The corner of Qin i’s eye twitched, but not wanting to be a killjoy, she patted her chest and promised, "I guarantee I won’t disappoint you."
Jie Jingchen froze, stunned. He tilted his head to look at Qin i. ’Where does she get this confidence?’ he wondered. ’She can’t even cook, yet she’s making grand promises about her culinary skills.’
Qin i guiltily looked away. ’I’ll cross that bridge when I co to it,’ she thought. ’Once Jie Jingchen actually brings soone ho for a visit, I’ll figure out a way to entertain them.’
"Jing Si, you’re a lucky man!" Gao Hai patted Jie Jingchen’s shoulder, glanced at him with envy, and walked away.
Jie Jingchen’s expression was hard to describe. He and Gao Hai had enlisted in the army together, been assigned to the sa company, trained together, and fought side-by-side. They were the ultimate partners, having gone through hell and back. Later, he was transferred, and Gao Hai left the service. Qin i’s visit to the military base, where she’d wreaked havoc in the family compound, had happened after Gao Hai left. Therefore, Gao Hai knew nothing of Qin i’s past exploits. If he knew, there was no way he would have said it.
"Jing Si, you’re a lucky man!"
After Gao Hai left, Jie Jingchen and Qin i left the guest house.
Jie Jingchen took Qin i ho and gave her a few instructions before leaving on his bike without even entering the courtyard. Qin i thought he was in a hurry to get back to the chanical factory, but he was actually headed to the police station.
Hearing the noise, Jie Jingshan opened the door. When she saw Qin i had returned but not Jie Jingchen, she asked anxiously, "Sister-in-law, where’s my fourth brother?"
’I’m sure I just heard Fourth Brother’s voice, but he’s nowhere to be seen.’
"He went back to work at the factory," Qin i replied.
Jie Jingshan was taken aback. "Wasn’t Fourth Brother injured? Is he okay?"
"Jing Qi, don’t worry. Your fourth brother wasn’t injured. Xu Anshan deliberately sent soone to lure out," Qin i said with a reassuring smile.
Hearing this, Jie Jingshan’s face filled with worry. "Sister-in-law, are you okay?"
"I’m fine." Seeing that Jie Jingshan didn’t believe her, Qin i walked up to her and twirled around. "See? I’m really okay."
Qin i had no intention of dragging Jing Qi into her feud with the Xu Family. ’Xu Anshan is just too dangerous. From what Gao Hai said, this incident won’t be a major blow to him; his release is only a matter of ti. Xu Anshan is a cancer. If he isn’t cut out, he’ll cause endless trouble. But getting rid of him is no easy task.’
’This just goes to show how important power is. It’s so easy for those with power to eliminate soone.’ Qin i gazed at the sky, lanting her own powerlessness.
’Ordinary people have their worries, and those with imnse power have theirs. You really can’t have it all!’
’Xu Anshan is taking his anger out on because I was involved. I just hope he doesn’t take it out on Jing Qi.’
’You live and you learn. I lost out this ti because I underestimated my enemy. Next ti, I definitely won’t make the sa mistake.’
"Jing Qi, you must be hungry. I’ll go make you lunch," Qin i said.
"Sister-in-law." Jie Jingshan stopped Qin i. "Sister-in-law, go wash your face, comb your hair, and change your clothes. We’ll eat out."
With Xu Anshan captured, the imdiate danger had passed. Qin i agreed. She went back to her room to wash her face, comb her hair, and change into a white shirt and black pants, then pushed Jie Jingshan out the door.
Inside the house, Aunt Zhang sat before a mirror, admiring her reflection. Her features were bright and beautiful, a face that looked so much like her sister’s. Thanks to her ticulous care, her skin was even more delicate and radiant. ’Who wouldn’t be envious and jealous when I go back to the countryside looking like this?’ she thought.
’My husband is still as passionate as fire for , but when I look at that slovenly slob, my heart fills with disgust. He’s not worthy of anymore. If it weren’t for my son and daughters, I wouldn’t be willing to go back to the countryside at all.’
"Once I bring my son and two daughters to the city, I’m getting a divorce," Aunt Zhang said with determination to her reflection.
Thinking of her younger daughter, Aunt Zhang felt deeply disappointed. She had brought her younger daughter, Wan’er, to the Jie Family. With her help, it was only a matter of ti before the girl secured her place there. But she’d made one critical oversight—her daughter got pregnant. Fine, she got pregnant. She could have just quietly taken care of it, and that would have been that. But no, she had to have a miscarriage right in the Jie Family’s bathroom.
When she saw her daughter miscarrying, she was stunned. The whole Jie Family knew Wan’er had a miscarriage. She couldn’t hide it even if she wanted to.
What really made her lose it was that Qiao Yanqiu had actually used the miscarriage as an excuse to forbid Wan’er from recovering there. Her brother-in-law hung on Qiao Yanqiu’s every word. Since she didn’t agree, her brother-in-law didn’t even put in a good word for Wan’er. He just had Jing Wu send her straight back to the countryside.
’What a load of crap about it being a taboo!’ In Aunt Zhang’s mind, this was her ho, which ant it was Wan’er’s ho. What was wrong with her recovering from a miscarriage in her own house?
"Qin i, get the hell out here!" Xu Chunyan roared, livid.
