“Alright, Miss Xue Ling, thank you for your trouble.” Upon hearing her young mistress’s words, the Nanny directly approached Xue Ling, extending her hand to let the creature take her pulse.
“Alright, Nanny, how long have you had insomnia?” Xue Ling glanced at the nanny, then took her wrist to check her pulse.
“My insomnia has been going on for quite a while, almost a year maybe. I just never paid it much attention.” The nanny didn’t know if it was because of her age – almost forty – that she kept dreaming of the deceased Holy Servant.
“When did you first start experiencing a lack of appetite, a lot of dreams at night, and a fast heartbeat?” Xue Ling was surprised to find the nanny had quite a few health problems. She looked healthy enough, but upon checking her, she was quite taken aback.
“Those symptoms showed up around half a year ago. I’m getting older now and my body is starting to go downhill. Miss Xue Ling, does it look bad?” The nanny had lived here alone for years and had accepted the fact that her death could co anyti.
But she was worried about Qing Teng. The child had been sent away to live outside of the village at a young age, and now that she was back, the nanny wanted to spend more ti with her. She didn’t want to die before seeing her mistress get married and have children. She didn’t know how she would explain that to Qing Teng’s mother in the afterlife.
“It’s not too bad, you’ll be fine once you’ve taken so dicine to balance out your system. There’s nothing major to worry about.” Xue Ling withdrew her hand, slowly explaining. The nanny might think she didn’t have much ti left, due to the village rumors about not living past forty, and being close to that age herself, she probably had a lot on her mind. As long as she kept a positive attitude, thought happy thoughts, and took her dicine, she should be able to recover.
“That’s good. Before I saw the young mistress, I didn’t care much about my own wellbeing. But now that I see her growing up so well, I’d like to spend as much ti with her as possible. I want to see her get married and have children. I’m not sure if I’ll be fortunate enough to see that though. But at least when I et the Holy Servant in the afterlife, I can tell her that the little mistress is doing well and she doesn’t have to worry.” The nanny gazed skyward, saying these words which were sweet and sad at once.
“Of course, Nanny. You must think of happy things. If you feel good, your body will feel good too. Our young mistress is waiting for you to help her raise her children. Don’t worry. As long as you do as I say, I guarantee you will live a long and healthy life.” Xue Ling had used her divine senses to examine the nanny’s body and, aside from the conditions she’d already diagnosed, there seed to be no other issues.
So, Xue Ling felt the main issue was that the people here had been convinced by their own fears and superstitions, therefore they scared themselves to death.
“Really?” The nanny didn’t expect Xue Ling to say that. If that was true, it would be wonderful. She didn’t ask for a long life, she just wanted to live long enough to see Qing Teng get married and have children.
