"Dad, aren’t you cold?"
"Hmm, your third granduncle’s place is like an ice cellar, not even a stove. I guess he’ll be mooching off us again soon." Han Yi said as he handed the diamond he got today to Little Star, "Make sure not to lose this, okay? This will be part of your dowry soday, and we’ll use it to make you a shiny wedding dress."
"Okay, okay." Little Star didn’t know what a wedding dress was, but she understood that her dad was going to make clothes for her.
Lin Wan saw the big shiny object and was worried her daughter might lose it. So she got out of bed and found a small tin box for her. This was a candy box that Han Yi had specifically bought for Little Star.
Lin Wan took the candies out and gave the box to Little Star to store her things.
"Rember, don’t lose it."
"Uh-huh, Mom, if you’re worried, after I play with it for a few days, you can keep it safe for ."
"Alright."
Little Star had a big nap and wasn’t sleepy at all. She played in bed with her shiny toy for a while. Lin Wan, worried she might catch a cold, tucked her under the covers.
Luckily, their bed was big. Han Yi took out another quilt to make room for their daughter, and the two of them slept in another quilt.
Han Yi knew Lin Wan wasn’t sleeping well at night, so he specifically bought two big pillows for her, so she could rest her legs better.
"What did Chen Haichang want with you? He talked for so long. Your hands are so cold." Han Yi’s hands were only starting to warm up after being under the quilt for a while.
"It’s all because of Mr. i. Chen Haichang originally ca to find Mr. i; first to get revenge, and second to retrieve the Chen family’s heirloom. Who knew that i Erqing had already given the heirloom away."
"An heirloom, what’s that?"
"A jade ring, foggy white. His mother said on her deathbed that it was in i Erqing’s hands."
"So that’s why he was so upset today. Do you know who it’s with now? Can it be retrieved?" Lin Wan asked.
"It’s already been retrieved. It’s in his possession now."
"Oh, I see."
Han Yi didn’t say much more to Lin Wan, even though Chen Haichang had told him a lot today.
But, speaking of coincidences, it was quite the timing. Just days after i Erqing talked to him, the man of that house and his son both died one after the other.
Chen Haichang originally went to retrieve the ring, but unexpectedly witnessed a car accident right in front of him.
In the chaos of blending into the crowd to help, he managed to take the ring off the man’s hand.
Chen Haichang said Mr. i thought he was the one behind it, so he’s been on edge these past few days.
"So is he leaving now? He ca to get his stuff, and now that he has it back, does he plan to continue the conflict with i Erqing?"
"Of course, i Erqing hasn’t been angered to death yet. Why would he let it go? You have to admit, that old man’s temper is quite sothing. After all he’s been through, he’s still in good health." Han Yi jested.
Lin Wan chuckled, "Isn’t that what they say, bad people live longer? There’s so truth to that."
After Lin Wan spoke, they both shared a light laugh.
The next morning, Lin Wan got up and found a phone booth outside to call her dad. This was sothing he asked them to do before he left.
Yesterday, Mr. i had ntioned inviting her dad over for a al. She wasn’t sure if her dad would co.
So they called to ask in advance.
"I haven’t seen i Shuping yet, probably will go over. I’m free today."
Lin Guozhi had considered visiting the i Family but wouldn’t go directly. If the i Family didn’t invite him, he wouldn’t go.
The reason for visiting was basically to give them a heads-up, preventing anyone from bullying his daughter.
Especially i Langchi and Ye Qing.
"Dad, got it, we’ll wait for you at the old house today then."
"Okay."
After hanging up, Lin Wan and Han Yi bought soy milk and fried dough sticks on their way back ho. As soon as they entered, they saw Chen Haichang and Little Star, wearing a big padded jacket, eating the leftover lean at porridge in the living room.
"When did Boss Zhang beco so down and out?" Lin Wan looked at Chen Haichang’s ssy hair and unwashed face. It seed he was the one who got Little Star up and dressed her in Han Yi’s big cotton jacket.
"Ah, can’t help it. All my boys are busy making money for . This ti, I ca by myself, and the old man saddled with a new yard with nothing in it. I’m freezing to death. Xiao Wan, could I borrow my big nephew for a while to help get so daily necessities?"
Lin Wan didn’t co back, helplessly glanced at Han Yi, and quickly pulled Little Star to go inside and get dressed.
"Well, we agreed, I’ll accompany you to buy things, but you pay for them, and you carry them yourself. I’m not going to be your laborer," Han Yi threw a look at Chen Haichang, who was eating without a care in the world.
Then he put the al they just bought on the table and started eating with big bites, clearly having no intention of involving Chen Haichang.
Chen Haichang saw there were fried dough sticks, quickly got up to grab one, then sat back by the stove, "I ca to find you precisely because I wanted help with so labor. After all, I’m your third uncle, so it’s only right for you, as the younger generation, to help your uncle with so work."
