Mr. Xu didn’t enter the village because he had work duties he couldn’t delay. If his daughter hadn’t said how great the Qins were, he wouldn’t have specifically gone out of his way to drop them off.
“Dad, are you really not going?” Xu Shaoqin actually hoped her father would visit the Qins with them. She wished he could spend as much ti with family as Mr. Qin did.
But seeing her father’s reaction, Xu Shaoqin knew it was impossible. Still, she couldn’t help but ask.
“Shaoqin, I have to rush back for a eting. I really can’t delay. When you visit, don’t trouble them too much, got it?” Mr. Xu assud it was the Qins who had invited the girls over, so he didn’t think too much about it.
“Alright, then please be careful on your way back.” Xu Shaoqin understood her father was busy, but there wasn’t much else she could say.
“Okay, got it.” Mr. Xu nodded and left. He had co in an official work car and had business nearby, so he dropped the girls off as a convenient detour. Now that they’d arrived, he had to go handle his own matters.
“Let’s go.” Seeing everyone’s eyes on her, Xu Shaoqin felt a bit awkward. She didn’t know what else to say, so she suggested heading to Qin Jiale’s house now. Their visit was rather abrupt.
They hadn’t inford Qin Jiale beforehand that they’d be coming; instead, they’d planned to surprise her. In essence, this was a sudden visit. Hopefully, Qin Jiale wouldn’t be too startled.
“Alright.” No one objected. They carried the gifts their parents had packed for them—a decent amount, mostly food like rice and flour.
They understood their parents’ intentions: they didn’t want their numbers to burden the host’s household. So, they complied and brought along everything their families had prepared. Only Ye Zishu hadn’t brought anything, but luckily, she’d brought money. Otherwise, it would’ve been truly embarrassing.
“Seriously, why didn’t you tell beforehand that you were bringing things? Look at , showing up with just two bunches of bananas—how embarrassing is that?” Ye Zishu said, repeating sothing she’d heard Qin Jiale ntion before and had taken to heart.
“We’re all going together, so it’s from all of us, collectively. Why make things too calculated?” Guan Xiaojun thought it was best to avoid getting too caught up in money matters among close friends; it would spoil the camaraderie.
“Fine, but next ti don’t exclude like this. It makes feel like an outsider, and it’s a terrible feeling.” Ye Zishu hadn’t prepared anything because her mother hadn’t approved her visit initially, leaving her no chance to organize gifts.
Once Ye Li got his mother’s agreent, he headed out. Who knew that everyone else’s family would be so supportive of the trip? That made her the odd one out.
As they were chatting about forgetting this and that, Cai Wenzhao suddenly rembered sothing. It was nearly a huge embarrassnt that could’ve happened at the host’s ho. Fortunately, he realized it now—otherwise, it would’ve been utterly mortifying.
