The next morning, Chuxia found out about the outco of Zhou Nanping’s situation from Division Commander Tongzi. After hearing the whole story, she sighed involuntarily, not knowing what to say.
However, objectively speaking, the outco was already unexpected. Regardless of what happens between Zhou Nanping and Fang Tao in the end, at the very least, the relationship with Uncle and Aunt’s family won’t be strained.
While saying this, Zhou Mikang had asked her to put the phone on speaker. Old Madam Zhou and Lin Yanqiu were also by her side, so her silence made the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law misinterpret her as being angry. They exchanged a glance, and Lin Yanqiu shouted into the phone, "Xiaomi, what did you originally say, how co it changed suddenly?"
Old Madam Zhou agreed, "Yes, Xiaomi, even if you felt a little reluctant at the ti, you should have discussed it with Xia before deciding. Don’t you think you’re being a bit disrespectful?"
Zhou Mikang, hearing the duet from the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law over the phone, imdiately chuckled and said, "Grandma, Mom, you’re overthinking. Chuxia isn’t angry, she’s just conflicted for Uncle and Aunt. With Nanping’s personality, who knows what will happen in half a year, right?"
"Grandma, Mom, do you really think I’m that petty?" Chuxia gazed at the two won with her big eyes, looking aggrieved.
The two won laughed sheepishly, realizing now their initial mistake. From the beginning, Chuxia disagreed with causing family discord over this matter. They were the ones who told her not to worry, and now they’re unjustly blaming her, which was completely inappropriate.
Yu Tao, silently observing from the side, broke the ice with a smile, "Sister-in-law, Grandma, and Mom didn’t think you’re petty, they’re just overly concerned."
"I know..." Chuxia interrupted Yu Tao with a giggle, "I did it on purpose."
"..." Not only were Old Madam Zhou and the others exasperated, but even Zhou Mikang on the phone shared the sentint. She was almost a mom herself, yet still so fond of playing pranks. It was hard to imagine how the child would turn out under her upbringing.
"Zhou Nanping has returned to the Fang Family now?" After teasing everyone, Chuxia felt quite pleased and changed the topic.
"Yes, she insisted on returning to the Fang Family, so we had to let her be."
Old Madam Zhou sighed, "Shanping and Xiaohong aren’t the kind to be stubborn, yet both of these kids are as stubborn as oxen. Xiaomi, I must thank you for this matter. More importantly, I need to thank Chuxia."
"Grandma, we’re your grandchildren and granddaughters-in-law."
"Grandma, by saying so, it feels like you don’t see as family."
The two of them spoke almost in unison over the phone, with different words but the sa aning, making Old Madam Zhou and Lin Yanqiu smile. The couple’s harmony was exactly what they were happy to see.
After a bit of small talk, Zhou Mikang ended the call, eager to finish his tasks and visit the hospital, where Old Master Zhao was still in a critical condition.
Throughout the morning, Chuxia couldn’t focus at school. Although her parents called to say that grandpa’s condition was stable, she couldn’t truly relax until his situation settled. Plus, she was worried that they were telling her positive news just to reassure her.
After school, she hurried ho, making Wu Jingbo, who was accompanying her, jog to keep up.
"Slow down." Wu Jingbo grabbed her, "I know you’re anxious, but if sothing happens to you, what will your parents do?"
"I’m fine, I know my body. Even if I ran back, I’d be okay..."
"Cut it out..." Wu Jingbo interrupted her, "You’re pregnant with twins. No matter how healthy you are, you need to be more cautious than other pregnant won. Besides, you weren’t particularly strong to begin with.
While you’re stronger now after so training, your foundation is still weak. You should use this pregnancy to strengthen yourself and recover after childbirth, ensuring your health truly improves.
Pregnancy and postpartum recovery are like giving your body a second chance. If you don’t seize it now, it’ll be much harder to recuperate later. By then, you’ll regret it with nowhere to turn."
Chuxia gave her a helpless look, "When did you beco as nagging as ngran?"
"I’m a doctor." Wu Jingbo glared at her, "When it cos to health, I can out-nag the boss. If you don’t believe , just try ignoring my advice."
"Alright, alright, I’ll listen to you, okay?" Chuxia had no choice but to slow down a bit, her expression full of helplessness.
"That’s better..." After a pause, Wu Jingbo continued to comfort her, "Based on what you told before, Uncle Lin and Auntie Zhao are probably not lying to you. Don’t worry."
"If you were , could you rest easy?" Chuxia asked back.
"No." Wu Jingbo sighed helplessly, "But regardless of whether we can or not, when we’re powerless, we should at least try to think positively. Otherwise, if sothing happens to you, it’ll only trouble everyone."
