"None of those n are good enough for ." Jie Anqi pouted. "They’re either too old or ugly. And if they’re the right age and handso, their families are dirt poor."
"Yeah, yeah, you’re a goddess descended from the heavens. No mortal man is worthy of you. You might as well just give up on dating altogether." Jie Jingchen had very little patience for Jie Anqi.
"Your brother-in-law is good enough for , though," Jie Anqi said, seizing the opportunity.
Jie Jingchen was speechless. ’Sohow, she always brings it back to this.’
Qin i had intended to stay out of it, but seeing Jie Anqi’s persistence, she couldn’t help but speak up. "My younger brother has a rural household registration."
"I don’t care." Jie Anqi waved a dismissive hand and added, "As long as he has good prospects and money, that’s all that matters."
Qin i was stunned, montarily at a loss for words. ’Jie Anqi’s priorities... I have to hand it to her.’ Even Granny had fallen into a thoughtful silence upon hearing that her younger brother had a rural registration, and had ultimately given up on the idea.
But Jie Anqi didn’t care about the household registration. Her younger brother was in the military, with a promising future ahead of him. As for money, he was generous, and the Qin family didn’t need his financial support. The military provided for all his needs, so he had few expenses. Most of the money he earned, he saved himself.
Her younger brother had savings, but Jie Jingchen didn’t. Qin i shot Jie Jingchen a suspicious look.
A chill ran down Jie Jingchen’s spine under Qin i’s gaze. He couldn’t quite follow her train of thought.
Qin i didn’t press the issue with Jie Jingchen. She shifted her gaze to Jie Anqi and said, choosing her words carefully, "That kind of future is paid for with one’s life. Being a soldier’s wife isn’t so easy. There’s always the risk of becoming a widow."
"Ahem." Jie Jingchen cleared his throat as a reminder. "ii, he’s your younger brother."
Qin i shot Jie Jingchen a look. "I’m not trying to jinx him. I’m just informing your cousin of the risks. If she wants the glory, she has to be prepared to beco a widow."
Jie Jingchen’s mouth twitched at the word "widow." ’Qin Xiang is her younger brother. Can’t she wish him well for a change?’
After a few seconds of thought, Jie Anqi said with stubborn determination, "I believe that after we’re married and have children, he’ll be more careful on missions for my sake, and for our children’s."
Qin i’s feelings were complicated, but her voice was calm. "Trust , everyone treasures their own life. But no matter how careful you are, there’s always a risk of making the ultimate sacrifice in the face of danger."
Simply wanting to live wasn’t enough to escape danger. Everyone knew that the peace they enjoyed today had been bought with the lives of countless heroes.
"He’s your younger brother! How can you curse your own brother like that?" Jie Anqi demanded.
Qin i looked at Jie Anqi, speechless. ’Is that what she calls a curse? It’s just the reality of the situation.’ Jie Anqi couldn’t understand, but Jie Jingchen understood completely.
"I don’t care! You’re my Fourth Brother, and you’re my fourth sister-in-law. He’s your brother-in-law and your younger brother. I’ve taken a liking to him and I won’t marry anyone else. You have to help ," Jie Anqi said, being completely unreasonable.
"We won’t help," said Jie Jingchen.
"We won’t help," said Qin i.
The two of them refused in unison.
"You... You’re ganging up on ! I’m going to tell Granny!" Jie Anqi threatened.
"Your Granny is in that house." Qin i raised her hand, pointing out the window toward the house where she and Grandpa were staying.
Jie Jingchen couldn’t be bothered with her. ’I stand up to Granny directly, so why would I be scared of her? Is threatening with Granny all Jie Anqi has left in her playbook?’
"You all are too much! Just you wait," Jie Anqi threatened. If she couldn’t persuade them, she would just get Granny to pressure them.
A headache began to throb, and Jie Jingchen raised a hand to rub the bridge of his nose.
Qin i looked up, her gaze fixed on Jie Jingchen. His brow was furrowed, and a deep-seated worry was hidden in the depths of his eyes.
"Jie Jingsi, your cousin is a lot like your Granny." ’Domineering and aggressive, completely unreasonable,’ Qin i thought, but didn’t say. It was his grandmother, after all; she had to show so restraint.
The coldness in his expression vanished. A gentle smile touched Jie Jingchen’s lips as he gazed tenderly at Qin i.
"They are a lot alike," Jie Jingchen agreed. He thought for a mont before adding, "Out of all their grandchildren, Granny and Grandpa only raised two of them personally: Jie Anlin and Jie Anqi. Jie Anqi is the most like Granny, and in so ways, even more extre..."
Jie Jingchen suddenly cut himself off, a subtle emotion flashing in his eyes. After hesitating for a few seconds, he added, "And for that very reason, Granny diverts so of the affection she has for Jie Anlin to Jie Anqi."
Qin i made no comnt on the elders’ favoritism. Watching Jie Anqi run into Granny’s house, she couldn’t help but ask curiously, "If Granny had to choose between Jie Anlin and Jie Anqi... Jie Jingsi, who do you think she would pick?"
"Jie Anlin," Jie Jingchen replied without a trace of hesitation.
