“Knock, knock.” Qin Xue helplessly tapped on the door. She hated to disturb anyone’s sleep in such late hours, but she also didn’t want to freeze outside. So she decided, guiltily, to disturb them.
“Who’s there? At this ungodly hour,” Nangong Shulan was awoken by the door knocking.
“I’ll go check it out. You should go back to sleep,” After hearing his wife’s voice, Qin Lei listened intently, indeed soone was knocking at the door.
“I have no idea who could it be, coming at this hour to disturb our rest, could sothing have happened?” uttered Nangong Shulan. Nobody had ever knocked at their door this late before; and it was on the eve of the New Year, it could only an sothing must have happened.
Before the couple in the room could get up, Qin Yu was already at the door. He too, was woken by the knock.
“Who’s outside?” Qin Yu asked before opening the door.
“Is that you, Xiao Yu? It’s your sister. Hurry up, we’re freezing to death out here,” Hearing her brother’s voice, Qin Xue quickly responded. It was so cold that she felt like freezing to death.
“Sis, brother-in-law, why did you co back at this hour? Should have rested overnight and returned in daylight,” said Qin Yu. He only called out for Qin Xue and her husband as he didn’t notice Jing Xin, then he stepped aside to let them in.
“Jing Xin, how co you’re here too?” Just as Qin Yu was about to close the door, a hand stopped him. He was startled.
“Here to see my wife.” Jing Xin glanced at Qin Yu before striding into the house. Qin would have told him about his wife’s whereabouts, but this boy didn’t.
If Qin Yu knew Jing Xin’s thoughts, he would have cried foul. He himself only found out about Fang Xiu’s location after returning ho.
“Warm yourself up by the fire first. I’ll get you so hot water to drink. Oh, have you all eaten? I could prepare so noodles for you,” Qin Yu, bundled up in his thick jacket, looked at the three who were warming themselves by the fire and asked.
“Yes, please. Can you also fry us an egg? We need to regain our energy, it’s too cold,” Qin Xue felt extrely cold and hungry, she needed the protein to warm her body.
“Sure, just drink so hot water first, I’ll be right back with your food,” With that said, Qin Yu turned and headed to the kitchen.
“Xiao Yu, who’s at our house?” As Qin Lei stepped out of his room, he saw his son leaving the living room. Even though he heard voices, he couldn’t make out who it was.
“Dad, why are you up?” Qin Yu asked his father when he heard him.
“Didn’t I hear soone knocking at the door? I intended to open it, but who ca at this hour?” By the ti Qin Lei got dressed and ca out, his son had already opened the door, so he couldn’t tell who was at the door.
“It’s sis and her husband, they’re back. I’m going to make them so noodles now. They must be so miserable, caught in the cold and hungry in the middle of the night,” Qin Yu said as he was washing the wok.
“Your sister and her husband are back? Are they okay? Any injuries?” Upon hearing this, Qin Lei sat down to stoke the fire, hoping the al would be ready sooner.
“They seed to be perfectly fine, probably not injured,” Qin Yu wasn’t sure if they were really uninjured, but they looked okay, so he responded that they were fine.
