"Yes, last year during the New Year, Sister-in-law Lin and I were neighbors. Now I’ve moved to a new ho and I was thinking of inviting her over to my place. Since both sisters-in-law are here, why not co to my place later and play a few rounds?" Sun Yu could tell there was sothing different about Jiang Ailian.
Lin Wan wasn’t aware of this, but Zhang Cuiping knew a bit. Jiang Ailian’s husband holds a military rank, and their family is from the city, with roots there. Jiang Ailian is a city person herself; their family has a good background.
That’s why Sun Yu is very warm towards Jiang Ailian. Though Han Yi and Yang Wei are good brothers of Old Huang from her family, she still prefers Lin Wan more. She just can’t seem to warm up to this Sun Yu.
"Play what?" Lin Wan was a bit confused.
"Mahjong, I’ve got a set at my place, bought it in the city. Co on, three sisters-in-law, let’s go to my place and play for a while," Sun Yu said, tugging Lin Wan along.
"Alright then," Lin Wan realized she couldn’t refuse, so she just went along with it, closed the door, and joined the two sisters-in-law heading towards the new building in the back.
Sun Yu’s house is on the west side of the fourth floor, with two bedrooms and a living room.
The first impression upon entering was as if stepping into soone else’s wedding venue.
The furniture and decorations inside were quite nice: reddish-brown wooden sofa, a square dining table. Just the garlands hanging from the ceiling were sowhat dizzying. They looked good, just for the novelty. Lin Wan thought Sun Yu might have laid so floor tiles or painted the walls nicely or sothing.
"How is it? Okay, right?" Sun Yu watched as Lin Wan looked around intently upon entering, feeling satisfied inside.
"Hmm, it’s quite nice," Lin Wan smiled slightly, responding politely.
Sun Yu’s deanor was sothing Jiang Ailian and Zhang Cuiping were used to.
When soone asks you how your ho decorations are, what else can you say?
To be honest, while Zhang Cuiping is from the countryside and used to simple things, she doesn’t like this flashy stuff.
Jiang Ailian is from the city, and every family among their relatives and friends is well-off.
Even back in their family in S City, they compare well to here.
After moving with the troops, the two kids weren’t brought over. They’re in S City with their grandparents attending school. It’s just them two here. Plus, Jiang Ailian couldn’t tolerate the cold here, so she applied for housing.
They didn’t plan on staying in the dormitory buildings, another reason being that her husband Old Shen would soon be reassigned.
In her view, Sun Yu’s house, though called renovated, is almost the sa as others’ unrenovated ones. Just a few garlands and so good furniture.
"You all sit first, I’ll make so tea for you. We have plenty of ti, let’s play so card gas."
"I’m not very good at mahjong," Lin Wan, having lived two lifetis, had never played mahjong. "It’s easy to learn, city folks all play it."
Though Sun Yu was smiling as she said this to Lin Wan, Lin Wan always felt there was a hint of disdain in her eyes.
Well, yes, Sun Yu really did look down on her for being from the countryside. Inviting her over today was just to show off.
"If Xiao Wan can’t play, then don’t. I don’t feel like playing either," Zhang Cuiping tugged on Lin Wan’s arm.
All because of mahjong, two months ago, Wang Guihua had a huge argunt with her husband.
Although they fight in private, their housing area is all connected. If one family has an issue, even slightly loud sounds get known.
And it was because Sun Yu dragged Wang Guihua into playing mahjong, initially for a penny a ga. Even with that, Wang Guihua ended up losing quite a bit during that ti, about two yuan altogether.
