As he drew closer, the clean scent of soap reached her. His breath ghosted across her face, and Qin i’s body instantly tensed. Her breathing grew heavy.
Jie Jingchen’s gaze moved from her delicate features to her eyelashes. They were long and thick, curling up slightly like tiny fans. He lifted his hand and began toying with them.
"Jie Jingchen, what do you think you’re doing?" Qin i couldn’t stand it any longer. Her eyes snapped open, then imdiately squeezed shut again as she let out a pained cry. "Ah!"
"I’m sorry, I’m sorry," Jie Jingchen apologized, hasty and sincere, his amber eyes filled with worry. "I didn’t an to. Did I hurt your eye?"
He had been toying with her eyelashes, and when she suddenly opened her eyes, he accidentally poked her.
Qin i wasn’t faking it. Jie Jingchen really had poked her in the eye, and it hurt badly. She clutched her left eye, careful not to rub it, as tears began to stream out.
"Jie Jingchen, you bastard! You poked my eye! I’m telling your mom!" Even with her eye throbbing, Qin i didn’t waste an opportunity to curse him out; she felt she owed it to herself.
"Qin i, let see." Instead of apologizing again, Jie Jingchen was now anxious to examine her eye.
"See what? I can’t see anymore! Congratulations, you’ve successfully turned into a cyclops." Qin i glared at Jie Jingchen with her good eye. ’Too late to make it better now.’
"Qin i, stop being childish and let see. If it’s really injured, I’ll take you to the hospital." Jie Jingchen’s impossibly handso face was etched with deep concern. Qin i kept her hand over her eye, refusing to let him look, and he didn’t dare try to force it away.
"Jie Jingchen, you poked my eye, and you have the nerve to call childish..." Qin i’s voice trailed off. Her left eye definitely hurt. He had poked it. ’If he injured my eye,’ she sched, ’then maybe he won’t force to exercise anymore.’ "Let’s go. Take to the hospital."
Hearing this, Jie Jingchen couldn’t help but suspect she had an ulterior motive.
He knew he had really poked her eye; he’d felt the contact. He just didn’t know how severe the injury was.
He couldn’t take any chances with her eye. Jing Wu had taken his father’s car to the countryside to pick up Aunt Zhang, and he didn’t dare take Qin i on a bumpy bus ride. So, Jie Jingchen made a decision on the spot: he would take her to the hospital by bicycle.
"I’ll go get the bike," Jie Jingchen said. Qin i grabbed onto him. "What is it?"
With her good eye, Qin i glanced at Jie Jingchen’s lower back. "Are you up to it?"
A question like that left a lot to the imagination, but Jie Jingchen’s mind wasn’t in the gutter. He patted the back of Qin i’s hand. "Your eye is more important. Worst cos to worst, you can just give a few acupuncture treatnts when we get back."
Qin i didn’t let go, her grip tightening on his sleeve. "What about Jing Qi?"
With no one else at ho, they couldn’t just leave Jing Qi by himself. It was too risky.
"I’ll go ask Second Aunt to watch him," Jie Jingchen said.
Qin i finally let go. She felt at ease leaving Jing Qi with Second Aunt; she knew the woman had a good sense of priorities.
"Hang on, I’ll be right back." Jie Jingchen turned and strode away.
After Jie Jingchen left, Jie Jingshan opened her door and asked with concern, "Qin i, is your eye all right?"
"It’s a little ssed up, but don’t worry. Jie Jingchen is taking to the hospital in a minute." Qin i tried to force a reassuring smile for Jie Jingshan, but her left eye hurt too much.
"Qin i, don’t worry about . You two hurry to the hospital. I’ll be fine, I can take care of myself." Jie Jingshan felt a knot of guilt in her stomach. Her brother had injured Qin i’s eye, yet they were still worried about her before they even left. She was touched, but at the sa ti, she blad herself for being a burden.
"Don’t worry. I don’t think he blinded . A few minutes more or less won’t make a difference," Qin i said breezily. ’It’s not like this is a life-or-death ergency where I’ll drop dead if we miss the golden window for treatnt.’
Jie Jingchen was incredibly fast. He was back in just a mont, said a quick word to Jie Jingshan, and then whisked Qin i away to the hospital on his bicycle.
Second Aunt rushed over, but could only watch their retreating figures. She shook the bottle of eye drops in her hand. "Honestly! They left in such a hurry. I told him to wait. It wouldn’t have been too late to take her after she used these eye drops."
"Second Aunt," Jie Jingshan called out politely.
"Oh, hello dear." Second Aunt tucked the eye drops into her pocket, stepped over the threshold, and walked toward Jie Jingshan. "What happened? How did your sister-in-law hurt her eye? Your brother wasn’t very clear with . He just said she’d hurt her eye and he was taking her to the hospital, and that he needed to co look after you."
"I’m not really sure myself. All I know is that my brother is the one who poked her in the eye." Jie Jingshan felt a pang of regret. ’If I had been out in the yard with them, maybe this wouldn’t have happened.’
