Jie Jingchen’s face was filled with contempt and disdain. He ignored Jie Jianjun. He knew that Jie Jianjun was aware that he wouldn’t let Grandpa and Granny move in, yet he’d said it anyway. ’What a malicious man!’
Seeing that Jie Jingchen didn’t object, Jie Jianjun’s interest was instantly piqued. He continued, "Jing Si! Your grandpa and granny have lived with us for more than twenty years. They’re getting on in years, and your family is well-off. It’s your turn to take care of them. They’ve toiled their entire lives and never had much comfort with . How about this—you talk it over with your mom and have them move in with you two. Let them enjoy so comfort in their final years."
’If he wanted his parents to move in, he just had to convince his sister-in-law. His older brother would never refuse his own parents, no matter who else he might turn down.’
Jie Jingchen sneered. ’In his dreams.’
"Weren’t you supposed to be clearing my na? How did we get so sidetracked?" Qin Xiang said, frustrated. ’How did this turn into a discussion about who’s taking care of the elderly?’ He was beginning to suspect that Jie Jianjun hadn’t co to pick a fight with him at all, but to negotiate with Jie Jingchen about caring for Grandpa and Granny.
Qin i shot Qin Xiang a sideways glance, a thoughtful look flashing in her almond-shaped eyes. "If Jie Jingsi’s second uncle hadn’t brought it up first," she said flatly, "Jie Jingsi certainly wouldn’t have."
’But wasn’t this whole setup a bit ridiculous?’
Qin Xiang lowered his gaze to Qin i, smiling as he asked, "You can just call him Jing Si. Why add his family na?"
"Because I want to. Got a problem with it?" Qin i asked pugnaciously.
"Nope." Qin Xiang surrendered. "Whatever makes you happy."
’Jing Si himself didn’t have a problem with it, so who was he to object?’
"Hmph!" Qin i snorted softly before shifting her gaze away, satisfied. She looked back into the courtyard to continue watching the drama unfold.
Qin Xiang leaned lazily against the wall, his sharp gaze fixed on the scene outside the window. "Jing Si’s uncle really has so nerve. I bet even Jing Si’s own father wouldn’t dare talk to his wife like that. Logically speaking, caring for one’s parents should be discussed among the siblings. What business does an uncle have discussing it with his nephew? Jing Si’s parents are both still alive, after all."
Qin i didn’t respond, so Qin Xiang fell silent.
’Final years?’ Granny could no longer keep a straight face. She shot her second son a fierce glare. ’What was he talking about? The old man was only in his seventies, and she was just seventy. A fortune-teller said they would live to be a hundred!’
’In the past, she would have flown into a rage at him right then and there. But now, she had to endure it. After all, her second son was saying this for their sake, to help them stay here permanently. To be honest, after just a few days, she already didn’t want to move back.’
’The surroundings were nice, it was conveniently located, and most importantly, the courtyard was spacious. Once she moved in for good, she was going to fix it up just how she liked.’
Jie Jingchen said unhurriedly, "Second Uncle, the house Grandpa and Granny are living in now belongs to my father. My parents only agreed to let your family move in with them so soone could take care of them. If they move in with us, your family will have to move back to the house the machinery factory assigned to you."
Jie Jianjun froze, his pupils constricting. He was utterly shocked.
Granny, however, wasn’t very shocked. Apparently, she’d heard this threat before.
"We’re living there just fine! Why should we have to move back?" Jie Anlin was the first to lose his composure, becoming agitated.
The house they lived in before had a small yard, and they had to share it with another family. The rooms were cramped, the lighting was poor, and it was in a remote location. The house they were in now, while not as spacious as this one and with fewer rooms, at least had its own small, private courtyard. It was arguably the best house provided by the machinery factory.
"On the grounds that it’s the house the machinery factory assigned to my father." A mocking smile played on Jie Jingchen’s lips as his piercing gaze locked onto Jie Anlin. "What?" he questioned coldly. "Have you been living there so long that you’ve forgotten you’re just borrowing it? Or did you just assu it was your house now?"
Knowing he was in the wrong, Jie Anlin retorted weakly, "You live in a house this nice. You think you’d even want the one from the factory?"
Jie Jingchen lifted his gaze, his expression turning icy. "Do you rember Zhang Hongyan?"
Jie Jingchen directed this question at Jie Jianjun and Granny. Jie Anlin had only been three years old when Zhang Hongyan died. What could a three-year-old possibly rember?
Hearing Jie Jingchen ntion Zhang Hongyan, Jie Jianjun shuddered. A look of disbelief clouded his eyes. His forr sister-in-law... the mory was deeply etched in his mind. How could he possibly forget?
"Jing Si, that’s enough! When will you ever stop?" Granny couldn’t take it anymore. He was bringing up Zhang Hongyan again. ’This unfilial grandson! Won’t he be happy until he’s angered to death?’
"To avoid repeating Zhang Hongyan’s tragic mistake, my mother will absolutely not live under the sa roof as her mother-in-law." Jie Jingchen’s voice was devoid of inflection, but every word was crystal clear.