"I know." Chuxia also looked helpless, "I’m not that clueless. I’ve studied dicine for a long ti, and I did quite well. I really am aware of my own body."
"But you didn’t study gynecology."
Listening to Wu Jingbo’s soft muttering, Chuxia couldn’t help but laugh. She felt much better than before. Yes, things were already this way. Worrying or not worrying wouldn’t change a thing. It was better to ease herself and reassure everyone else.
Upon returning ho, Old Madam Zhou, Old Master Wan, and Lin Yanqiu were all present. Chuxia’s first question was whether there were any updates on her grandfather.
Old Madam Zhou smiled at her, "Your grandfather is completely out of danger now. Tomorrow, he can be moved from the ICU to a regular ward. In a few days, when he’s mobile, he’ll be transferred directly to the Capital City. Does that put your mind at ease?"
"Really?!" Chuxia’s face lit up with joy, "Did my parents say this directly?"
"Yes." Lin Yanqiu replied with a smile, "Would we deceive you about sothing like this? Even if we lied for a mont, wouldn’t knowing the truth later hurt more?"
Hearing this, Chuxia finally relaxed. She turned and hugged Wu Jingbo, giving him a firm pat: "You really hit the nail on the head. You’re definitely going to be a great doctor soday!"
Wu Jingbo was speechless, unsure of what to say.
While they were eating lunch, the phone rang. Sister-in-law Yin answered and said a few words, then covered the receiver and looked at them: "It’s Zhou Nanping calling; she wants to say a few words to Chuxia."
Although Sister-in-law Yin was Old Master Wan’s caregiver, her previous rapport with Zhao Yulan and others, along with her tutoring Chuxia, ant you couldn’t discern an employer-employee relationship from how she addressed the family.
"I’ll get it..." Lin Yanqiu stood up but was pulled back by Chuxia, "Mom, let handle it. If it’s an unreasonable request, I won’t agree to it."
Old Madam Zhou also said, "Yanqiu, let Chuxia handle it herself."
Hesitating for a mont, Lin Yanqiu sat back down.
Chuxia walked over and picked up the phone, greeted by Zhou Nanping’s unusually enthusiastic voice: "Hello, Third Sister-in-law, this is Nanping. Have you had lunch yet?"
"I’m eating right now. What’s up?"
"I’ll talk to you after you finish eating, sorry to bother you."
With that, Zhou Nanping quickly hung up, leaving Chuxia no chance to stop her. She had no choice but to shrug to everyone and sit back down to continue eating.
"It seems the kid really has changed a bit," Old Madam Zhou remarked.
Lin Yanqiu nodded in agreent, "Indeed, in the past, she would never speak like this, nor consider others’ feelings."
After eating, about ten minutes later, the phone rang again. Chuxia got up to answer it. As expected, it was Zhou Nanping. After exchanging greetings, Chuxia asked her to get straight to the point.
After a slight pause, Zhou Nanping said, "Third Sister-in-law, I owe you an apology. I was wrong before, being jealous and resentful for no reason. It was all my fault. Please don’t take it to heart."
"It’s all in the past."
"Thank you for your generosity, Third Sister-in-law, and for not holding a grudge. Otherwise, I might not even have a regular worker’s job now. I called to thank you and to plead on behalf of Fang Xiang.
She’s actually quite pitiful. My in-laws favored boys over girls, and she never received any attention. Now that the Fang Family isn’t what it used to be, she’s been ostracized even more. Plus, she used to have a bit of a crush on Third Brother, so when I spoke to her, she agreed to my request.
If possible, could you let her finish college? I promise she’ll never bother you again, nor will she do anything against you."
Reflecting for a mont, Chuxia replied, "Sixth Sister, let her tell herself. It’s not that I don’t trust you; I just want to see her sincerity firsthand."
"Okay, I’ll call her right away. Thank you, Third Sister-in-law. Oh, by the way, how’s your health now?"
"Pretty good."
Zhou Nanping quickly said, "I won’t disturb you then. I’ll visit you soti."
"This child..." Lin Yanqiu sighed, "Your heart is too soft. That Fang Xiang is the least deserving of forgiveness. She has nothing to do with you yet believed one-sided words to hurt you. Such people are the hardest to pardon."
"Mom, it’s not that I’m soft-hearted..." Chuxia paused and sighed, "Zhou Mikang has already done so much; I don’t want his efforts to go to waste. Having compromised this much, compromising a bit more isn’t too much.
Also, for Zhou Nanping to think of pleading for Fang Xiang makes quite happy. Her old selfish ways would never consider others. Now, being thoughtful of others ans she’s truly changed."
"That’s true." Old Madam Zhou nodded in agreent, "Then let’s see Fang Xiang’s attitude. Chuxia, you can wait a bit and see how she behaves before making a decision." (To be continued.
