"It’s not too serious. I’ve taken so dicine and I’m much better. I’m just idling at ho anyway, no big deal."
"Oh, the in-law is here, please co in and have a seat." Liang Hongi was sewing hats in the room.
The two have t quite a few tis and are familiar with each other now.
"Mrs. Xiao Wan, let help you for a while, you can rest first."
Speaking of which, Shen Qing and Liang Hongi were quite attractive when they were young, both were beauties in their own right.
But the fate of beauties wasn’t kind. One had an illegitimate child, and after remarrying, was troubled by her mother-in-law for half her life. The other lost her husband early on and lived a hard life raising two kids.
In the days when Xiao Wan wasn’t around, Liang Hongi and Shen Qing had beco much more acquainted.
The two could speak freely with each other.
"I’m not tired. By the way... Sister Shen, Xiao Wan is pregnant, it’s been over a month." Liang Hongi finally found soone she could confide in. As soon as Shen Qing entered the room, she was smiling and pulling her in to chat.
Originally, the mother-in-law should have known about this.
"Pregnant?" Shen Qing was pleasantly surprised by this news today and quickly stood up to prevent Lin Wan from working around the house.
She gently made her sit down, "Why didn’t you tell mom about the pregnancy sooner? I’ll get you so eggs. You can’t go without eggs and milk. Tomorrow, I’ll go to the milk station to subscribe for you. When pregnant, you should drink more nutritious things so the baby grows well."
"Mom, no need to trouble yourself. We’ve got plenty of eggs at ho. My mom prepared a big basket for . The doctor says I should eat more spinach and tomatoes for now," Lin Wan had researched and found that spinach and tomatoes contain folic acid and vitamins, which are good for the baby’s developnt early on.
"The doctor is right. I’ll buy so fruits for you tomorrow." She’s going to be a grandmother since her son is having a child.
She was so happy she forgot that she ca to get yarn today. Upon leaving, she realized she’d caught a cold in her joy, worried about passing it on to Xiao Wan.
She promised to co by again tomorrow.
Lin Wan was bored at ho, so she went to the shop with Liang Hongi in the afternoon.
She wanted to see Brother Huang but rembered he cos in the mornings to deliver goods. He’s already gone by now. Lately, mom has been ho in the mornings helping sew things, so there’s no hope of seeing him either.
"Xiao Gu, when you see Brother Huang tomorrow, tell him to help deliver a few sheets of dog leather. Um, ten sheets."
"Sister Xiao Wan, I heard from Aunt Liang that you’re recently doing business with hats and headgear?"
"Yeah, why?"
Xiao Gu thought for a mont before speaking, "I wanted to ask if you need help?"
"Do you know anyone? How many?"
"From the welfare ho. They’re so girls, thirteen or fourteen years old, about seven or eight of them. Don’t underestimate them, they’re really nimble when working. If Sister Xiao Wan needs help, can you consider them?"
Lin Wan frowned, thought for a while, then finally asked, "How many sewing machines are there at the welfare ho?"
Xiao Gu deflated, "Only the director’s mom has one."
"They don’t go to school?"
"They do. They have classes for half a day. The older kids go out in the afternoon to find odd jobs to earn money to support the ho."
"Oh... okay then," Lin Wan bowed her head and pondered for a long ti.
Xiao Gu saw that the matter wasn’t settled and turned to busy himself.
Before he left for night school, Lin Wan called Xiao Gu over and said, "Bring them to my house tomorrow. I have so scarf weaving work. I’ll teach them for a few days. If they learn well, they can help weave scarves when they’re free at the welfare ho, one yuan per scarf."
