64: Chapter 62: The Dilemma of Being a Daughter-in-law_2 64: Chapter 62: The Dilemma of Being a Daughter-in-law_2 “Alright, you don’t have to be so snide with about my elder brother and sister-in-law,” Nuan snapped, “Since it’s all out in the open, let just say it clearly.

Over the years, I’ve occasionally helped out my elder brother and sister-in-law, but the money I’ve spent has all co from what I earn extra.”

“While other won earn seven or eight points at work, when have I not made ten?

Plus the subsidy for being the won’s director, I earn one and a half tis what Qingshu does.”

“Mom has brothers and sisters too, and she still helps out my tight-fisted Third Aunt with things.

Why is it that when Mom does this, it’s considered affection, but when I do it, it’s not allowed?

Mom had Qingshu and my elder sister as one of each, a perfect combination.

Why is it that when it cos to , I’m suddenly the hen that can’t lay eggs?”

“Listen to this…

listen to this…” Baojuan’s mother-in-law looked mockingly at Lin Baohe, “So you’re the brother who’s been constantly supported by her?

You’re a man too, how can you shalessly depend on your sister for a living?”

“If you’re upset, take it out on , don’t be hard on my elder brother and sister-in-law.” Lin Baojuan, anxious, pulled at Lin Baohe and Zhao Yulan, “Elder brother, sister-in-law, don’t take her seriously.

She just speaks her mind.

If you really take it to heart, you’re only looking for trouble.”

Zhao Yulan patted Lin Baojuan’s hand and looked at Baojuan’s mother-in-law, “Auntie, Baojuan feels for Chuxia and always wants to share the good things with us.

Every ti she tells us, Auntie, you have a good heart and you look after us.

We’re really incredibly grateful to you.”

“Auntie, what’s all this anger about today?

Both Baohe and I understand.

Baojuan has been seriously injured, and it’s our fault you’re angry.

But as guests, it’s not right for you to vent on us, so you take it out on Baojuan instead.”

“Auntie, we’re well aware of the kindness you and Baojuan’s husband have shown us.

Right now, we’ve just moved and money is really tight.

Once things get a little easier, we’ll definitely show our gratitude.

Chuxia is our daughter, but she’s also Baojuan’s close niece.

In the future, she’ll be as devoted to her little aunt as she is to us.”

Baojuan’s mother-in-law narrowed her rheumy eyes and curled her lips: “Her sister-in-law, you have a way with words.

After what she’s said, you still believe those gifts were sent with my blessing?”

“Even if Auntie didn’t ask Baojuan to send them, it would still have been with your approval,” said Zhao Yulan resolutely.

“Fine, rember what you said today.” Baojuan’s mother-in-law said, then went into the house and sat on the bench under the kang, her little eyes gleaming as they fixed on Chuxia: “And you’re Chuxia?”

“Yes!” Although she was extrely reluctant to deal with this old woman, Chuxia still managed to suppress the irritation in her heart and answered for the sake of her aunt.

Baojuan’s mother-in-law just nodded: “Hmm, you’ve got the kind of look that rich families admire.

But what’s the use of marrying soone like you in our farming fields?”

“Mom, how can you say that?

My sister-in-law is giving you face, saying these things to give a better life.

Don’t you feel embarrassed…”

“Baojuan…” Zhao Yulan quickly stopped Lin Baojuan from continuing, hoping to flatter Baojuan’s mother-in-law so Baojuan could have a better life.

But this sister-in-law, she just couldn’t stop being so straightforward, could she?

Lin Baojuan was the youngest at ho, and although she was a girl, she had three older brothers, and both Old Master Lin and Old Lady Lin doted on her quite a bit.

So, her temperant was straightforward and bold, with a strong sense of justice.

She was not malicious, but she absolutely couldn’t stand others bullying her.

This was evident when she ca back to her parents’ ho to speak up for Lin Baohe and Zhao Yulan.

Expect her to ingratiate herself with others against her will?

Don’t even think about it!

“Elder brother, sister-in-law, are you here?” At the doorway, a forty-sothing lean man with a simple face and a genuine smile appeared, “Had I known elder brother and sister-in-law were coming, I would have co back from work earlier.” He then called over his shoulder, “Dajiang, Xiaoxiang, co quickly, your second uncle and aunt are here.”

“Second uncle, aunt, hello.”

A robust young man about twenty and a girl similar in age to Chuxia quickly showed up at the door, greeting Lin Baohe and Zhao Yulan in unison.

Here were Baojuan’s husband, Luan Qingshu, and their children, son Luan Dajiang and daughter Luan Xiaoxiang.

“Are you all blind?”

The ignored Baojuan’s mother-in-law was not pleased.

Luan Qingshu smilingly appeased her: “Mom, Dad went to Second Uncle’s place.

It’s Great-Grandpa’s birthday tonight; he wants you to co too.”

“I’m not going,” Old Lady Luan huffed coldly: “You think I’d go empty-handed?”

“Dad bought a bag of pastries and a pound of White Sugar for Second Uncle.

He’s already taken them over.”

“Pretentious even when poor!” Old Lady Luan’s face was as dark as the bottom of a pot, “A whole family of paupers, giving away what little they have like rich folks.

If you’re so capable, go without food yourself.”

Luan Qingshu looked puzzledly towards his wife.

“Mom’s been ranting for quite a while now…” Lin Baojuan proceeded to recount everything that had happened.

Luan Qingshu’s face flickered with changing emotions.

After a mont, he stepped forward, looked earnestly at Old Lady Luan and said, “Mom, Baojuan speaks the truth.

She’s told more than once how she envies my sister-in-law.

I admit, I’m not as good as my elder brother at cherishing my wife and kids.”

“So what, you’re saying your father and I have wronged your wife?”

“That’s not what I an.”

“Then what are you saying?”

“I just want us, as a family, to live together peacefully.

Mom, just kill …” Luan Qingshu thrust his head forward, his emotions running high, “Mom, you gave birth to , raised ; my life is yours.

Mom, take my life back, please.

I really can’t stand these thankless days.”
