It wasn’t easy for Qin i to get Granny to give up on her idea.
Hearing Qin i’s matter-of-fact tone, Granny started to feel sorry for Qin Xiang. "A family like yours will just drag Qin Xiang down."
Qin i chuckled and corrected Granny. "Granny, you’re mistaken. I’m an exception. I married your grandson, so I won’t be sucking my brother’s blood. I’ll only be sucking your grandson’s blood."
Granny was shocked and appalled. This girl had so nerve, saying sothing like that right in front of Jing Si. "Jing Si, did you hear that? This is the wife you married."
"I’m willing to let her suck my blood." Jie Jingchen’s gaze, fixed on Qin i, was filled with adoration and indulgence.
If Qin i truly wanted to suck his blood, he would take a knife, slit his own veins, and let her drink her fill.
Granny was about to be driven mad by this young couple. She already felt that Jing Er had suffered eight lifetis of bad luck by marrying Xu Chunyan. But with the wife Jing Si married, it was like he’d suffered ten lifetis of bad luck. The Xu Family’s situation wasn’t too bad, but Granny couldn’t even imagine how terrible the Qin family’s circumstances must be.
"Jing Si, go on and spoil her. Sooner or later, she’s going to ruin you," Granny said to Jie Jingchen.
"Granny, I have to disagree. I married Jie Jingchen, so I’m part of the Jie Family now. I would never drain my husband’s family to subsidize my own." Qin i’s words were ant for Granny as well as for Jie Jingchen.
Qin i didn’t actually know the Qin family’s true financial situation. But regardless of whether they were rich or poor, she would never endlessly drain her husband’s family to help her own. Even if she were to help them, she would earn the money herself, not take it from Jie Jingchen.
Jie Jingchen didn’t challenge Granny, as that would only undermine Qin i.
"Of course you wouldn’t do it openly. Who knows if you’re secretly subsidizing them behind our backs," Granny retorted, refusing to believe her. Xu Chunyan was a pri example.
Qin i just looked at Granny without a word. Once Granny made up her mind about sothing, nothing she said could change it.
She didn’t care what Granny thought of her. Qin Xiang was the one who said the Qin family was poor; she had just elaborated on his words a bit.
Jie Anqi’s love at first sight for Qin Xiang was baffling. Jie Jingchen had said she was just trying to use Qin Xiang, that her real target was a house. Qin i wasn’t entirely sure how scarce housing was in this era. In her past life, her family was well-off, so she could never understand how crazy people could get over wanting a house.
Granny used to look down on Qin Xiang for his rural household registration, but now she had suddenly changed her mind and wanted to set him up with An Qi. It seed An Qi’s suicide attempt had been effective, at least on Granny.
After a while, Qin i spoke up. "I can earn money, too."
Granny scoffed. She rembered how Qin i had treated An Lin’s "hidden illness" and conned a hefty sum of money out of her. Qin i certainly knew how to make money, but in Granny’s view, her thods were no different from swindling and trickery.
The topic was straying further and further. Granny wanted Qin Xiang to marry An Qi and for An Qi to be married off far away to Yangcheng City. Out of sight, out of mind. The Qin family’s poverty didn’t matter; Qin Xiang had a promising future.
Granny took a deep breath and returned to the original topic. Giving up on Qin i, she said to Jie Jingchen, "Jing Si, find so ti to make a trip to Yangcheng City."
"And what would I be doing in Yangcheng City?" Jie Jingchen raised an eyebrow, a faint, mocking smile on his face as he looked at Granny.
Granny thought it over and, in a matter of monts, made a firm decision. "Inform your parents-in-law that our Jie Family has taken a liking to Qin Xiang and wants him to marry in."
Hearing those two words, "marry in," Qin i shot up from the wicker chair.
Jie Jingchen was also stunned. He hadn’t expected Granny would go so far as to suggest Qin Xiang marry in just to make the match with An Qi happen.
"ii, calm down." Jie Jingchen patted Qin i’s shoulder reassuringly, then held her by both shoulders and gently pressed her back down into the wicker chair.
Qin i took several deep breaths, struggling to calm herself. She was truly speechless at the ideas coming from Jie Jingchen’s granny. To get her to drop the notion, she had trotted out everything from the Qin family being poor to talk of child brides, yet Granny still wouldn’t give up.
Qin i couldn’t understand it. What exactly did they see in Qin Xiang? His future prospects?
"Granny, if you want Qin Xiang to marry into the Jie Family, why not have marry into the Qin family instead?" Jie Jingchen said, his deep voice laced with coldness.
Granny gasped, glaring at Jie Jingchen. "What nonsense are you spouting? The Jie Family is well-off. What need is there for you to marry into another family?"
"Stop daydreaming. Qin Xiang will not marry An Qi, and he certainly won’t be marrying into the Jie Family." Jie Jingchen shattered Granny’s fantasy, adding with iron certainty, "Jie Anqi is not good enough for Qin Xiang."