"Third Grandpa, you’re so silly, you can’t even handle your things. Look at my dad, he can do everything, and he still takes care of and Mom. Oh... right, Third Grandpa should find a Third Grandma, that way you won’t have to eat leftovers. My Third Grandma will surely cook for you. She can also make you thick cotton-padded jackets, so you won’t feel cold."
"You clever little rascal, you know quite a bit. I also want to find you a Third Grandma, but your Third Grandpa hasn’t found the right one yet. Once I do, I’ll definitely bring her back. Then, there’s no need to eat at your house."
After everyone finished eating, Lin Wan got so hot water for Chen Haichang so he could quickly wash his face. Chen Haichang gave his house key to Lin Wan, then pulled Han Yi to drive out.
With nothing much to do, Lin Wan took Little Star for a stroll around Chen Haichang’s courtyard. Overall, it was similar to her own courtyard.
Chen Haichang and Han Yi first went to get a stove, ordered a lot of coal, loaded a cart for their house, and then brought another cart for her house. Han Yi had just gotten so coal, and now they brought so much more that her side house veranda was almost unable to hold it all.
Han Yi said that Chen Haichang had plenty of money and that it shouldn’t go to waste.
After installing the stove, Lin Wan brought Little Star from ho with a block of coal. They first heated the room until it was warm and cozy.
Lin Wan thought they would co back after buying so daily supplies, but who knew they would make such a big round, even furnishing the rooms. They didn’t even skip their own house.
Lin Wan watched the delivery people move the items into their ho one by one, thinking to herself that her husband being a laborer this ti was worth it. The furniture for these few rooms must have cost at least a hundred yuan. Tsk tsk, even the sofa wasn’t left out.
Chen Haichang looked at Lin Wan and Little Star’s sneaky eyes and smiled, "How about it? Are these things worth more than the als I mooch off at your place?"
"More than enough. You’re welco to mooch any ti, hehe," Lin Wan nodded with satisfaction.
And that wasn’t even all; Chen Haichang also took the whole family out for a big lunch at noon.
"Xiao Wan, didn’t you say Ye Qing’s forr romantic interest’s parents ca to find Ye Qing? How co there’s been no sign of them?"
"I don’t know. Su Ling told Li Liang’s parents ca. They should have t with Ye Qing by now, not sure what’s going on between them."
Chen Haichang frowned, "Ye Qing is a bit tricky, maybe they’ve already t, or perhaps Ye Qing has fooled them."
Lin Wan didn’t mind too much, as long as Ye Qing faced so obstacles, with Wei Xue around, she wasn’t worried about Li Liang’s parents not believing her.
...
After lunch, they returned to the courtyard for a bit of rest. In the middle of winter, there was no need for a nap. Today they had just moved so much furniture, they needed to get everything in order themselves.
Chen Haichang had a good eye for choosing only quality items. Including the two side rooms, there were five rooms in the main wing, with three in the east and three in the west wing.
Lin Wan turned the two side rooms into studies, the kitchen was to the south on the east side, and the toilet was on the west side. The toilet was a bit old, and Lin Wan planned to have it renovated once the weather ward up. There was plumbing, so installing a toilet and creating a shower wouldn’t be an issue.
The yard was quite large and could even accommodate a few ornantal trees. Since they didn’t live here long-term, it wasn’t maintained regularly. Otherwise, they could have had it done up nicely.
At around three in the afternoon, Han Yi took Lin Wan and Little Star back to the main yard. Chen Haichang said he would co over later; after all, he had a car, so Han Yi didn’t insist on him coming along.
When they arrived, Dad hadn’t co yet, but Aunt Wu was already preparing in the kitchen.
Perhaps maybe i Langchi and Ye Qing were feeling guilty, they weren’t in the main yard today.
Today Mr. i and Old Mrs. i went to attend an old comrade’s funeral and hadn’t returned yet.
Xie Lingzhi was supposed to be ho as well, but unexpectedly took i Langchi and Ye Qing back to her parents’ house.
To be honest, it was Ye Qing’s first ti visiting i Lang’s extended family.
This morning as soon as they got up, Xie Lingzhi said they were going to her parents’.
Ye Qing thought sothing was amiss, and quickly snuck out to the bank to withdraw a few thousand yuan.
Today they might et Xie Zhitao, and to avoid gossip, she was determined to spend that money.
Ye Qing didn’t know that as Xie Lingzhi took them out of the yard, Li Liang’s parents happened to see them.
And Hua Hua next to her saw even more clearly.
"Honey, did you see that kid? He looks just like our Little Liang when he was young," Li Liang’s mom was a bit excited, completely forgetting about the identification that Ye Qing had shown them before.
"Yeah, he really does. Look, our wait this ti was worth it." Li Liang’s dad was also delighted, though not showing it as openly as Li Liang’s mom.
"Where are they headed? Should we follow them?"
