“Did I startle you?” Chu Molin intended to keep silent but ended up speaking after seeing Fang Xiu’s surprised expression.
Fang Xiu shook her head and pointed to the pot he was scrubbing, asking about his intentions.
“Xue’er is feeling unwell, so I wanted to cook up so sugar water to replenish her energy,” replied Chu Molin, not aware that Qin Xue was not unwell, but simply feeling out of sorts due to her nstruation.
Having been consuming spiritual spring water for health maintenance, Qin Xue had long since restored her body to its optimal state. She wouldn’t experience any discomfort.
“Let do it, you can go back to your tasks. When it’s ready, I will bring it to her,” Fang Xiu offered, passing him a note. She recalled how they both had their own families and thought it wasn’t appropriate for them to have too much contact, even if Chu Molin was a nice person. If she did the task, it would avoid unnecessarily lengthy interactions between them.
“Alright, thank you for your help,” Chu Molin agreed, thanked Fang Xiu after reading the note, and then departed. He went out for a run and to see if any dates were available to buy for his wife.
Only after Chu Molin had left was Fang Xiu able to slowly sit down on the stool by the stove to make ginger tea. Her thoughts, however, were preoccupied with sothing else: For all his aloofness, Chu Molin had shown surprising attentiveness, but Jing Xin hadn’t called her in a very long ti. She didn’t know if he had lost contact on a mission or was tied up with sothing else. Either way, she hadn’t heard a single word from him since after the New Year.
As of now, Jing Xin was being hassled by Jing Yuan. Jing Xin was annoyed by the woman in front of him, having told her nurous tis not to seek him out anymore.

“Whether you want him or not is not my concern, go find the child’s father,” Jing Xin retorted. He was no longer the accommodating Jing Xin of the past. He knew he had to be more resolute; otherwise, he might never be able to have a family, especially now that his wife had just forgiven him and was about to give birth. If he couldn’t sort out his priorities, not just Fang Xiu, even he would not forgive himself.
“Big brother, this child is second brother’s,” Jing Yuan pleaded, shocked by how cold-hearted Jing Xin had beco, even ignoring her. She really couldn’t keep the child. Having a child out of wedlock was wrong in itself, let alone when the child is of her brother’s. Not to ntion others, she wouldn’t even be able to face her parents.
