tal door panel. With a clatter, the door burst open, and a man in a black coat stepped over the fragnts of the door as if he owned the place, entering the foyer.
"I had intended to greet you with so courtesy, but since you were taking so long to open the door, I had to open it this way."
"Nero Chaos."
Hearing the familiar voice, and once again feeling the man's unconcealed aura, Aozaki Rin took a step forward, shielding Aoko behind him.
He had never expected that this Dead Apostle, whom the Church called an [Ancestor], would actually co directly to their door. He imdiately prepared for battle.
"Did you learn that na they gave from the Church?"
Nero Chaos let out a light laugh. Compared to when they had first t, his emotions seed to have beco more varied, as if the hope of finally realizing his years of hard research was causing his long-suppressed desires to slowly surface.
"Well, no matter. My purpose in coming tonight is not for predation, but rely to request one item."
A hint of crimson appeared in his iron-black eyes. Nero Chaos looked at the boy and said.
"If you can give one of your arms, I will leave on my own and not harm anyone. How about that condition?"
Not understanding why the other would suddenly say such a thing, Aozaki Rin was taken aback for a mont, but he could feel that this Dead Apostle before him seed to have set his sights on him.
However, before he could reply, Aoko, who had been stunned by this bizarre situation, finally ca back to her senses. She walked to Aozaki Rin's side, casually picked up a nearby vase, pointed it at the man, and said sternly.
"Hey! What have you been spouting since you got here!? First you break down soone's door without a word, and now you're talking like a yakuza, demanding my Rin's arm! I don't care if you're a magus or what, get the hell out of my house!"
